Strip clubs in rural areas make idiotic amounts of money. My grandpa owned a club and traveled for work. He would poach girls from cities and offer them housing and a car, on 6 month or 12 month contracts. Those girls made hundreds every night in the 80s and 90s! I lived in one apartment under the club with my family and the girls lived in the other. They were my babysitters. I lived there for the first 12 years of my life.

My grandpa sold the club at the end of the 90s. His girls were like family. They came to family events, they were welcome to birthdays, christenings, Easter dinners, summer cookouts, whatever. Most of them stayed on til they had a tidy nest egg before going wherever home was. Drugs were a huge no go, so we didn't have girls going off the rails doing rails. They were really nice, and I loved hanging out with them as a kid. My primary babysitter was a 6' tall black woman everyone called Babydoll. She was from Mobile Alabama and had a voice like a chipmunk. If I was missing, I likely toddled over to the other apartment and was with the girls. I didn't know it was a wierd way to grow up til I was in high school. Oh you guys didn't have stripper babysitters? That sucks.

You do realize that people have dropped literally tens of MILLIONS on dresses, don't you? And there are sneakers that sell for 75k too. Does it sound ridiculous? Yeah, sure. But is it also entirely plausible and in fact, far from the most ridiculous prices for these things? Yup. In reality, the prices i see in a lot of these stories are certainly on the high end, but in no way outside of the realm of what such things can actually cost.

The ones who makes sure the shots sent their way are swapped for water or soda, the ones who won't touch a client outside of the club, the ones who don't drink or take a bump between dances. Then there are the gals who view it like a 9-5. Go in, work, have a bit of fun, end shift, head home and live their lives like anyone else. No real savings or perks, but the bills are paid. Maybe.... 1/2 the girls fit in there. The last bit? HARD AND FAST do they burn. It's too easy to get into the party scene, it's too easy to take the drinks/drugs. Those lap dances start getting easier and easier to lean towards less dancing more private work. I worked as a bouncer (they wanted at least one girl on hand to calm clients and keep the girls from having to deal with clients with bigger expectations than what was on offer) for a short time and it's just too easy for them to fall down a hole that's a hell of a lot to dig out of. Bank? A few. But I know girls who went home with maybe $30 for a full shift. If that. And if you get stuck on weekdays early shifts? You pissed the owner off and aren't paying your rent that month.

And given how vengeful the protagonists get to be in these stories, there's no reason Nina is going to give her an EASIER job, so it isn't difficult to read this as Mindy basically being forced to pay her debt by going into prostitution, with Nina taking the money that her direct employer doesn't keep. I don't think it's a controversial opinion to say that selling someone into prostitution is worse than infidelity.
