Apple ee’s used to have great food back in the 90’s. Another example of a corporations deciding “cheap prices” were more important that good food. Hence, lost tons of customers. So glad I wasn’t a franchise owner!

First the steaks are actually USDA Standard Grade or lower then needle tenderized with papain. Those steaks come from what is known as white fat cows which are cull cows fed on feedyard feed for 60-90 days to improve their carcass merit. They're safe but you're not getting high quality meat. The riblets are the cartlage tips of the end of the spareribs from when they separate the ribs from the belly wall. Thus the reason they have little to no meat. How I know this is because I am a former federal meat inspector for USDA FSIS and I have a degree in meat science.

As someone who has worked at applebees i’ll say don’t come in expecting anything gourmet, especially if you worked where i did where you’d get 3 people working an entire kitchen on their own including lunch and dinner rushes, 5 if you’re lucky The only reason i ate the food and never complained was because i got it free and you’ll never hear me complain about a free meal

I'm a former Applebee's employee the Quesadilla burger was definitely a hit! some of my favorites are the Bourbon Black and Bleu Burger, Chicken Freshcato, Creamy Parmesan Chicken, 3 Cheese Chicken Penne with extra bruschetta, The Cajun Pasta, Crispy Brewhouse Chicken, Fiesta Lime Chicken, Fiesta Chopped Salad, Potato Twisters with Queso Blanco (my favorite!!! with jalapeño peppers and chili in the cheese) The Spinach and Artichoke Dip is a cult classic!!!!! I was also #1 when it came to selling The Perfect Margarita! I had great memories with the original staff I started with!.

I've worked at an applebees in a small town for a few years tbh our burgers were our freshest items. The cook's there knew how to cook but they mainly kept their talent to themselves due to the managers restricting.

I agree! I enjoy Chilli's much more. Once we got a Chilli's in our area I quit going to Applebee's altogether. I rarely went to Applebee's as it was. Many years ago, (around 15 or 20 years) they were much better.

Absolutely! I hadn’t had food from either place in years. Last month I had Chili’s and Applebee’s a week removed from each other and I was surprised how subpar Applebee’s quality truly was. Their baby back ribs were burnt and dry and very little meat to the bone. Chili’s were at least good ribs not as good as your local mom and pop place but for a restaurant chain they were pretty darn good.

They had EXCELLENT mashed potatoes until about 2018-19. I used to order them for turkey on Thanksgiving. When they changed to the current ones years back, I have never even went back. What a stupid change!

I don’t know maybe I’m lucky but most of the time my Applebee’s by my house is on it. I don’t expect them to not have frozen stuff in the back, but it seems like the cooks actually have some skill in cooking, enjoy it, and make sure that things are up to standards.

The last time I ate at Applebee's the bun for my sandwich had mold on the bottom. I picked it up and saw it. Called the manager over and she said "oh that is just flour and not mold". Since when is flour black and green ? I will never eat here again.

Me too. A lot of people said that the thing they missed the most when covid made things shut down was eating out. Chain restaurants really have such boring and bland food that I don't see how eating out is still a thing.

Saturated fats really aren't the enemy -- although a person can consume an overload of calories on any fat. The worst fats are refined oils/fats. Very unhealthy. And another culprit of weight gain are grains and processed foods generally. I o miss Applebee's though. I won't go there anymore.

Oh Applebee's should tell people the truth about no substitutions. I went there after a movie on a first date. The guy ask the waitress to not put bourbon sauce on the steak because he was allergic. Needless to say he spent the next three days in the hospital. I have not been back since.

I literally have to be drunk af to enjoy anything at Applebee's. And with all the sodium, you'll wish you were if you aren't. Also, if I were to open an eatery, I'd only have just a few items and specialize in them. More diners need to be aware of ingredient turnover. If your menu has a bajillion things on it, it's basically a minefield.

I enjoy Applebee's. I love their house sirloin, which has cooked right each time I've ordered it. I enjoy the atmosphere, which is friendly. The only thing I don't like is that they don't serve baked potatoes until after 4 pm.

I don't even eat out much at all now. The standard of service and food quality just don't seem to be there anymore. If it tastes even remotely decent, it's probably overpriced. If you want a properly cooked meal with quality ingredients, then you might as well learn how to cook and eat at home. Been doing that for well over 10 years now.

I worked ther for a few weeks and witnessed so much disgusting things I couldn’t take it anymore. The steaks are brown in color prior to being cooked, almost everything is microwaved, most of the food comes in a boil in bag, I witnessed a manager drop a burger on the floor and pick it up and serve it. I felt horrible for the customer. There was little to no professionalism there. The workers smoke weed out back with the managers permission. I saw more Ghetto behavior there than the housing project I grew up in. Applebee’s is the closest I’ve ever been to hell on earth and I am glad to be out of there.

Half of the info in this video is false. Applebees is a chain, not a mom and pop restaurant. Corners get cut for the sake of making a meal more affordable with the goal of getting it out faster. You don't go to Applebee's planning on staying for a few hours while each dish is hand made alongside all the other diners, do you? Nope, you want your meal quick. As far as the microwave conspiracy... your sides are most likely reheated but your mains are cooked to order.

I used to be a broil cook and the two worst things really were the riblets which are horrible and don't ever order fajitas or anything with chopped chicken breast when its crazy busy i saw so many people flash steam chicken and finish it in the microwave ugggh

I agree with you on the riblets, they are nasty. Not all applebees are the same with cooking methods and not all cooks are that lazy. I've never seen anyone microwave chicken in my kitchen.
