13.7 million households in the US make over 200k a year. Millions of people can afford of it if they want it. For millions of people the price is not all that premium.
@Sylvesterlayne4 ай бұрын
@@AlessandroPhotoss Just because people can afford that price doesn't make the price premium. Who makes the price premium is what you can buy with the same amount of money. It's not luxury. It's not Hermes bag. But it is a Gucci bag. Which is a premium product. You're paying massive amounts of money for something that you can do with a PC the cost $800 and a meta quest 3 which you can buy for 350 used. Which would give you a ton more use cases for it. And a better experience because you're getting a desktop GPU. They didn't have enough content on it to make it worth the price point. The thing about economics too is a lot of those households that are making $200,000 a year live in areas in the United States where it's extremely expensive to live. So the medium household income in America is $74,000 a year. So when you take 74,000 a year and you say you want to spend $4,000 of that on a headset. That you're going to use for part-time video watching that's a big ask. It's not the phone. People spend thousands of dollars on their phone because they use it a ton. It's more like an iPad. The sweet spot Apple is realized for most iPad users is 3 to $500

You can mitigate it somewhat but it ruins the viewing experience. There's literally no Apple Immersive content. You can watch it all in a single afternoon, the entire catalog. The most difficult thing about Vision Pro is the cost. A Quest 3 can do 95% of what the Vision Pro can do for 1/7 the cost AND the Quest 3 still has a very nice screen AND viable 3rd party accessories. Also, as good as the integration of working off a macbook is, the app "Immersive" is a far better implementation. Obviously the OLED screens are far better but how does that actually affect the experience compared to a Quest 3? oooook. The Airpods Pro are really nice when watching a movie off the Apple Tv using spatial audio and head tracking. I'll give you that. But it's no match to a real speaker system that's setup properly. Just as a large projection screen feels tremendously better than watching a movie in VR.

I’m an architect and have two primary uses for it which has been very successful. First, I obviously use it for 3D client presentations. I have the 3D model from my CAD software converted to USDZ which natively opens in the Vision Pro (and any Apple device) without the need for an app. I don’t even have my clients use guest mode. I stream the VP’s view to my laptop and coach them through it. The second, I have set up a very nice mobile office in my SUV. I move the front seats forward and have a very roomy area to sit in in the back seats. I have a DJI Power 1000 for a TON of power for laptop, VP, etc., and I work under shade trees at the beach or in the mountains (I live in Hawaii so they’re quick to get to). I then open my laptop into 4K mode on the VP virtual monitor and have my text, email, music and browser apps surrounding it… with enough open space to see the beach view beyond. I am IMMENSELY happy with my professional use of it!

Most professionals don't use Macs though and Apple refuses to allow their systems to play nice with non-Apple products so its unlikely to catch on for professional use in most cases. If it wasn't made by Apple or they weren't so strongly against customer choice that could be quite different. For example I was i itially very interested for its virtual screens. I often work with multiple computers simultaneously, and having them appear in 3D space as virtual screens I expect would have been productive. Except I need to also access Windows and Linux machines and of course Apple refuses to allow that use case. So I have zero interest in the product.

