OMG...I am so glad you brought this to the public's attention!! I also purchased a cellular plan when I bought my new apple watch. A few months ago - during summer -, as a runner, I noticed that whenever I left my phone in the car while I went running, if someone sent me a txt or a call, I would not be notified until I made it closer to my car (my phone), or got back into my car. Thereafter, I simply started carrying my phone with me when I went for a run and it kinda slept my mind. But now that you mentioned it, I tested my watch by calling the assigned phone number to it, and it did not ring. I will be taking my complain to Sprint - now T-Mobil, to see what can be done about all those months I've been paying and not really having the service paid for. this is what i got after searching a bit: Why does my Apple Watch have a different phone number? The Apple watch uses NumberShare to link your iPhone with the watch for calls and texts. The watch will technically have it's own line and number, but will not be able to receive text messages on that line. It can only receive messages from the main NumberShare line. Hope this helps

Did you set it up in the Apple Watch app? You need to set up the data plan in the watch app as if doesn’t automatically add it. It should detect it because if connects to your carrier. You may be paying for it but it might not be set up. If not, it’s a definite scam or it’s a problem on your carrier’s side

Yes as was the correct procedure. When we originally bought, we had them set up at the AT&T store and became we were doing multiple we watched and listened to the set up procedures. The first watches that came out, they had problems with them setting them up, or syncing but that was human knowledge error. But the next gens they knew. But in short it’s more a scam I believe. As you are normally with your phone and watch together, therefore the watch syncs with the phone and you think the watch has its separate internet connection.

You need to speak with an AT&T tech and they can possibly resolve this. Has been happening to me since the beginning (couple of months) and they discovered that there was something on their end that needed to be switched. They did this remotely for me.

100% same problem I’ve been paying for 3 watches for - I don’t even know (maybe years) only to find out that my watches are not working with my cellular. I to have been paying $10 per watch times three. Coincidentally, my kids you broke her phone and I told her to use her watch and that is when I figure this thing out. I’ve also spent roughly 5 to 7 hours on the phone with AT&T support, and I can see that they have done is suspended the line, which still charges me the same amount per month. I think I’m headed to Verizon, I’ll just take the hit & purchases new tech. Thx for the video.

😮 no…. Call them again and give them grief. You want your money back or at least $200+ Tell them you know of more people going through the same thing via KZbin and they are talking about setting up a class action case. Aim for a full but have a lower figure and even take it as credit. Don’t give up they want you to do that. 👍🏽👍🏽

I had the same problem initially with airplane mode but I had to switch on the Bluetooth once and off again to make the apple watch to make call. I am using Verizon, so I am not sure about the other carriers.

Have u tried setting the apple-watch as a family member? When setting up the apple-watch it asks you if want to set up for yourself or a family member. Had to do that on my apple-watch to connect to Verizon

Yes I have have.👍🏽 I payed for six watches all on the family plan. They were originally set up from the start and because it was a new concept, they were still learning how to link them up correctly. It took hours to do especially having 6 watches. I no longer pay for the service on 5 of them I don’t trust it anymore. Hope you get your sorted out..... But remember to check it every time there’s an apple update 🤔😱

Also Apple Watch series 5 and newer has a function where you do not need to sign up for a plan to make calls to 911 or whatever the local emergency number is in supported countries.

Correct, but I had the series 5 with GPS and Data plan. But if you read some of the posts you will see we found the complication occurs due to Apple updates..... and that leads the plan needs resetting. But we are not to know this if no one lets us know.😊

This is partially an Apple issue with Carriers. Apple hasn't made a contract with carriers to run Apple Watches as their own separate devices on cellular yet. Carriers will give Apple Watches their own numbers and be a separate device but Apple requires the Number sharing at this point. So if your phone is off or in airplane mode you can still receive iMessages definitely and FaceTime voice calls(I believe). You can't receive SMS or MMS(green bubble texts) or push notifications from apps though if the phone isn't powered on and connected to wifi or data. The iPhone doesn't have to be close to you at all but to receive all notifications the phone has to be on still and connected to some type of internet.

rockyraquel really same for me too. I would leave my phone in the car, then go to the gym to run. It would work 50/50 becoming more reliant on the gyms Wi-Fi, which was poor at the best of times. I stopped doing it and resorted back to my phone. Now I have the arm band but even better a chest harness. The iPhone goes into a pouch that you can open, view your phone and close with clip. Very good 👍🏽 Save the money on the watch buy the band or chest strap. You will be pleased😊👍🏽

Seems like you never used the service or you would have known it wasn't setup correctly. So you weren't scammed. You just weren't properly protected as you had hoped to be in getting the service on the watch.

