Just got mine today. I’ve got to say, coming from the first generation SE, it’s worth the upgrade! The gestures can feel like a novelty, but maybe I haven’t tried it out fully yet. Also - Apple has done a good job on forcing people to get the 9, because all of the sudden, the 8 is no longer available anywhere 😂

I have done the same. I had a first gen SE up until 2 days ago which got good use from me from swimming in both the sea and in pools, to work etc but it smashed when it fell off the bathroom sink face first when I took it off for a shower, the glass was shattered. So I bought a series 9 today and did a backup restore from that SE and while it basically looks the same, there are big differences for the better. I did see some Series 8 ones around but the price difference wasn't that much.

I say if u got a series 4 and higher you don’t need to upgrade at all unless it breaks completely in my opinion and I have a SE (1st gen) and I’m never getting another watch until this one breaks which it won’t cause I take care of my devices and I jus need the simple things to communicate and gps and track my movements at times y’all acting like y’all previous watches don’t do that now y’all get caught up in the gimmicks when u literally buying the same thing every year like what is u buying the name?? How does something like spotify streaming work if you are out running and you don't bring your phone? Do you need another connectivity contract for the watch? (Never had a watch like this of any kind before).

It's horrible. This is exactly the reason behind my purchase. Just spent two hours trying to figure it out (oh and the answer to your question is that you have to have an ATT data subscription for the watch), but the user-interface is HORRIBLE! The features no one asked for 😂. The series 9 is great if you have series 5 and are looking to upgrade. I have a series 8 & can say it doesn’t matter the watch os version pretty much ruined the ease of functionally. Swiping up is no longer control panel. Introducing widgets to the watch is the most pointless and useless feature. When your paying this much for a smart watch. Think about how your using it & what your using it for. When my main data is on the screen so I dont have to go to the awful only 2 menu options a decade later you cant entice me with a little bit better this. The apple watch line needs to decrease in price. I use mine for activity, heart, weather time, battery %, messages, date on the modular face. When it becomes a chore to use the watch from the update im done. If I had the same experience for years & moving things to worse areas on a small screen is pointless. Once my apple watch is done. Will be switching to a fit bit or fossil. The apple watch is no where near worth the price anymore. The Series 6,7,8 all the same watch. Now the 9 even more so. This device should be at $199 im over the apple watch trend there not that great. The battery life on all models with lite use is 30% you need to charge it twice a day. For being a fitness companion & notification band it fails. It’s become a phone without a camera. From a series 2/3 to an SE to an 8. They all are the same. You get some new features for health 5 & up. Then a full screen keyboard. But Im finding watch os 10 terrible. Battery life is awful and theres somehow less customization. Just no. Apple does not get praise for the series 9 from me. Or the Ultra. Rip offs on both models. The End.

I looked into it a Series 6/7 SE models costs $136 to make. Cant imagine the 8 or 9 costs much more. The Ultra I would assume costs about $250 to make. You have to remember a fitbit luxe is $130 & there sense is $199. Has the same features. Just not apple. Apple does use more premium materials. & all the watches range in price. But some fitbits costs $17 to make. With knowing that the price hike is 70% more of what it costs to produce. I think the fitbit line or other smartwatches are at a better price. I didnt know how much my apple watch series 8 was till I looked at my phone bill. It was $549. I dont pay the main leasing price its $5 of month because I traded in my apple watch. But I was shocked because my SE apple watch was $229. I dont see a big difference in performance. I have more health features which is nice. But the screen is barely bigger and the battery life is worse. So thats why Im like I think they should start at $199. I know they used to around the series 2/3 when I worked retail. So I dont get how they became so expensive. They took away so many features. So it makes me kinda bummed. Its something I notice with every watch os update. Since I had a Series 2. So I don’t get it. Imo the watches have become worse in usability and features but are more expensive. Thats my take on it.

How on earth do any of you manage this device?! I've built apps with UX in mind, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to work with this stupid watch! Nothing is intuitive. No gestures are consistent between my iphone and the watch. The button's actions are inconsistent (except scrolling) and the press-button/bar's actions are also inconsistent. The touch-screen mis-fires what I touch, and when I tap or hold or swipe, the phone's reactions are inconsistent (!). How can a company worth a Trillion dollars put out something so bad?! Is there a watch out there actually worth using? I really would like to run (marathons) while tracking health, location, and listening to music or podcasts. Why does Apple make this simple "ask" so freaking complicated?!
