My Aunt and Uncle were really good people. They had two sons. One turned out to be a good person like his parents. The other was a total waste if oxygen. He wouldn't keep a job but expected his poor wife to work herself to the bone. She finally had enough and kicked his sorry butt out since she was paying for all the bills and living expenses. He then expected his Mom and Dad to take him in and support him. They let him move in with the understanding he would get a job by the end of the month. Of course, he didn't even try. They booted him out as well. Sometimes good people end up with rotten kids through no fault of their own. His brother, raised by the same parents, turned out just fine.

If someone invites you on holiday, you obviously need to tame your own spending money and everything even if the other party is paying for transport and hotel costs, right? But with the meal thing it's probably best to check if their intention is to pay for you. That's just my thoughts on the matter, though I've only had a hotel paid for for me once since becoming an adult and I felt so awkward about it... so I don't understand how people can be such financial leeches.

My understanding of this BBQ is like 4 couples decide to meet up at a restaurant, but a 5th couple hears about it. 5th couple shows up, and chows down big time with appetizers, surf&turf, and multiple high-price cocktails. Then the 5th couple slips off to the bathroom(yeah, right) just before the waitperson brings the bill, leaving the original 4 couples stuck paying for what the moochers ate.

It's weird for people to expect guests to pay when invited to a party where I live. But it's common to have potluck and ask guests to BYOB. Most guests will bring something. Sometimes a guest may decide to contribute financially instead but it's not expected.

Got a cousin like that - She invited me out for lunch at a buffet and ate like a pig !!!! 7 trip's up and still hadn't had dessertiit yet... My aunt phoned and started the same crap and I told her it's not my responsibility to pay for my cousin's meal!! Aunt - says ( what the hell are you talking about - you invited her out to lunch and said that you would pay!!! ) No she asked me to go with her when I was at moms house and I said sure.. l never said that I would pay for her meal.. and I won't be going back to pay over $125.00 dollars for her and if I get any more demands to pay - l will let the whole family know what's going on.. you okay with that.??? My aunt said she would leave me alone and they would figure out how to pay on their own.. cousin ended up having to borel money and told the relatives that I had done this to her and I was just a shitty person.. l was true to my word and told the relatives the truth and I provided proof that I had never said l would pay... As for cousin she was tossed out of the family for about 6-7 months and she still tells me that she hates my guts... No skin of my butt.. just peace and quiet and no drama... everything is fine and I like the no contact...