The Real Jimmy Lundy I did use the service as I would go to the gym or a run and leave my phone in my car. But my watch wouldn’t work. I thought it was just my EarPods not connecting probably. I never thought I could loose my cellular, though updates or..? What ever. But you may be right in my “being scammed “ terminology was incorrect. It was either apples fault for their software or AT&T’s fault for the connectivity issues.???

I found out why they do this from a sprint agent. If you buy the watch on payments that force this "Plan" as a billing thing to make money off it. no other reason. Its just an extra line for a source of revenue. These watched should be purchased outright not on payments or they will screw you for over $240 + over 24 months.

Make sure you have an actual plan first and foremost, then disconnect wifi and the bluetooth, turn watch off then turn back on, and try to make a call and hopefully that should work

Alynn Alceus Yes. To link all the apps, music etc. But you can also buy a designated line ( a cellular/ GPS plan on the phone) which once synced you can leave your phone at home and just use the phone on your watch.

Sydney Elliott I ended up canceling it. If I can’t rely on it, it’s not worth having. Since this video I hardly wear the watch anymore. Can’t wear it during the day because it may get scratched air cracked, due to my type of work.and don’t use it much at night. So it’s back to wearing a normal watch. Sorry for the downer.👍🏽😟

Hi. I broke my phone recently also. I thought it was no big deal as I have an Apple Watch series 3 with a cellular plan @ T-mobile. However I had the same problem. For a month I “did not “have cellular data.... once I finally bought a phone I thought the problem would be solved but it was not.... I did some setting searching and then I realized that it was because of the update. I unpaired and paired my watch to test my watch after the update and my cellular plan worked on my watch once repaired to the phone. I went through the steps you suggested and my watch cellular plan works. To test my assumption more I tried it on my wife’s watch. My wife’s watch has the watchOS 6 and still has the cellular problem because I have not umpired and paired it. So it may be due to the update. Try to reset it. It worked for me 🤷🏽‍♂️

Jose Luna to have LTE on Apple Watch cellular you only pay $10 a month, the watch will use your same number as your iPhone, you won’t get another new number. I know the guy in the video said you’ll get a new number but it’s not, it’s like a serial number that is only for the carrier to identify you, you don’t use that number at all

It should’ve, they come with their own phone number. At least, the 5’s do. However, 911 works for anything with cellular connectivity even if it’s not enabled - that’s a law. Do you possibly have a GPS only model by mistake? It would give carrier information but without connectivity. The cellular ones have a red ring around the wheel, but I don’t see that on yours. I would call your bank and have them refund you and investigate for failure to provide services.

I no someone very close to me that has an Apple Watch and it’s not cellular. She has not contacted her mobile provider but it’s seems to work perfectly. I was under the assumption that you need a plan🤷🏾‍♀️. She has only paired it with the recent updates.

Samantha Smith hi 👋🏽 The basic Apple Watch is paired with your iPhone. Meaning that when the watch and phone are together the watch Bluetooths and so if the phone rings.... it mirrors on your watch. But.. If you buy watch with a cellular plan, with or without GPS you can leave your iPhone at home and just use your watch to do everything your iPhone does. So the 3 types of watches have 3 different pricing. Mine was a top priced, GPS & Cellular But I believe everyone there was an update I would loose my cellular plan...and I would keep paying each month for that plan, not knowing because I always had my phone next to me.... so my watch was working in basic mirroring mode. 👍🏽👍🏽

