“It should have been you” is when the mother lost any shred of sympathy I might have had for her. Blaming a child for the death of a parent when they had nothing at all to do with it is just monstrous. It’s like those husbands who blame their child for the mother dying in childbirth.

Love the ending for him but I wish they’d say what happened to that poor excuse of a mother after that.

His mother had the nerve to call her son when he became a ceo, put him out the house, didn’t really want to visit him when he was exhausted from trying to support himself, then wanted money from him, I wouldn’t give one penny

He really made his life such a success, without her. Many go down a negative path without a support system. I am sorry to those who don’t have an emotional and financial support system as kids. My hope is that even lacking that, that people know they can still achieve great things and be good people. Even in the darkest of times people can be good people with positive karma 😊

Ugh. Theres so many scholarships and grants for people who are low income and want to go to college. Not to mention student loans. And of course he would have thought that far ahead. I just cant.

This nasty mother reminds me of my best friend's mom. At midnight when she turned 18 she moved out of her house and came to stay with my family. Her crazy mom tried to call the police to say she ran away, and my parents were harboring a runaway. When they told her there was nothing she could do because her daughter was 18. Her crazy mother tried to say, "She wasn't born until 10:23 pm, so she isn't 18 yet. The police pretty much laughed at her, then sent her on her way. My best friend stayed with me and my family until she finished college. She passed away at 50 from COVID-19, and she had never spoken to her mom since she left at 18. She had always made it very clear to her husband, kids, and me that if she passed away before her mother, her mother was not to be informed if she died until after the funeral. We did just that. When I called her mom to inform her, she was just as crazy as ever, and when she started to speak ill of her daughter who just passed away, I lost on her. She had the nerve to reach out to my friend's husband, but not to give condolences to her son-in-law or grandkids, no. The crazy B reached out to see what my friend left to her in her will. The amount of cussing when she found out she got nothing was insane. That's the last any of us heard from or about her.

My daughter's best friend is now my third child. She finished senior year from our house, took a gap year, and is now applying to art colleges. I'm super proud of her, and she's been a wonderful addition to our family. For her own sake, I wish her birth family had treated her better; but for ours, I can't help but be happy that she's now part of our family instead. ❤

Poor kid he has no emotional support from his mom at all. She is really rude to him treating him almost like a stranger. Sounds like she’s all bitter blaming him for his dad’s passing. That is horrible to put all that blame on a little kid for an accident. (When my mom was little she ran after a ball and got hit by a car. She ended up with a massive scar on her upper leg and lucky she made it.) It is so important to get proper sleep and college is a wonderful experience and so good to focus on studies and sports. She could at least cover his expenses of food and fun. Wth oh my gosh his friend is truly a best friend. I would help him if I was the friends parents too, and I wouldn’t make him pay me back. I’d gift him happily. His mom is the devil. So glad his friend stood up to her. Maybe he could make up the finals due to emergency? 😢 let’s see how this goes…

Martin's family should have offered Brandon a place to stay with them, instead of offering him money. That way, he could get away from his mother and make his own decisions about what to do with his time.

Why is he asking her to stop working? What was the point of making that a thing if he didn't have the funds to pay for college? Was his mom supposed to come up with the money she told him she didn't have?
