...Making a spare house key without the owner's permission is theft and premeditated trespassing. If she called a locksmith, they should have checked the MIL's identification to confirm that she lived there before changing the locks. If she changed the doorknobs herself, that's just further premeditated intent to steal and commit trespass.

One of my friends back in college was fired because the business owner's wife convinced him, a mere employee, that she had the right to give hiim orders about the company's business...and her order FUBAR'd things so badly, they fired him...but they did acknowledge it was HER fault, so they gave him an actual severance package. And then they sanctioned her and banned her from even so much as entering the premises ever again. I don't know if the owner divorced his wife or not, but I did hear about her being banned.

Caroline is another 10-50X. When finding that the front door lock were changed, she did not try to enter by another door. If not able to enter, then call for a locksmith. Instead she stood at her front door and argued with her MIL. It was not whether the MIL was a stockholder. That would give a say about how the company was run.
