Most places I've worked have the policy that three consecutive NCNS = voluntary resignation due to job abandonment. Also, multiple non-consecutive NCNS will initiate disciplinary procedures starting with a verbal warning, then a write-up, then dismissal for cause. Even consistent lateness will get you started into the disciplinary procedures (I will admit being in a situation where just punching in five minutes late one more time would have resulted in my firing; I preempted that by a timely job change). The boss in this story is far too generous for the company's good.

I agree to a point. There is no "all" to any group of people. Unfortunately, Travis generation seems to have an increasing number that act like him in the work place. The good news is those of the same generation who do put in the work are seen as stars in comparison. One of those "6 of one, 1/2 a dozen of another" type things. Then again, every generation is seen as something to the previous one. That's just life. But now days, when people seem to put everything out there for anyone see, it can come back to bite them quickly.

The only way he's not being fired is that he has to be related to someone higher up. Or not. He's incredibly stupid and arrogant. But, she can make him an hourly employee, and set tasks he has to accomplish on a schedule. Or give him the equivalent of piece work with the pay to go with it. Right now what he's doing is theft of time. No company tolerates that. WOW! He just added extortion to his record.

The youth of our times. That’s the other thing, kids who have a college/university degree are not worth the money they paid, for nothing. The pronouns, the special needs they believe they are entitled to. No way would I hire anyone who went to college/university. Only specialized education and then I would really need to vet them inside out.

These stories are creative fun, but they sometimes have holes in them. Yes, Travis would have fired a lot earlier, possibly from the first conversation. I worked at a state university before I retired. The rules weren't quite as strict about time off, but we had three personal days/year when we could "call in" and just not show up, altho we were strongly discouraged from doing so when the office was busy. We also could call in sick, but, of course, you were supposed to be REALLY sick. Most private companies boot you out after two or three unexcused absences in one year. Oh, and defamation of character, at least in the U.S., is a civil offense. You don't get arrested and go to jail for it. Still, I'm addicted to these stories!
