When I got married the second time, I wasn’t sure if I should have my baby sister or my daughter as my made of honor. Then made the mistake of mentioning it to my mother, who was supposed to be helping me plan the wedding. I don't know why, but I love the way the mother says "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!!!" at 23:11. It's like she knows what the reality of the situation is, but doesn't want to admit it. Her vanity will not allow her to admit the truth, not to others, and especially not to herself. So she desperately tries to deny what is happening, even as her deluded fantasy is crumbling down around her. I also find it incredibly funny that the sister is working at the food court to pay for her next wedding (which will probably never happen). It's an inglorious end for the sister, whose vanity is matched only by her mother's. But that is what happens, and what should happen, to narcissists. The mother is right about one thing, though: the world is cruel, but it is kindness that will eventually win and make the world a better place, not further cruelty. Those who rely on cruelty to get ahead in life will eventually find themselves alone, abandoned, and wallowing in a pit of despair of their own making.

I'm surprised. If this was real life text messages, then Emma's comments made her sound like she was having a mini - meltdown. In some instances, some people would commit suicide when faced with the same realization that Emma faced that she actually had no friends or social life whatsoever. It's sad actually. Had OP's parents taught Emma some basic human decency, then her marriage ceremony would have been just as wonderful as she imagined it to be - with the possibility that she would be marrying someone other than Beckett. I always wonder about people in these things absolutely insisting that someone is ugly. I'd say that they are likely just the opposite. After all if someone is really ugly they wouldn't need to say it constantly to make sure it sticks. That kinda makes her family even more pathetic - as if they know perfectly well that their golden child is actually waayyy less than golden, and they want to make sure that everyone else actually buys it. What's even sadder is that often others do - even if the "ugly" child is actually gorgeous.

I saw a similar situation happen in reality (and if you believe these soap operas are true, I have a bridge to sell you) where the bride, who wanted her Barbie Dream Wedding, got the money from her grandmother who had some form of senile dementia. She told her family the groom's family was paying, and she told the groom's family her family was footing the bill. Long story short, everything came out two days before the wedding day. I was a friend of the groom, and he told us to show up. The church was a ghost town, half the relatives had canceled. Some random cousin had to walk her down the aisle. This is where the groom told the priest to take the day off, told his would-be bride that while she was there, some of his friends were moving all her stuff into a storage unit, and he never wanted to see her face again. Groom then stormed down the aisle calling to us "Hey chicos, vamos a emborracharnos." (Guys, let's get drunk) Tragic ending. Facing literally everyone in her life hating her, and a police investigation into how she got and used the money, she killed herself.

@@taylorslade8080 Yup, too much lying and working hard to hide the lies. When he found out, he was livid and decided to play her the way she played everyone else. She lied to a Catholic bishop (big Latino family, they had been part of the diocese for a long time) which was the final straw. We did get roaring drunk. About six weeks later she walked in front of a freight train. She couldn't even get a church burial (suicide and she never confessed her sins over everything.) I'm just saying, these little text telenovelas are fun, but the scenarios they paint cause real devastation and tragedy. I'm still addicted to them.

I still don't understand how parents can hate their child and be petty like this. Once they move out, why keep contacting them? Ever since I was young, I would always hear people say why did the kids abandon their parents at the nursing home and don't visit them. These same people should know parents like this exist. Normally, I would say the "victim" shouldn't tell the abusers about their life, but in this case, I'll let it slide because Ava didn't rub their noses in it. She wasn't trying to one up her family. Ava should have blocked their numbers. Beckett should have filed charges against Emma. This conversation with Emma should have ended a long time ago. Emma needs therapy. The parents just ruined Emma by spoiling her.
