Your videos always seems to have a timeless benefit, I think because you spell out the thought or conceptual basis, so one can not only SEE what knobs are turned but WHY they are chosen and HOW they do what they do. Thanks.

@SimonUbsdell9 жыл бұрын
+Andy's Fishing That's really a different sort of technique where you simply need to rotoscope out the foreground, and possibly recreate sections of the background if you are wanting to do any sort of pronounced camera move. I'll see if I can dig out out some pointers on how to do that. (Great video, BTW!)
@Andysfishing9 жыл бұрын
Simon Ubsdell thank you Simon. I'm pretty sure you are talking about a similar technique to the 2.5D effect, is that right? If so I know what you mean. @imageblogger21428 жыл бұрын
Amazing. You gifted so much. I wanted badly to learn how this effect was done. Q : can you stop halfway down the alley, turn +/- 90degs, and play with the what's in front of you, the wall; where you could place a pic so as to make it a grungy gallery walk thru? Then... adventure into the image on the wall and explore what's in background space of that image? What an adventure. Really like to know if this scenario is possible. I think it must be after viewing your very technical video. Love to know. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Hugs, Mal
@SimonUbsdell8 жыл бұрын
Glad you like this technique. Make sure you check out the other two tutorials in this series which take this on quite a lot further. As to your question, you need to remember that your photo won't have very much resolution at all if you start to look at it from the side, so you'll be fairly limited in what you can use. But if you were to shoot a side angle view of your scene, then you would have a lot more flexibility. Another idea would be to add a completely new image, like a poster, that you could align to the side wall and get the resolution that way. Hope that helps a bit. It's kind of tricky to explain ...
@imageblogger21428 жыл бұрын
Simon Ubsdell of course. I am watching them now. Thank you so much. This knowledge is unreal. So in other words, create a new animation to go to when you turn 90deg and look at the wall image? I think that would work. I'll share a youtube vid link later. What I'm trying to achieve. Mal
@SimonUbsdell8 жыл бұрын
Np, you don't need a new animation. Just place your new image in the right position in 3D space and it should work fine.

@max_pin9 жыл бұрын
Another great tutorial. I've tried camera projection in AE and find it a confusing process for some reason. This makes more sense to me. I was wondering though about the floor. You didn't seem to mask out the walls from the floor layer, and it didn't seem to be behind the walls, so I would have expected to have seen some odd distortion of that area when moving the camera. But it looked fine. Does it just not matter or did I miss a step?
@SimonUbsdell9 жыл бұрын
+Design Your Own Card Good question about the floor. The answer is that the excess image at the sides of the floor is being masked by the walls, just as the excess at the bottom of the walls is being masked by the floor - since these together form a genuine 3D shape in 3D space. You'll notice that when I track back too far with the camera, you can see all those excess areas. One could mask them off, but there's no need. I hope that makes sense - you'll see more clearly if you build it and have a look around the scene.
@max_pin9 жыл бұрын
+Simon Ubsdell Oh, right. The geometry itself is doing the masking. Makes perfect sense; thanks.
@SimonUbsdell9 жыл бұрын
+Design Your Own Card Yes, that's a better way of putting it. Anyway, no need to go to the extra trouble of masking by hand, which is a bonus.
@GavinMcAuley9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your tutorial Simon. Another question? IS motion as good as After Effects?
@SimonUbsdell9 жыл бұрын
+Gavin McAuley Good question! The answer really depends on the type of project you are working on. For many purposes, Motion is as good as After Effects and has the benefit of being a lot quicker because it can harness the GPU in ways that Ae still can't manage. The fact remains that After Effects is a lot more powerful in terms of its overall toolset and extensibility, as well as its enormous support ecosystem, so from that point of view there is no contest.
@GavinMcAuley9 жыл бұрын
+Gavin McAuley Many thanks Simon. I am not an expert. So I think learning motion will be enough for now. Thanks again.

@SimonUbsdell8 жыл бұрын
Were you trying this with the method from Tutorial Part Two or the much less reliable method in Part One?
@slapdashrapper8 жыл бұрын
Part two. I have tried your method with another image with perfect success (thanks by the way), but every time I tried it with this one image it would break.
@SimonUbsdell8 жыл бұрын
Hmmm - there is not reason it wouldn't work with that image. In fact the method is foolproof for corridors like this. The only issue would be the protruding pillars which are both wall and ceiling and would require a bit of extra finessing. If I have time, I'll build the project with this image for you. In the meantime, maybe have a look at Part Three of the tutorial, which should hep you understand how the principle works for literally any 3D object with straight sides, as well as showing how to accommodate extruded elements such as your pillars in this example.

@@SimonUbsdell thank you but again is difficult to me to understand what decisions I have to make to convert such a complicated image @t from 2D to 3D and add cameras lights and probably 3D objects. I do not know if there is something that I can read maybe to start understand the basics for these transformations..? Thanks again and happy new year!
