Apple Speeds up China Exit, Foxconn Follows, Massive Layoffs, Local Businesses Deserted

Recently, aerial footage taken by a netizen in Guangxi showcased the vast expanse of the Foxconn industrial park in Nanning, which is now eerily deserted.
A local man remarked, “The Foxconn plant in Nanning once required massive daily resources, including 60 tons of rice, 280 pigs, 1.2 million eggs, and 80,000 chickens to cater to its workforce. Its dining hall could accommodate 12,000 workers at a time, and the facility employed 50,000 people. Amidst criticism, this industrial behemoth has now shifted its operations to Vietnam, marking a broader trend affecting Foxconn facilities across the country. This move serves as a reminder that even the most substantial operations are subject to change.”

In retrospect, were they really taking American jobs? I doubt that if save for China, manufacturers like Foxcom would have been been in America these past 15 years. They likely would have been in another country with cheap labor. Those "lost jobs" were never going to be in America.

Actually not. Check Apple's History online!!! Apple started slightly pre 1980/Steve Jobs in the US with most of it parts made in the US making PCs. Then it also went over to Ireland and opened a large plant there. It got it's circuit boards from Singapore when they opened manufacturing there in 1981. And Not China back then as it was still in the "Dark Ages" there. The main manufacturing plants of doing the computers as cell phones didn't even come around till 2007/ their first I phone/phone. Apple was 100% computers, computer items like mouses, ect until 2007. People too young don't know their history and older people forget Apple was just a computer/Personal PC manufacture, not phones until 2007. Ireland was the other main country Apple worked with, not China until 2001, and again that was only for computers and not phones yet. Apple still had Ireland manufacturing for them even after 2001 while Apple still manufactured in the US as well for some years. Before I phone's wild popularity as I remember it as I'm 59, Apple was losing it's PC computer appeal as HP/Windows/also Dell/etc was becoming way more popular for selling PCs. Apple got close to closing down their computer manufacturing until they came out with their first I phone. So your comment is wrong

Thanks for this insightful great journalistic report. Your channel is outstanding in your non biased, fair assessment of newsworthy economic stories. It is concerning how a great power like China could be a world respected nation if it would focus on fair business collaboration, respect for patents and intellectual property, to ensure all people have a balanced work/lifestyle and prosperity. There is a slow trend in America of consumers boycotting products made in China when possible. I say when possible as so much today is produced in China.I don't see foreign peoples from around the world risking their lives to live in China as they do in America, even though America is full of poverty by 50% of the population now, earning less than $20K because the federal government won't increase the minimum wage for decades. But the freedoms allowed in America seem worth the gamble to live a successful life. China could change this by adopting some of the values of the democratic nations to improve their own society rather than align with countries like Russia and Iran who deprive their citizens of freedoms and true happiness. With restrictions on Apple, it is only natural for Apple to leave a place where it is no longer welcome. Many US companies have been recently targeted in China by government investigators for dubious and questionable reasons that invade the freedom to be innovative.

good idea to think two steps ahead and also tagerting indonesian "talent" because whats really happening here is trying to find the people who value their time the least to keep salaries as low as possible. as china becomes more advanced people start to value their time more and workers become more expensive but in indonesia most peopld dont value their time at all and when i heard apple going to vietnam i said to myself "why not directly to to indonesia where people value their time even less??" and then afterawrds i heard about the plans with indonesia. yea thats how business works, find the cheapest way of making a product and that also include finding the cheapest workers

United States of America had similar issues, but resolved it by using competition and more innovation. It was a hard conversion but with addition to policies to remove corruption it allowed a flexible and adaptive markets to develop address the people's needs which large and slow companies and governments could not. Having large monopolies exist allowed to much disruption and corruption to occur. If a large company suddenly left, it caused the same problem, but by having more smaller businesses the chances of all failing at once was reduced and the loss of the smaller businesses would be a warning before the big ones failed.

I doubt if it's a smart idea unless Apple expects a massive decline in sales, as no other country in the world has a more complete production/manufacturing line (from raw material to assembly) as China. Apple's revenue over cost has been high (20-25%) compared to chinese products (under 10%), Apple's prices will have to come down to stay competitive as chinese products get better.
