@@walkerdarin2003 To do that would end up eliminating most of the groundbreaking features. Apple intended this as a proof of concept, not a finished product. You can’t do a proof of concept when you have to eliminate most of your feature set. They didn’t intend for people to buy this. They wanted to find out what was possible with as many features as they could think of, keep what works and improve upon them and get rid of what didn’t. Perhaps in five years or so, maybe longer, we’ll have a good consumer product once the technology exists to do it. It’ll be smaller, lighter, and cheaper and won’t be a proof of concept anymore because the features would have been vetted by the public.

People are looking at this product the wrong way. It is NOT a final product. It is a proof of concept. When you do that, you cannot fully explore a feature set and keep it cheap enough for mass market. A headset is also not the final product, and Apple knows that. That’s why they didn’t bother making it affordable since the cost of materials alone without any profit margin would still be too high for most people to buy. Apple’s goal is to flesh out the feature set on what works and what doesn’t and iterate into a final product over time. For some reason, people are expecting a mass market product this revolutionary right out of the gate. The tech simply isn’t there for that. It might not even be there in five years, but it will be a lot closer to Apple’s end goal of having a product completely replace a Mac, iPhone, and iPad with a single product.
@alex_of_the_Mi_ag_gi
@alex_of_the_Mi_ag_gi Ай бұрын
@@techinrl9869 Agree with your thoughts, however, I don’t think there is a world where apple wants to replace the Mac, ipad and iPhone - compliment yes but I can’t believe Apple have a product plan anywhere that says ‘by year XXXX we will kill the iPhone’ - its their no 1 seller and their vision is probably more along the lines of ‘glass’ ‘foldable’ or ‘hologram’ iPhone. The ‘gap’ they are trying to fill is the TV monitor space which is largely left to the big electronics manufacturers. Imagine the production and logistical costs of creating huge TVs and projectors versus the relative ease of these headsets. I believe it is the likes of Sony, Samsung, LG et al.. that apple are looking to take on with this, hence the ‘Vision’ branding. This proof of concept actually does a great job of replacing the need for TVs, projector screens and monitors - it really works once you are ‘inside’ - but there are just too many flaws in the current model for it to be taken seriously by the general public as yet. I used the Anna pro head strap and removed the light seal from mine and it felt more like a pair of glasses and an overlay for my eyes and that made it more obvious to me that they aren’t far away from making these really usable as general device.

I think you're spot on with that price point. It puts it into realm/purchasing mind-space of a high end TV or Laptop. As it stands it is just far too high a percentage of the average person's annual income to be a decision most would feel comfortable making. Especially knowing how often Apple tries to push consumers into the next hype cycle of purchasing. Sure TV manufacturers are always trying to push new features, but I never feel bad about having purchased a nice tv the following year when hearing about the new hotness. The life-cycle is much more reasonable.

I have one - the cinema experience is the only thing i really use it for - great for movie watching, especially when travelling. It is cool to do other ‘ecosystem’ stuff and using Siri is great with it. The virtual desktop is amazing but it needs to work out the box (eg whenever a powered up Mac is nearby) as it is annoying to have to click ‘connect’ each time… if you go to the toilet and take your headset off you have to set the whole thing up again (close and shut the Mac…wait a few seconds….click connect…resize the screen etc..) so its unusable if you Mac work is just doing quick tasks. Photos and 3d phots are cool. The weight and the fact its not ‘that’ easy to put on and get in (it takes several seconds to position on your face correctly, do the password entry (even the eye scanner takes a few seconds) and wait for the wifi to connect. It needs to be completely seamless, lightweight and more durable for real day to day use.. its too fiddly right now but when you are up and running - its an amazing experience and really useful.. im guessing they will take 3 iterations to get it right..

