My Scottish/Irish tinker heritage makes all the old stories of our travelin folk come back to life.Appleby, the sale of matched grais , draft cobs and sad parting with the beloved hand raised horses, that shared her tavels/bread..so I thought nothing of riding my palimino gypsy vanner , Apache'Chief; astallion to the end o' his days..

At 3:43 and again at 4:43, there's such a lovely horse! Looks like great power, but nice size too. Not giants, but strong. In Canada we do not ever have horses on the roads or streets... ever. So interesting to see them working. Only have them in fields, ditches, arenas etc. Not a good chance to see them working.

Thers all kinds of horses and buggy all the minninites amish people I live in Lindsay Ontario and see them a few times a week they come into town certain bussiness have horse and buggy parking only Kitchener ont thers a ton of them outside of Kitchener the cops in Toronto downtown ride them in the summer they use them for crowd control so if you look they are around more so in the country towns

This is how the Gypsies live we might think it's cruel and harsh and inhumane but they call it life. I bought a set of twin foals from Applebys and had them for 25 years they were gray. They were my best friends. When they died I sort of went into a shell. Now I want to go back and bring more back. That's one thing I will never do is whip them, they are kind and gentle,they don't need a whip.

Gorgeous - loved every minute - but sad that their way of life is now disappearing fast. That's why they are now struggling to make a living from hawking gardening services/tree services etc etc. I worry for the horses which I love so very much.

Having been to this fair many years ago and seeing this first hand i don't actually see that much wrong with the welfair of these horses. It certainly isn't cruelty to horses. Yes a few might people might need to be educated in certain aspects of tacking their horse but other then that these horses are well covered and fairly well looked after. Leave this fair alone leave these people alone. This is one of the last pieces of real history of these islands left in modern Britain and all these ways of life have to be preserved

the idea of the tradition when they come together is fantastic, whats wrong is dragging along mares with foals at foot! being rough when there really is no need over whipping and seeing some horses that shouldnt have tack on their back at the age they do thats whats wrong with it all. Let a baby be a baby, and stop causing distress where there is no need for it

It's not a judgement of gypsies. Gypsies are human like the rest of us. This year Appleby looks really bad. Humans made the mess. Their being Gypsy is an accident of birth. The ones who are cruel, or make messes where their horses go have made a choice.