The whole immersive experience angle is how they could really sell this even at the current price. Who wouldn't love to be able to travel the world from your home. Plane travel, airport customs, standing in lines, buying bus passes, struggling with language barriers, etc is rarely fun. The plane fares, hotels, tour guides, etc are expensive too. And it isn't easy if you have small children, if you have physical issues, etc. Also some environments have a lot of downsides like the risk of crime, temperatures, diseases/viruses, etc. And what happens if a member of your travel company becomes ill before or during the travel? Then there's the additional costs of taking time off. Plus sometimes I'd like to explore a place in bits and pieces over time, not all crammed into a week or two. When you travel virtually you could experience things real time (telepresence) or you could experience a pre-recorded session. It's hard to time a trip/visit with an event like an animal migration, rocket launch, eclipse/meteor shower, aurora borealis, festival/ceremony, etc. Safaris come down to a lot of lucky timing and you still may not get that close. Imagine being IN a Discovery Earth setting with David Attenborough literally at your side. Much better than being restricted behind the ropes at the Louvre trying to see the Mona Lisa, behind glass, from 10 feet away. You also mention concerts. All of the above hassles and risks are present with concerts. How cool would it be to have a backstage tour, VIP meet and greet, and the perfect seating and sound? Of course there will be benefits to actual travel - especially the culinary aspects. We can still travel, but we can visit first virtually to prioritize where we want to go. If resorts got into the content creation we could tour them to decide which resort met our preferences and even which part of the resort we wanted to stay in. We could figure out ahead of time which attractions, restaurants, neighborhoods we want to visit - making the actual physical visit better. The $3500 cost to be able to explore a large catalog of different places when we want, in nice bite-sized pieces is a bargain. I'd even be happy to pay it twice to have my friend/spouse/family member along to share it with. I'd also consider paying small additional fees for specialized content. This could really enhance the last years of our retirement/life - heck, even if it was to go visit casinos virtually. 😁 Hanging out with remote friends and family is another big win. I often wish I lived closer or could teleport to visit them. If most of my friends/family had a device already because of the above virtual travel/events benefits, then it would be more likely we'd be able to connect virtually... not just at their home, but in an environment of our choosing. The multiple screen use case for work/productivity is very appealing to me, but not with this form factor. The headset needs to be open air, easy to put on and take off, lightweight, comfortable, and it would help if it didn't look too dorky if I'm using in public. I think Immersed's Visor will be the best option for that in the near future.

Worst move was pricing out the general public out the gate. If it was way more affordable people would’ve justified purchasing it in their own way. More peoples hands being on it would’ve pushed VR/AR into the forefront of everyone’s mind. Several hundred thousand product testers would’ve helped them sort out issues of glare, motion sickness, tracking, app development/use, streaming videos, gaming, and much much more. At $3500 no one in their right mind would by it for chess and Candy Crush, and the dinosaur experience. Plus it’s way to fragile, to many people have complained about the front splitting in several areas with out any impact. The Vision Pro should’ve been ready and on sale on par with other headsets on the market, not some “pay for a premium and wait for us to abandon it in less than a year” device.

17:00 Whether to recommend getting it is different from whether it is a good product. The former must consider the price. The latter does not require that consideration. I wouldn’t recommend getting a $1500-2000+ tv. But plenty of people find that to be worthwhile. This is an amazing tv, movie theater, mobile device, 3D camera and display, that can do way more than most mention in their videos. It’s easy enough to cost-justify it in a world in which people pay $1200 for their phones… every 2-3 years - particularly if you can do those other things with it. Having first-person video of interactions with the little ones is INCREDIBLE and has lead to some misty eyes in this household.

I only have a metaquest 2 and my favourite use cases are playing walkabout golf with friends for regular catch-ups and watching movies particularly on airlines. I watched some movies on short 2 hr travel and I can never go back. Last international flight I watched and slept in my VR headset for the 14 hr flight there and back. I preload movies and therefore watch none of the onboard plane media. VR tricks your mind into thinking you aren't squashed into a seat when you are watching a screen that is 15m away in a grand cinema. It feels like virtual comfort to forget I'm squashed for 14 hrs, which is amazing. I think vision pro would only be better for plane viewing. But the lack of controllers seriously hampers it's versatility with gaming.

This thing being bought for 7k was always going to be a fail It’s like having the ability to buy a roller coaster for your backyard……it’s gonna be fun af at first, and cool to show your friends and have them enjoy it, but are you really gonna be hopping on that thing daily 6months to a year later or is it gonna be boring after after a certain amount of time? This is why novelty is never a good long term investment

It's a prosumer headset that certainly doesn't make that analogy fit for it; if you have limited use for a prosumer product, you're probably not the target audience, and that's OK. Not everyone can justify the Pro Display XDR, Mac Studio, iPad Pro, nor Mac Pro either.

