I wish people understood that the Sapphire glass (which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned) it has is what makes the price so high (Series 8 stainless steel with the Sapphire is only $50 cheaper than the Ultra) and, in my opinion, the main selling point for the watch. The brightness is just secondary to the sapphire glass. The watch was made for those that hike, run, swim and so on pretty consistently and not having to worry about it scratching (and i mean not one scratch or mark), cracking or breaking if I slam it against a rock is amazing. The watch wasn't made for people that dont do all that stuff hence why they have the Series 7 and 8 so the Ultra is never going to be worth it for those that arent outside all the time...unless you can just drop money or want the next newest thing all the time

For me-the battery life is the number one reason to buy this watch. Funny, I said that comment when it first came out…and here we are months in and I am watching a number of reviews that point this out too. Haven’t got one yet, but as I watch the videos I am completely convinced that if I get an Apple watch, it will be the Ultra.

Honestly, when I bought my Ultra, I, too, thought that I was going to keep it, but I just couldn’t part with the nicer looking Series 7! Outside of the battery (which I STILL miss), I like everything better about my Series 7: The looks, the marching bands, and the slimmer, lighter profile.

Well, it’s a personal preference as, outside of Apple Watch Ultra’s superior specs, you’re basically choosing which look you like best. For me, I’m still rockin’ my Series 7, enjoying its sleeker look and gold stainless steel shine. If you’re looking for the cheapest model that gets the job done, then the SE is for you! It’s a personal decision based on tastes as half of the experience of an Apple Watch is the fashion aspects of it (the case and the bands), after all…

Well, the box looks more on the square side versus the standard Series watch's rectangular box. This is probably because it's Ultra's first iteration and is, thus, treated more like a special edition like the Apple Watch Editions in the past.

Considering Garmin has a couple of watches that are $899 & $999, and not as fully featured, the Ultra was $80-100 more than the Stainless Steel, depending on where you live. The titanium and ceramic should prove more durable, and hopefully reveals less scratches and scuff marks. The screen area looks significantly larger, but then, I upgraded from the Series 3 SS, plus twice the screen brightness of the Series 8, that’s immensely beneficial… Crash detection feature can be a life saver, and there is already a kid who credits the Ultra as saving his life. The 100M submergence is also a testament to it’s engineering and quality. I too prefer the rounded edges of the glass and find the flat potentially problematic, just ask a spouse… The battery life is the absolute key to the overall experience. The Ultra seems to last at least 80 hours (3 days + 8 hours). So if I use the Ultra at full potential, it should last at least 24 hours or more, the Series 3 only lasted 18/20 hours in low power mode, 10/12 otherwise… Also, everyone says the audio sound very clear as if speaking from an iPhone… So basically ULTRA worth it… 🤔

I would say that, as you mentioned, if battery life is paramount to you, and you’re ok with, or even like Ultra’s look over Series 7/8, it’s a no-brainer: get Ultra as that’s a SOLID upgrade over its more contemporary counterparts! As I mentioned, I simply liked and actually MISSED my gold stainless steel Series 7 and preferred the look over it and was ok with not having any of the other exclusive features that Ultra has (except for battery life, which I’ll just have to live without until future non-Ultra models get something like that). Without a doubt, Apple Watch Ultra is an AWESOME, solid upgrade, especially for those coming from Series 6 or earlier and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending it for a second to those who are in the market for it!

@@it_provisor Had the Series 8 the battery life of the Ultra, a Titanium or even Ceramic case, I would have chosen it instead, as I prefer the more elegantly stylized design. I must say, I have grown accustomed to the much larger display these last few weeks… 😏

@@superzero4250 Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that those of us who like the more elegant, all-around design simply want Ultra-like internals in the traditional case that we know and love (small tweaks to that design are ok, however). Maybe next year… 🤞🏻

@@BlueTenorSax I don’t sleep track with my watch, actually, as I don’t feel the need to track my sleep and I also charge my watch overnight. Also, I didn’t keep my Ultra as I liked my gold stainless Series 7 better overall. However, from what I’ve heard, there’s practically NO difference between the models as far as what you feel/the experience is when sleep tracking.

