Jon Stewart digs into the trial of comically corrupt Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, and in a new segment called "How Dumb Is You?" asks the senator how he got caught engaging in such obvious illegal corruption, while government officials like Nancy Pelosi, Richard Burr, and Roy Blunt have been getting away with legal corruption for years. #DailyShow #JonStewart #corruption

And how cheap actors are, that they will spread "both sides" propaganda. I don't think Jon and the others at TDS even realize yet what they're doing, and for whom. But this propaganda started back in the early 70's as a result of the wealthy elite seeing people finding great strength in solidarity, so they created the _"two sides of the same coin" propaganda, and that's how we got reagan.

Exactly, I can't think of any issue more important. "Follow the money" as they say. As a society, I wish we would start discussing this heavily, starting in school, looking at cases in both local and national politics and debating what exactly corruption is. The better we can define it and identify it, the better we can hold politicians accountable. And, to raise self-awareness too, to make just a bit louder in peoples' heads the voice telling them they should be uneasy on that luxury skiing trip. People will still try to be corrupt of course, a la Sen Menendez, but we need to stop what we can and when we can. It's just amazing that most people are tolerant of corruption. There's no will to do anything about it, though it would help fix so many problems that people do care about.

@@Quittin OK you kinda hit my specialist subject here - my sister was an agricultural advisor to the EU, she wrote the pig and poultry legislation. The agriculture is NOT subsidised in the EU - YOUR WAGES are subsidised...!!! The cheapest way to pay you less is to subsidise the farmer. €1 to the farmer saves you €8 in the shop which means your employer can pay you €8 less. This worked for decades until the international commodification of foods, where the farmer sells to a merchant who trades the food on the international market. So now we have a system where the farmers bearly make a living even with subsidies, the price of food is high and hedge funds are making all the profit trading commodity futures on the open market. Am3ric4 has the same issue - its another of the horrific unintended consequences of neoliberalism.
