Sylvie reminds me of my Sister-in-Law. She acts like she's the first person in history to have ever had a child, and it's this unique new thing that no one has ever done before. So naturally, no one knws how to take care of chilren but her. Even highly experienced mothers or those has taken care of children most of their life and knows a great deal more the her, knows nothing. Only her cuz she's the first. Naturally, everytime she does something, let's just say out of the ordinary, that no mothers would do cuz it can be hurt the child, she gets butthurt when people dare insiuate she is doing things wrong, since they don't know how to take care of children, cuz she just invented the concept.

Traditionally in the past a woman goes home to her mother to have her first baby. I've done a lot of family history and this practice is evident in the records. It makes sense if you consider you mum is an experienced mother maybe having had 8 or so pregnancies so knows what to expect and can provide good support and is someone you can trust at this difficult time.

Story 1. NTA. Sounds like sil is too lazy to check the expiration dates. Post never said Mil cooking was bad. Just that she uses expired or moldy food. So all sil needs to do is figure out what time she's usually in the kitchen & set the alarm on her phone to go off every day, then open the refrigerator door & look. That would take what, a minute? Add another minute to glance at any bread, buns, muffins, etc. It said the family always checked the expiration dates when they still lived @ home. It shouldn't take long for her to pick up the habit again. Sil plans to dump all the responsibilities for caring for the baby on you. I wouldn't be surprised if she handed you the baby, walked out the door, & never came back. The only help you should give is hiring a private investigator to find the dad so she can get child support. Good luck
