I agree. The upgrades are something Apple could have added to the original Ultra through software updates, and bring new life and value to an already great product; well, minus the processor boost. But to use tactics of product envy to get people to upgrade? They should be embarrassed. AWU is a fantastic product. They should have kept the original, adding software updates instead of pulling the original off the shelves to push a new one. Apple products use to be known for their value because the products were good enough to hold value for multiple years.

Apple had generally always updated technology every year or every two years. The problem now is that hardware doesn’t move as fast as software. Big leaps in technology won’t occur year to year, but Apple still has products to sell. They should have kept the S moniker to signal small changes to devices.

You can enable assistive touch on any Apple Watch in accessibility settings and have same hand gestures to control the watch. It is nothing new. Apple lacked features and just showed a hidden feature already available on all watches

Just because you’re not ready to upgrade doesn’t mean someone with a 5 year old Apple Watch doesn’t want this one instead of last years ultra. Same with the phones. Coming from a series 4, I don't mind paying the extra $300 to get the ultra 2 brand new, and the few new features while aren't groundbreaking or extraordinary, are small little niceties to have. Also the ultra 2 does now support qi charging as well. I think upgrading really depends on your personal budget and what you can afford, and what watch you are upgrading from.

I had my AW3 for 4 years, and have been rocking with my 7 since early last year. Apple made a high quality product with a lot of life in it so the upgrade cycle for watches is gonna be way longer than the phones. As a matter of fact, my sister has my old watch and it still runs like new.

You can use the gestures with your series 4 already if you activate the assistive touch function. And this is way more powerful than just a tap to confirm. Also, quick actions are nice to click notifications away and super simple. They are selling something that has been there for years as a brand new feature. It’s not.

I have to agree with you. I own the Ultra 1 and I am Extremely happy with it. I remember how truly exciting it was to order it because it was really a New watch. When I heard they were bringing out an Ultra 2 I was a bit shocked because how much better could it be?? After seeing the reveal I am totally disappointed. The only thing that maybe would have caused me to upgrade would have been a black titanium finish or the extended battery life to something like 48 hrs on a single charge with like 90+ low power. Now you would get my attention. The only thing they’ve put what is a gimmick with that double click crap. At first I thought it was a joke.

I totally agree I would rather have more software upgrades with my current Ultra than upgrade to the Ultra 2 just for extra brightness and tap features. I’m happy with the way my Ultra 1 is performing and I am using the new Modular Ultra Face currently and my watch is handling it flawlessly. I’ll wait another year or two when something more extraordinary comes out that wows me.

It was a very lackluster event. I normally always upgrade every year, but it didn't make me feel like I needed to. I don't really know about titanium, with them saying 'it’s light,' because usually lighter feels cheaper, and I like the weight; it makes it feel premium or like I didn't throw money away, LOL. But I'll wait until I can hold it and see. As far as the Apple Watch Ultra, I wish we would have gotten a titanium black, at least; would have loved that.

Hear me out. Since this message won’t affect my market significantly at all. Since the ultra is new product category. You can buy the new ultra every year and sell the last years model at a 60%. Meaning if you had planned to buy the new ultra every other year. You still are money wise but you get the new one every year. I was able to do this with the series watches until they came out with the SE effectively pricing the normal series out of the question for used market(you’d take such a hit that it wasn’t worth it). But we can now do that again with the ultra until they do some sort of se version of the ultra which I hope they do not do

The gesture is not a new thing. Quick actions and assistive touch do offer such gestures and you can use them with every watch series 4 or newer. Assistive touch is even way more powerful.

I bought a SE 2nd gen this year when it was on sale and last year the 13 Promax. Glad I bought the 13 PM because all of my family members who upgraded to the 14 PM have had issue with the battery not lasting even 1 day. We have the same IOS and still their battery was terrible. Heard the 14 been having battery issues

I upgraded from the 12pm to the 15pm. Three generations of iterative improvements make a pretty solid difference. Also the iPhone 12 has an overheating issue and the whole France scandal might start a class action.

As much as I like my Apple Watch ultra, I think Im going back Garmin. For someone that does long distance bicycle touring the gps features and battery life is just so much better on Garmin. Ive been wearing my ultra for almost a year now, I got it the day it came out, and love that I have no scratches on it. I’m a mechanic and its always bumping into something. For work I like my ultra, for outdoors adventures, I prefer Garmin.

As someone who has been a beta for the new software for years now I’m here to tell you that the new watch face is available on the original ultra, which is on my wrist and is going to remain on my wrist. That said, I’m also not going from my 14 pro max to the 15 Pro Max it’s ridiculous. Every other year Apple comes out with a goose egg and I just wait for the next upcoming year. I’ll wait for iPhone 16 Pro max and the ultra 3.

I think you make a lot of sense. The only reason I was considering upgrading to a larger face from my Apple Watch 6 was due to the recent upgrade to the watch software, and you can no longer use the crown to make the widgets lager and easier to see. But understandably it is strictly a guy thing to want to only get $300 credit on the iPhone 14 you bought less then a yr ago for the 15 pro in titanium, and I did. And if they had made the ultra 2 in black you could identify it from the ultra, but guys are going nuts selling their Ultras on eBay right now to buy the ultra 2 and they only had them for less then a year and the prices are starting to dip bellow $400 because too many guys are selling their ultra’s to buy the ultra 2 and those that waited to get the ultras are now just skipping to the ultra 2’s

Yeah it's great and the battery life is the best of any Apple watch. Compared to actual sports watches though like Garmin, the battery life is still a joke. Of course the Ultra is much more than just a sports watch but I think the battery life is still not there.

For me, the s9 chip is a big deal. This is a true new chip for the first time in years. The s8 was a rebranded s7 which itself was a rebranded s6. All of them are based on the A13's small cores. This means that when they decide to drop the support for series 6 they will drop support for the Ultra 1st gen.

The new cycling features which include being able to use Bluetooth speed, cadence and power sensors are Watch OS 10 features as people have been using then in beta even the display your stats on I your iPhone are in Watch OS 10 so they included features which are not exclusive.

The new watch face is available in Watch OS 10 - currently using it in the public beta; and the ambient light detector works too so it turns red in dark light automatically. Agree with your comments - if the dark titanium was available I'd upgrade, but given the only real difference is Thanos Finger Snap I'll hold off to see watch Ultra 3 has to offer next year.

I f***ing love my Apple Watch ultra! I am honestly happy I bought a $800 watch and don’t have fomo about the 2! I ordered a new band and I’m more than satisfied

Coming from the series 5, I was prepared to pay $799 on an original Ultra, so I’m fine with paying the same amount on the Ultra 2 now… well yesterday… for an enhanced version.

I honestly was hoping it would be a black darker version for the Ultra 2 I'm sticking with my ultra 1. Maybe next upgrade apple nice try.

I have the Watch OS 9 Release Candidate. Ultra 1 owners get the new Ultra Trail Watch face, the new Nike face, and the “Solar” face.