@@lilkwarrior5561 Have u watched any of these 6 month later videos pal? Literally NO pro users have a need for this thing anymore because its a GIMIC. A "prosumer" or "professional" user doesnt NEED this to watch movies, but a wealthy person who can afford an expensive piece of tech that provides entertainment can tho....much like owning your own roller coaster in your backyard 🤑

@@LooksFrosty …Your point is completely void by the fact there is no stand-alone that can output as a portable secondary monitor as good as this. Other ones don’t even have Dolby HDR or any professional/premium HDR support line this headset. 2.0 literally just released with HIGHER resolutions and modes such as its 5K2K ultrawide monitor mode that even make your point moot. And that’s before the fact this standalone headset has the most powerful APU to do meaningful things + iPad app support that has an. abundance of productive apps

I have the Meta Quest 3 and the headset made me realize that the tech is awesome and a cool experience, but for it to succeed, it needs consistency. This the one platform I think the streaming business model would make sense on. I think the biggest obstacles VR/AR needs to overcome is price:value you get and friction. I think a 2 hour battery is fine, I hardly wear my headset for more than an hour. If that battery were be sustained without use, that could decrease friction. Ease of use is another. Setup. And price. I want the price of the Quest but the lenses of the AVP. Or just the lenses to be honest, watching movies kinda hurts with this resolution.

I posted this in a comment regarding professional use, but I also thought I’d post it at the first level of comments: I’m an architect and have two primary uses for it which has been very successful. I am IMMENSELY happy with my professional use of it!

in the 80's when i was 2-3 years old they put micro and nano computer robots in my brain that control my brains chemicals and function, they also put computer chips connected to my visual and sound cortex on my brain and they can put me in full VR and augmented reality, which they did a few times and at first I didn't know how it was happening until they told me, they also play movies in my brain when I'm sleeping that aren't my thoughts dreams. fun stuff!

Great overview. One thing I would note is that the shareplay functionality was mind blowing and I'd recommend trying it out. If you had coworkers, friends or family this thing it really is like sharing a physical space with them and I'd see a lot of value in. I think as adoption grows I would personally spend a ton of time on this at work or chilling with buddies or family. There's no better way to catch up virtually, IMO

I fully agree with the sports thing, I go to a lot of football (soccer) games in UK and the clip in the demo was the first time I ever felt like I was at the stadium. Absolutely impressive. The future is going to be fun as these headsets will get cheaper, lighter and even more impressive. I am a hard core VR guy that used Varjo, Quest 3 + Pro and Pimax Crystal. This is the first time I truly felt like seeing the future of VR headsets. I mainly use it for 3D and 4k movies and mostly content consumption. What could be improved - Although decent a bigger FOV would make it shine even more - On board battery is needed in the next one - Lower weight - Won't happen but gaming on Windows + direct connection to external GPU unless they make stunning games for it and they make the headset very powerful - Some form of a controller and other accessories like the Wii consoles - Make is cheaper as it's prohibitively priced - More independent devs need work on it to get extra content

The underlying business model would be the easiest aspect to fix but I don't expect Apple ever will. As time goes on it becomes clearer that the "problems" with iPads are features not bugs. It's driven by business decisions to maximize app store profits. Let's enjoy our Macs while we have them..

On the meantime, playing Alyx on my Quest 3 and Rtx 4090 on ultra settings :D both combined cost less than this device. Apple created an amazing product, but failed completely to read the elephant in the room, there’s no market for it yet. As a developer, this device spiked my interest and enthusiastically, I fantasized of working on multiple virtual displays.. however, I’d decided to give it the test of time and see what other consumers who invested in the hefty sum had to say about it. It’s a pity to have seen it flop. Apple has enough resources to throw a lot more money into it.. but, the surge LLMs now, most people who could afford a device as such are much more wary on buying it

I want the external screen. I think it should be leveraged more. Knowing when your update is complete is great. Knowing when the device has rebooted would be great. There are other examples that elude me, atm.

The price, the lack of content and the weight of the headset were all deal breakers for me. The launch of the Apple Vision actually spurred me to upgrade my Quest 1 to a Meta Quest 3 which I've thoroughly enjoyed with a ton of content options because the platform has been around for such a long time. At the end of your video you mentioned the need for a prescription for people who wear glasses, which I do. This was the moment I stopped the buy process. I have never needed my glasses using the Q3.
