I had an uncle who passed away from cancer. He said that he didn't want a funeral, he wanted a celebration of life after he passed, so we did that, a sort of part to try and help cheer us up with happy memories of my uncle. There were tears but there were laughs and it feels good to find at least one connection with my uncle that reminds me that he's still here with us.

Unfortunately my Mother passed away last year and believe me my husband NEVER said anything so STUPID! People say it takes time to grieve but that amount of time is different for everyone. My Mother was living with us when she passed so one of the things I’ve had to do is go through her room. Mom passed last year on February 1st and I wasn’t able to even go in to her room for almost a whole year let alone go through her stuff. I finally started cleaning up her room the second week of January this year and that was only because we were going to have someone move in with us(that fell thru though). I still have a tendency to call it her room instead of the spare or guest room. At least my husband was(and is) very patience with me about dealing with my mother’s things/room. I feel if he had been anything like OP’s husband then I would have been planning 2 funerals instead of one.

Gotta love these accelerated processing of paperwork for Divorce, Marriage, selling houses, inheritance. 😆 As far as the inheritance, most states if the value is over $50,000 then it will go through probate which can take months or years. Meanwhile there will be inheritance taxes for Federal and State plus the lawyers will take their cut. As for the house, not everyone wants to live in a house they've inherited.