On Dec. 7 I ordered my 13 year old daughter an iwatch through a so called promo for $199 with GPS & cell for what was supposed to cost $10 a month for 20 months. Basically you got the watch for free with a 20 month contract, so the $10 was for cell service that I had to pay for on a 20 month contract. After 20 months the sales bitch said i could cancel the data plan if i wanted and still use the watch via bluetooth or wifi. She then explained that by doing that i qualified to get a new iPhone 10 xr for $5 a month for 20 months because I was adding a new line.I spent over an hour making sure that minus taxes ect. that there were no more fees. I thought I was extremely thourghow and felt confident that what she was telling me was correct. I thought for that price I could get my daughter a new phone as well and sell her iphone 7+ as it was paid for and out of contract. She said all I needed to do was switch the sim card. Then she said that all new phones came with new sim cards and for me to just disregard the new sim in the new phone, so as long as it was not activated it would be like it didnt exist. I explained that I didnt need a line with the new phone and I was just gonna put her existing sim in and made it clear I didnt need new service for the new phone. She reassured that it wasnt another line and all new phones come with a sim, but as long as you dont activate it they would charge me. I'm on the road alot and have auto billing and I knew my bill of $254 was going to be somewhat higher for the first couple of months for activating the watch and a couple other 1 time fees that she had explained to me, but after that the promo would kick in and it would go back down. Long story short I didnt pay much attn. until last month when I finally realized that not only was my bill much higher but that it was not going down. So, with the virus lockdown I finally got a chance to go over my bill in detail, I found out I'm paying $25.14 for 30 months. $10 for watch access fees a month and $11 a month installment fees, the rest is taxes ect. fees. So when it's all said and done, I'll have paid $329.99 for the watch including the $10 for 30 months for service. As if that wasnt bad enough, when I got the phone I switched the sims like she said, only to find out that it was indeed a whole new line with another activation fee of $40, plus 30 installments of $20 totalling $599 for the phone, plus another $20 a month for 30months for access fees. With taxes ect.the phone alone is $44.30 a month. Now my bill is over $320 a month and I'm locked in for 30 months. Now, for the icing on the cake, just like you the watch isnt even connected to Att cell service. I literally sat and stared at my statement for almost 2 hours thinking what the f$%k just happened. I did not speak to anyone or answer my phone for 2 days in fear that if someone so much as looked a me the wrong way, I could of potentially killed them. I'm currently waiting for another con artist POS" Att service manager" to call me back. But I'm almost certain I'm screwed. They've already said that they could not track who the sales rep. was and could not pull up the call because they were strictly for training purposes. Which is an even bigger lie than the the first lie. Not only do they know exactly who the rep. was, theres a youtube video of a guy that got cut off from att during a call after being lied to and when he called back to talk to a manager, the manager said let me pull up the recorded call and listen to it real quick so I can better understand what happened. As of right now I'm not sure what I'm gonna do and I'm sure I cant post what I want to do on the internet without risk of being arrested. So, the answer to your question is, yeah, your not the only one this has happened to. Just be glad it wasnt worse. You got screwed and I got power f%&ked!

All I thought was if I could save 1 person from getting screwed it would be worth it. So thank u. That was the first time I had ever bought anything like that over the phone especially w/a contract involved. Usually I go to the store were I'm able to look over what I'm signing & have the name & card of the salesperson so I atleast have someone to hold accountable. I've been with AT&T since the early 90s when they were Cingular & always purchased in store with almost no issues w/the exception of they're so called protection plan "a hole other story" & this is how they treat you. Even worse they will start by saying, we see that your a long time loyal customer & how much they appreciate you & value you, while planning how to screw you as much as humanly possible. Then they lure u in by offering these deals online only, the deals are not valid for in store purchases. Also every retail store within a 60 mile radius were sold out of that particular watch & I was convinced I wasnt gonna find the watch period. Plus it was the only thing my daughter asked for & I was lucky to get that out of her. Usually it's a guessing game every Christmas. I honestly wouldnt believe it if it didnt happen to me personally. The money & length of the terms is bad enough. But the level of manipulation was so cold and calculated, its beyond my comprehension. It was a professional con job that I still dont believe. Plus I just posted the cliff notes, it was worse, but to much to go over. I'm not sure if I included this little tidbit of info in my original post. But I later found out that the deal she manufactured for the iphone. I didnt even quality for. There was a deal on the iphone XR if u added a knew line & had an unlimited data plan but the terms & prices were the ones I ended up with. I'm on a family share plan, I get 20 gigs a month with roll over called the family share plan. This BS offer was for existing customers with an unlimited plan. Literally the only part of the deal that was true is I did receive the watch & the phone, other then that is was all BS. I would of have rather been beatin within an inch of my life & robbed at gun point. Atleast that's a one time deal, this crap is every month for almost 3 years. It's the gift that keeps on giving. In closing nothing has been resolved & basically I've all but given up. In fact it's only gotten worse, I found out the more you call the harder they make it. They keep records of your complaint calls & give u a rating in they're system. Basically if you get screwed & try to call to fix it your rating drops down with each call. It's designed so you have to keep calling. They always say u need to talk to someone in a higher position, & all that person does is listen to your story put u on hold a little longer then the last guy, only to refer u to somebody with more authority. At this rate I should have spoken to the dam CEO of the company. I would have given up along time ago, but just about the time I stop thinking about it, I get another bill & get pissed again. So basically they're system works pretty good because I have all but accepted I got screwed & all I can do is ride it out & get a knew provider the minute my contracts are up. I’ve actually given mine away to a family member. I have told them the situation and what to watch out for. What really is the point of having a ( iPhone ) strapped to your wrists and calling it a watch . Apart they become useless together they are the same. I’m going back to my watch collection with different styles, shapes and feelings. And when someone text, calls me. I’ll use my phone in my pocket.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😊
