HNY. As you are the plastering guru. I have solid 9 inch walls on my bay window (1920s property). My question is can you use plastic internal corner beads as the metal ones that are currently there have rusted in a number of places and I don't want to replaster only to have the same problem. Many thanks.

So many times I've seen dryliners get pulled fir out of square reveals where it was square but the plasterers very rarely eye up the beads for level when they nail them on

Got the staple tip from one of your previous videos, not had any problems at all but I do tape the beads in high use areas to try and give it a bit more strength. :)

I've used staples for years never had a problem. On solid backgrounds try using white or clear silicone all purpose. Easy to clean off to.

Quick question bud, I’m a beginner, and i am working on my home only.. ive had a kind of learn as you go experience.. just wondering what would happen if you needed to remove the bead for reasons only known to myself haha, won’t it rip the plaster apart ? I know with nails i can see the tip and just shimmy it out safely!

Hi mate, good vids, thanks for uploading. Amateur question, do you find angle beads tend to protrude a bit too much? I find I end up with ski jumps on occasion when I can't get the skim thick enough. I find it easier to get a flat reveal by using stop beads but don't think they give as strong corners. Any ideas how to solve?
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. This is a good question and one of the struggles with correctly fixing corner beads. You need to make sure that the bead sits directly on the angle. If not, the left or right wing of the bead with kick up which is where the bead protrudes past the plaster. If it's in the centre then it should sit in line with either side of the wall. Hope this helps (and makes sense) 👍

I’ve seen a lot of beads cracked just up from skirting when joiners have nailed it on and on window Cills when wooden cills are fitted after . Also top of stairs is a bad bead to get knocked by other trades .the vast majority of times when I’ve been asked to sort it out the beads have been stapled on . I NEVER staple or nail beads always stick usually with drywall adhesive but sometimes with plaster . I’ve seen too many failures on other people’s work not to do it .

I'm with you Scott - if it's timber I run a few clouts in with the bead but when it's been dot and dabbed I think it's a nightmare so I just stick with staples. But yes...you definately have a point my friend 👍

Good idea Lee - I like that 👍. To be honest, nails or not, as soon as the Chippies been in and smashed his skirts down I think there's cracks regardless when it comes to plasterboard!

mickygism I can only comment on my experience and beads that are stuck on with plaster tend not to crack as much as those that are stapled

I'm with you on this one. Just posted a similar concern, but with the bead not being level, which leads to subsequent joinery issues. Seen a lot of poor bead work, and it's usually when best practice isn't followed in favour of the "that'll do" method. We call this "charitable work", because you're not getting paid to do it wrong.

I've not used the staple gun method yet just curious do the staples ever rust and show through when painted? Unless its SS staples?
@PlasteringForBeginners

Give it a go mate - it takes a bit of time to get used to it but it's good most of the time. No, I've never had any issues - I assume they have all been galvanised or as you say, made with stainless steel!

I always stick my beads with for and dab adhesive. Seen too many so called plasterers just nail there beads onto the plasterboard regardless of its level or plumb.

Any thoughts on overbeading existing wooden beads. Ive found with temp changes the wood expands and overbead bead cracks. Ive tried screws and scrim too. No luck. Way too much hassle to remove existing wooden bead as its normally embedded into wall. Thoughts please. Keep up the great vids.

Hi Blaine, what size staples are you using, I’m guessing most of the staples for that staple gun will be fine as it’s only to hold the bead until plaster sets up.

Hi mate great vid I’ve been using the same staple gun and never knew what that wheel was for it was always a bit hit and miss doing corner beads! 😂 Have you got a solution for squaring off rounded edges on old rendered walls, can you get a wider bead or something the standard stuff wouldn’t reach the edges if you know what I mean
@PlasteringForBeginners
@PlasteringForBeginners 4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate! Ha well there you go, we all learn something new everyday! I usually form a square edge with BG Bonding and when it's roughly there I stick a corner bead to the formed edge. It's a bit tricky but it's brilliant when you get the hang of it. I hope that made sense pal 👍

Fast and easy? Maybe. But if you've not checked it's square and true, then it's no good. Best practice is to fix using bonding plaster, and checking levels as it sets. If it's not square, then skirting and architrave is going to be off too.