You CAN trade them in, but, as you said, there’s not a lot of value that remains. I’ve seen as much as half of the original paid trade in value, but that’s if you trade in the previous generation model. That’s why you should simply just use and enjoy the watch as much as you can and try to get as much out of it as you can once it comes time to upgrade.

Here’s a battery test. How long will a full battery last if you left the emergency siren on? Does it kill the battery? Good to know if you are lost in a remote area.

That's an interesting question that I've never thought of before until you mentioned it. I suppose one could turn on the siren and let it run for however long it may last for (preferably in an open area outdoors), but the only scenario I could see that happening is if you turned on the siren and then either a) had some crazy malfunction that wouldn't let you turn it off unless you did a hard reboot or b) became unconscious (I think b is the more likely scenario, even though both are HIGHLY unlikely). At any rate, even if I DID think about it while reviewing, that wouldn't have been something very practical to test nor was it something that I would've been willing to do, especially since the siren gets pretty loud (as I showcased in my review). Also, looking for an answer to this question online didn't yield anything, which leads me to believe that I'm not alone in my logic or sentiment...

Well, considering that the siren is using the speaker for however long it can use it for and the screen is on until being turned off with the siren, I would imagine that it wouldn’t last as long as you think because of the constant screen and speaker usage. Then again, too, I’m not sure if there’s an auto shutoff built in to avoid such an issue, assuming this were to let run. Again, I don’t see any documentation or testing for such an unusual circumstance, so it’s anyone’s guess (just like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop)…

3 days of battery? On low power mode? What is your daily use like?

I used it for about an hour of walking exercise while using cellular, some app interactions like messages, and used the phone for a few minutes here and there. Keep in mind that I was on Wi-Fi for most of the time since I work from home (although I did go out with it here and there). However, even with being out occasionally, I still managed to not use up TOO much battery, which is what was most impressive with my time with Ultra (and something that I'll miss). Note that, believe it or not, I NEVER used Low Power Mode, which is just a testament to how INSANELY good the batter life is for an Apple Watch! This would be the BIGGEST reason to upgrade!

Try it out and see how you like it (like I did); depending on where you got it, you probably have until the end of the year or so to decide if you like it or not, so test it out thoroughly and see how it works out for you! Nope, but it DOES let you share your location information for apps that need it and also can send diagnostic information to Apple for product improvement, if you let it!

UVI stands for "UltraViolet Index" and is basically a gauge that measures the sun's strength throughout the day and when the best time to wear sunblock is, when applicable.

It's something that only shows as a complication by itself. Otherwise, you need to look in Apple's Weather app to see it, like I did. Also, it's possible to see it in other 3rd party weather apps, if they support it, too!

I love the look of the watch, just not the price & it sucks that it won't work with Samsung devices. I left Apple years back because of no outer innovation on their phones & I couldn't be happier with Samsung & I just got the 5 Pro Titanium. @@ramsfan709 Do it! You won't regret the iPhone experience! Also, you can use Android watches with iPhone, but not vice versa, just in case you like other watches, too. It's like running Windows on a Mac: you can do that on a Mac, but you can't run macOS on Windows. So, if you want the best of both worlds, there's no other place than the Apple ecosystem!

But I TOTALLY understand where you’re coming from and, if you like it better, then Apple has the watch for you! 👍🏻

3 days battery life max!! Are you having a laugh??? Everyone saying “how fantastic the battery life is now”, are pure Apple fanboys. As a marathon runner I don’t want to have to download 3rd party apps (especially after paying so much for the watch!). I’ll stick with my Garmin.

From an Apple Watch user's perspective, this is actually GREAT battery life. Remember: Garmin and Apple watches are COMPLETELY different devices that only share the fact that you wear them on your wrist in common! For what Garmin does, they are the best; for what Apple does, they are the best! If your Garmin suits your style better, then continue to stick with it as Ultra is simply not there yet (one day, however)...

The Ultra being more durable is also worth the price. The other Apple watches are easily damaged. I feel I don’t have to worry about the Ultra , I ’ve knocked it around a bit and no evidence of damage so far.

@@DbeeSapphire I know, I’ve seen some CRAZY durability tests where the watch gave out WELL before the screen, which was still PRISTINE after the body was pretty much destroyed and the watch inoperable! For an extra $50, this piece of mind is worth it for those who aren’t as careful with their watches…