I say the following as a Samsung fan who LOVES the Apple Vision Pro: The price is NOT the problem. Vision Pro can cost $1,000 and it STILL wouldn't sell like hotcakes. Why? Because most people don't want to wear a HEADSET. If anything, they would prefer to wear actual Smart Glasses in the future. Meta Quest 2 sold like 20 Million units in 2020 due to the pandemic lockdown. Meta Quest 3 is nowhere near that number and yet it's made of plastic which makes it lightweight. Most people don't care about 3D VR content. That's just the disappointing truth. I hope 3D immersive content makes a huge impact on mass consumers in the future. Not holding my breath though...
@eastonbrewer1798
@eastonbrewer1798 Ай бұрын
That’s exactly right, I was thinking of buying a meta quest 3 or 3s because I’ve never had a vr headset before but I really don’t understand the full use case of these devices yet honestly. The games do look cool but I kind of want these devices to be able to do everything my phone does for example and I don’t know if we’re completely there yet. That’s precisely what I had in mind. I’ve never owned a VR headset before, so I was considering buying a Meta Quest 3 or 3S. However, I genuinely don’t fully comprehend the comprehensive capabilities of these devices yet. While the games appear visually appealing, I genuinely desire these devices to replicate the functionality of my phone, and I’m uncertain if we’ve fully achieved that yet.

I love it for 3-D movies and it’s great for general media consumption, but there is enough glare that I find myself preferring a TV for non-3-D content. The lack of controllers also limits its usability in a big way. It’s great to be able to use my hands for things that don’t require a controller, but it’s still clunky and I find myself having to click my fingers together multiple times for it to register. It’s nowhere near the same usability as the Quest headsets with their controllers.

Brian I agree with everything you said. $1500 is absolutely the sweet spot for this to go mass market. To be honest, I think the 4K OLED displays is the most expensive component right now. Everything else is 2+ year old tech. I think that by late 2025 or early 2026, they could release a cheaper version with the same tech we have now. Another thing is that they may be partnering with Sony to use their PSVR controllers. Things are about to get interesting! I want the big dog though. Give me a lighter Pro with higher specs and I’ll gladly pay $3500!

What Apple should have done, is make it accessible to everyone at a reasonable price range. Spend two years fixing the bugs and making the features far more better. 1st gen should have been their testing ground and with enough feedback from consumers from all walks of life, it would have been a better strategy and also getting other software developers to get into the tech. Stupidity is for Apple to think they can get away with the absurdity of price what delivering a half cooked product.

Though, from this perspective of a slow rollout, that would make sense in year two to come out with a standard model at $1499, capture some of the non-dev tech/Apple fans like myself, and then in year three or four aim for that sub-$1k every-man model.

They are already behind Meta when it comes to most relevant user experience for an AR device. Single user experiences cannot cost $3k with a bunch of computing functionality that is still inferior to a desktop computer. Immersion for gaming and media is the golden key. People don’t want an awesome experience that they cannot easily show off and share. Until there is more VR connectivity with other users (Ready Player One for example), the value of the device is none existent beyond the Apple store demo

Most Vision Pros haven't seen much use since they were reviewed by influencers. Most just sit in the closet. Funcutionality and useablity should be at the top of the list. The goofy LED face mask should be ditched for something like digital emoji eyes or something. There's also the issue of service and repair so it's easily fixed. Finally, Apple (and others) need to ditch proprietary model of special connectors and power banks. When the include power bank runs out the replacement bank with attached cord is $200 plus tax. It's why I'm no longer dazzled with Apple dangling pretty shiny things in front of me.

It’s not like your iPhone or iPad that you can just causally pick up and start using it. They need to get its battery life improved and improve standby time. So many times I want to use it and it’s not charged so I end up just getting my iPad instead. I have high hopes for VisionOS 3. If they can make a compelling software experience that makes me want to use it over my other devices then it will be worth it. But right now it’s an expensive movie machine and an amazing display for my MacBook.

As developer the 30% tax hurts. You have a choice of writing an app, one with no extra costs(web app) or one with 30% extra costs(native). For a lot of apps you already have a web app but there are a lot of extra costs to write a native app and then the extra 30%. Web apps suck compared to native ones too. While i am working on a Vision Pro app, I first need to solve the 30% issue. In businesses a gross profit of 30% js the average , adding 30% extra costs would cause most business in the world to fail. Software can be different but I don’t see why users should have to pay 30% more so Apple can make even more huge profits. Apple could do everything they do on the App Store for 5% or less and still make great profits from the App Store. Guess we gotta keep the rich people rich.

