For me, Neil Young has always been a mixed bag. His best stuff has been nothing short of brilliant, and the rest is a mishmash of everything from pretty good to awful. There are very few songs that change as these guys are describing toward the end of the video. In fact, the last time I recall it happening was the first time I heard "Stairway..." when it was released. The first day I put in on the turntable I wasn't sure what I was listening to. It sounded very garbled to me. After about a week I started understanding and hearing what was going on put it still didn't gel for me yet. I'd say it tokk close to a month for me to totally appreciate the song. I was a fan of Ravels 'Bolero' at the time and it may have had an effect on how I heard Zeps tune, I don't know, but I can't wait to listen to Neils song (which I'm gonna do the second I stop typing here). but man, its such a dynamite experience when music messes with your head like that and to me at least, its a sign of musical genius. Off I go ...
