Seeing humanity achieve the impossible, whether or not it is in a fictional universe or in real life, always gives me the chills.

I listen to this and I think of all of the things those brave souls venturing into space have achieved! Gagarin, Shepard, Leonov, Glenn, Armstrong, Lovell, Young, Sally Ride…they are all our heroes and the world is better because of their bravery.

Some details in this intro are impressive yet rally hidden, like the 2 tails on the moon: the one that go straight is ours and seems to run out offer the moon (like the real space rece did), the second one that go right otherwise increase after the moon, accelerating, representing the series and their one space race

This show is so good. In my mind, I tie it to Star Trek. This is the beginning, these are the first steps we take toward that future world.

But that's also kind of ironic, because the 20th/21st centuries in official Star Trek canon were horrible. In the 1990s, they had wars being fought between biologically engineered superhumans, and in the 2020s WW3 broke out and lasted almost 30 years which resulted in the annihilation of every major city. The 8th Star Trek movie (First Contact) where they go back to 2063 shows what remnants of human civilization they have - small scale settlements, not much technology. But similar to this show, space is what unites humanity and drives it forward because meeting the Vulcans is what pushes humans to rebuild, eliminate poverty/hunger/disease and become the founding member of the Federation.

0:30 The point of divergence. The straight line going away from the moon is our history. That bright curved line orbiting close to the moon is this show’s history.

This is an interesting comment: Infinite-Dare-2112 · 1 yr. ago The music itself needs analysis since it summarizes humanity's future as a space-faring species from an emotional perspective, lending great power to the more technical visual imaginary. The musical climax is reached when the silhouette of a female face pointing, Janus-like, in opposite directions appears. As that figure is iterated, the background shifts from stars to galaxies, suggesting a transition in the very far future from galactic to intergalactic exploration. The refence to the Roman deity Janus signifies that space exploration is a new beginning for humanity, and that great transitions will ensue. (See Wikipedia’s entry for Janus). The head and torso of a woman in silhouette, seen from either the back or front, appears earlier in the visuals. The repeated use of a woman's figure suggests to me the last line of poetry from Goethe's Faust (Book 2): "The eternal feminine / Draws us ever on high." And much could be made of what that implies.

this was by far the best thing about the entire TV show. Everything else was bordering on pantomime especially the idea that the USSR could have landed Leonov or anyone else on the moon before the US - it was clear by the mid 60s that they weren't going to be able to do that without transistors. And the N1 was just so far ahead of its time in terms of engineering requirements, as the 30 block A engines simply could not be properly controlled without tech that wouldn't be around until at least the 80s...

It's an alternate history. The point of divergence from real life is that Sergei Korolev doesn't die in 1966, which they never recovered from.

I’d say it’s more “broad in scope” than “soulless”. It conveys the shows title better than anything.