Tbh, I wouldn't buy it if it were $300. I personally just have no interest in VR/AR personally and I think it's doomed to be a niche product lane. Apple's failure to showcase it is as an interesting form factor really cemented that thinking for me.

It would be great if they pushed the tech too and made a really high-end updated version. I can’t stomach the price but be amazing to see what they could really do. Happy New Year!

First of all they should release it worldwide to all markets. Keeping it restrained to just USA so far and maybe a couple of other countries this year is just plain dumb. None of the products which were released this way worked - even really good home pod, which flopped. Why? Limited release only in selected markets 🤦‍♂️ stupid!

My AVP stays in the case 99% of the time, I just don't have a reason to love it as much as I wish I did, for the price. It also gives me crazy eye strain so I think they need to pivot to something like augmented reality.

This is clearly a only wish-list video and nothing actually based in any factual information. I will start with the major issue first, That not only Brian but a lot of KZbinrs are saying which is ridiculous and makes no sense at all if you pay attention. Why would Apple be working on a new device when not only they just finished their global release less than 60 days ago (November 15th South Korea and UAE), they are currently working with Sony to get motion controllers to work with AVP (Also possibly port PSVR2 games over) and the device has not even been out for a full year. Secondly, cheaper products like Oculus Quest 2 released 10/13/2020 and the Quest 3 released on 10/10/2023 were 3 years apart. Why would Apple release a new headset after only 1 year. And for the people that will say Covid, I intentionally left off the Quest Pro that was released 10/25/2022 (during covid) Lastly, if you listen to people in the company (Tim Cook). He stated that this device has legs and growth in spaces that does not apply to games and media. Hospitals are using AVP’s to wear while performing surgeries and tons of Fortune 500 companies are implementing the AVP into their companies. I follow Brian Tong KZbin page and have been a supporter of him since he was with CNET but this is just lazy journalism a bad clickbait video.

Thanks for watching and continuing to watch, but did you read the title...how is it clickbait? When it's literally set up as an opinion piece. 'Lazy'...please, look at the breadth of my content before you throw around words like that. If anything, that's a lazy comment.

@@briantong I appreciate the response and don't want to come off angry or disrespectful but you know there is no way Apple will be releasing new hardware in 2025. I would count on AirPower before new Apple Vision Pro 2 or SE or whatever people want to name this fan speculated $1,500 version.

Apple Vision Pro is really impressive and underrated. The improvements in VisionOS 2.1 are fantastic. I look forward to a less expensive and lighter product. EyeSight can probably be ditched in favor of a lighter frame.

I'd like to see a streamlined, lower-cost AVP variant that focuses on the immersive Cinema experience....basically a color rich, sharp 4k monitor for your face with a basic front cam for safe passthrough, limited or no image capture and a 4 hour battery life. Strictly a media consumption device. I have ZERO desire to virtually fish or play ping--pong with a cartoon walrus

Love my APV but Apple can improve the items below: 1. Make it easy to mirror to iPhone via Bluetooth so you can guide a guest on how to use it. Very frustrating trying to guide a guest without seeing what they’re looking at. 2. Make a KZbin or TikTok application for immersive content. More content like The Weekends music video would be insane! 3. Make 3D movies free on Apple+ I refuse to pay extra for individual 3D movies. Increase subscription ok but don’t charge individually 👎

AVP is super clever but niche. It’s not just about the cost although that’s a limiting factor. Even if they were lightweight AR glasses many, people who don’t suffer impaired vision would be reluctant to wear, them throughout the course of their daily life. 3D movies at the cinema decades ago were a novelty, that never became that huge and 3D televisions were a dead end 20 years ago. I think if Apple succeed it will be a long and winding road. Perhaps I haven’t got the ‘vision’ though?
