It is clearly meant to be compared to the Garmin Fenix 7X (51mm), Suunto 9 and other sports/outdoorsy watches. I can’t wait to see comparisons with those watches to see if I should sidegrade from my Garmin. My Garmin will probably still be better for hiking, climbing, etc. but I’m losing a lot of features that would be useful in my day-to-day life. It would be nice if you or Max compared it to those outdoors watches when you review/compare the watch later🙂. (You can still compare it to a regular apple watch 8, but we already know it is just an apple watch 8 on steroids (bulkier but with added features/benefits))

I'm not really a good reference for an apple watch (Mostly because I've been using garmin watches for sports). But if you can have an apple refurbished (directly from apple) S7 for the same price as the SE, I would get the S7. (Better sensors, SE doesn't have ECG, blood oxygen, dust resistance, etc.)

Thanks for you comparison videos . I price matched the series 7 green that Costco had for $269 at my Military PX for no tax and free shipping. With the subtle changes in the series 8 , I am hanging tight. Previously My wife purchased me the Series 7 Titanium Cellular for $849 and I returned it , just couldn’t see the value . Ultra is the ultimate choice 👍🏼

I have both… the series 7 aluminum and the Ultra… you get used to the ultra size after a week or so. Now my dilemma is do I bother to sell my series 7 or just keep it for a backup since I probably can’t get much for it now. Got the Ultra from Amazon “renewed” for $150 off which is quite nice. Makes the price much easier to handle/justify.

Just ordered my Ultra! Skipped on upgrading over the years. Been rocking out with the 5 since back when! I’m definitely anticipating usage of this watch to finally leave my phone home. Just wondering if the touted 36 hours are enough to keep my watch powered in cellular mode for a full day. So yeah, I’m patiently waiting! I use my 6 with cellular and without my phone almost all day, and even with the “18” hours battery life, I make it a full day. I think they underestimate the battery life in order to cover their ass, so I’m sure the 36 hours will be fine

I have a series 5, which I wanted to upgrade as the battery no longer lasts the day for me. I was going to upgrade from aluminum to stainless due to scratches I have in the glass (also a problem for me in the series 3). The Ultra checks all the boxes for me and I’ve ordered one that will be delivered in late October. I’m a big guy (6’4, 260 lb) , so am not worried about the size being too big. It may not be appropriate for formal occasions, but for me those are few and far between.

I can't see what difference it would make in formal settings. But I guess that thickness wouldn't fit under a shirt. I don't go to any formal events so for me this watch will be my daily driver for a good three or four years.

@@sertonydefense6714 IMO it's absolutely worth the pirice. I don't feel much a difference by wearing the ultra in normal every day use. But I get a tone of more feature, for example the better battery life, better GPS, better stronger housing, a much brighter bigger display, the Action Button (which is quite interesting) and a far better speaker for phone calls. Buying outright and linking it to the phone provider was my choise.

It does look big but I’ve wanted a bigger Apple Watch since the Series 0. I wish Apple would do a quality titanium bracelet to match it though, just like the stainless steel. Shouldn’t be too difficult, should it? I know there are a few third party ones which I will have a look at but, obviously, one made by Apple would be a safe buy rather than take a risk on an unknown manufacturer.

Have the Stainless Series 4 and now I have the Ultra on order...can't wait...I do a lot of Mt Biking and the feature that lets you mark your route so you can return on it is pretty cool. I'm not sure if I like how the Watch Crystal is installed on the watch if it's in Stainless Steel while the rest of the watch case is Ti? Why couldn't be all Ti? I guess I can return it if this feature looks funky in person.

I really like your videos on this channel because they are always very detail rich. Just a little improvement suggestion for this video: I am a female, which means that the temperature measurement (also integrated in the watch 8) is a big deal for me and something I have been waiting for since years. It’s a game changing feature (nothing alike on the market other than an overpriced wristband, which doesn’t work very well) and might get many women away from having to take hormones for preventing pregnancy. If you could put more emphasis on this feature in your upcoming reviews of the Apple watch 8 (ultra) for your female audience that would be much appreciated! The other thing is that you might consider adding metric measurements in addition. It just helps visualising a big part of your audience unfamiliar with feet and inches.

I tried on the Apple Watch ultra and love it. But unfortunately I cannot afford the $799 price tag. So I ended up getting an 45mm Apple Watch series 7 GPS and Cellular Version on sale for $329.99. Since this is my first Apple watch I think I made the right decision to save money and yet still have a great watch. If you have the money I would definitely get the Apple Watch ultra. i’m keeping my stainless steel s7, getting rid of my stainless s4 and getting the ultra with green alpine band. perfect companion for my 14 pro max! i’ll use the stainless for dress up and the ultra for biking, gym, camping or pretty much anything else. the battery life and titanium at that price point is great. i was shocked when they announced the price. like you said, it’s not far off from the stainless steel. i got a 45mm ss 7 with a braided solo loop at launch which puts it at the same price due to the $50 extra for the upgraded band. that’s insane. i thought $899-$999 for sure!

Apple Watch, even regular watch, is now the Garmin killer. Power metrics and zones, maps, cadence, ground contact time, stride height, etc. in October 2022 Watch OS9. Garmin will soon die for the Apple crowd, even with their training data hub.

I ordered the Apple Watch Ultra and I can’t wait to try it out. With the very low trade in values, I’m keeping my Series 7 Space Gray Stainless Steel for occasions where a dress watch is more appropriate. I love the rugged look of the ultra, but it’s not going to go well with a suit. For me the biggest selling points are the battery life and that new explorer watch face. When I saw the price I was shocked, the rumors suggested $900 - $1,000, so to come in at less than last years Series 7 titanium made this a no brainer for me.

Well its kinda overkill for you. If you don't plan on deep diving, or being in sub 0 or over 110 degrees, or running iron man's etc, mountain climbing why not just the series 8?. I'm having a hard time justifying buying the Ultra myself, when all of the differences between it and my apple watch 5 are things I never will use it for. 😅 but just like you I want the best available thing when I upgrade, and it's better to have features and not use them then to need features and not have them. Ugh the decisions! How'd you come to your conclusions!?! It's so hard lol

@@xalvarez07 I’m in the same situation as the original poster on this one. For me the decision was more about the size and additional ruggedness of the watch. My series 3 has had a small crack on the screen for a few years. The waterproofing is gone on my watch because of the crack. I was considering a series 8 of the ultra didn’t come out. That size would have been sufficient for my wrist but the ultra seems more interesting. Everyone has an Apple Watch nowadays. Can hardly tell them apart. The ultra looks unique, at least for now.

Macbooks from 850$ air to fully speced M1 Max Macbook Pro, iPad Mini to iPad Pro 12.9in. Everything Apple has released since 2020 has been overkill and cheap. It's so crazy. I'm fully ecosystem-ed out with Apple and Samsung/Windows. And my apple products are way more powerful, and my samsung products are way more expensive so I'm just confused, on how valuable it all is. Way more powerful than anything and now way more affordable in every category.

Series 8 in Canadian rubles can be had for $529 vs $1099 for the Ultra… I get when you add cellular and upgrade the case material the “value” proposition comes a bit more into focus but it is hard to ignore the fact the ultra starts at slightly more than double the price of the 8.

I am upgrading from my series 6 the 7 & 8 for me didn’t had any real difference for the one I was already had. So the ULTRA is a real and noticeable upgrade, from any series after the 5.

I am coming from a Apple Watch Series 5 44MM Nike Edition. My reason for upgrading are as follows. I already get $85.00 off just for trading in the Watch. In addition, all the bands I currently have are compatible with the new Ultra. Just like Max said, my battery life is pretty bad on a 3 year old Watch. Plus it doesn’t help I have the Always on Display running 24/7. Finally, I have a feeling that Apple/Nike and other 3rd party brands are going to make very new and cool Watch bands for the Apple Watch Ultra in the future that can also give it a more classy appeal making it feel like a very premium Watch as well as a rugged outdoor watch.

I don’t need it, I just want it, lol. I have a super tiny wrist and I’m still going to get it. Hands down. I hope they come out with more colors for the side button instead of orange features, but besides that, I love it. Was going to upgrade from my old 6 to an 8 since it’s really beaten up by now, but when I saw the Ultra come out, I thought, yep… getting that! Don’t need it, just want it lol. All the extra features and style are why I’m doing it, not because of anything else. They should have put as least a few of these on the new 8, this thing is going to kill the sales on that!

Ive been buying fitbit watches for the past 5 years and the only reason I never bought apple watch was the short battery life,which fitbit had me covered with. Now that they finally made an apple watch that battery lasts longer Ill definitely be buying it. Thanks for the review

Is upgrading from a regular 12 to an iPhone 14 pro max worth it? My 12 overheats easily and the battery has been pretty bad and idk if I should wait for 15 pro max or not, I’ve been waiting for the 14 pro max and it has everything I need

The temperature sensors upgrade is a game changer and a feature that should really be hyped up. The fact that women can better track their ovulation cycles with an additional data point. Not only impacting the women themselves but also families/couples that are trying to conceive. Well done Apple

If you think about how much a diving computer costs, I would say that the ultra is a no-brainer for people that are into scuba diving, can't wait to have someone reviewing the sports aspects of this watch in more detail.
