Applying For a Swedish Residence Permit (Married/Sambo), Sharing Our Experience | 7 Long Months

After 7 long months we finally got a decision, a positive decision!
Hannah and I will be back together in time for Christmas, our 1.5 years spent apart are finally coming to an end.
Applying for a residence permit can be a difficult and quite stressful experience. Especially with the many unknowns and long waiting times.
In this video I talk about our experience with applying for a resident permit as a married couple. Hopefully this can help you out in some way. If there's any questions just leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer it properly.

Thank you!! 7 months to get a permit, add another year on top of that with covid regulations preventing us from being together and it’s been quite a while….but it’s almost over now 🙌 Gonna be great fun creating videos together, we have some ideas 😄

Hi! I honestly don’t know. Hannah entered Sweden about 2 months after she received her decision. I think you can enter whenever you want to as long as you have the permit. But you need to spend a certain amount in Sweden to be able to renew the permit I believe. Check with migrationsverket to be sure :)

Hello! Congratulations to you guys!! My boyfriend and I have also been applying for Sambo Visa and we are facing a quite tough situation here. When we applied the visa my boyfriend was on a trial period on this job and contract with the company. would you think his job has to be on longer than 6 months contract or I would guess it would be okay if he is " working " and covering the income border-line when I have an interview.. But also I am afraid that my application might be denied if he is still on 6 months contract on his job. If you have any idea of that or have ever heard anything about that, I would love to be shared. Thank you

Hi! Sorry for not responding earlier. From what I understood when my wife applied the partner in Sweden needs to prove that he/she has a stable income that can support the both of you. If Migrationsverket judges a 6 month contract as stable I’m not sure. I’d recommend checking with them directly. Your partner would need to full fill the maintainer requirements. What they are can be found in Migrationsverkets website. Good luck!

Hey, if you’re applying for a residence permit that won’t be needed. The waiting time is long so booking a flight in advance is risky as you will not know when your case is going to be handled.

Thanks!! I believe that you need to start the application, he will then get an email regarding what he needs to do (supplying his information etc). But maybe you've already figured that out seeing that I was rather slow at responding to you question, sorry!

Hi Oliver. I have visited Sweden since I applied for the Sambo permit (I’m from the U.K.) but every time I visit I email to notify them of the dates I will be there and tell them I have flexible flight tickets (which I always do have) and can travel back to the U.K. anytime if it would help with the case, i.e. to go back for an interview for example. I’m afraid I will delay the processing by visiting… but I know I’m allowed to still visit, just not to be there when they make the decision. It’s now been 6 months since we applied, and we have heard absolutely nothing… except that they acknowledge my emails. Did your email trigger them to finally look at your case? What kind of thing did you say to trigger this?

Hi! Regarding visiting during the application progress I do not have much information. Hannah was stuck in China because of Covid during our time apart. But from what I've heard visiting should be fine with the correct Visa, but a decision cannot be made on your case while you're in Sweden. I don't think there was anything special in my emails that made them pick up our case. It's mostly just a waiting game unfortunately...best of luck!

Hi Oliver, for the Request to Conclude the Case, do you happen to know where that 6 months is based? Is that from the date the application was submitted or from the date you got a case number?

Happy for you guys been trying for 3years now just went for my interview by January but the lady was making me nervous and scared was always shouting at me madam we don't have all day here ☹😥 I hope I got better reply

hi Oliver hope you are doing well..! i just want to know its almost 9 months my wife apply for me and still i did not get any mail from migrationsverket! still not geting any interview. i am so depressed and anxious about what i need to do..! 9 months is a long time still we are not getting any info. can you please suggest what we need to do..! we request for conclude the case and they said for wait...! thanks.!

Hey! Sorry to hear that it takes such a long time for you. How Migrationsverket prioritise applications is a bit of a mystery. If you have really requested to conclude the case they either have to start working on your case within 30 days or let you know why they cannot start working on the case yet. I hope you can get more Information from them soon, best of luck and stay strong!

Hi, I didn't need to interview. They did however ask me to submit new papers proving my income (Salary pay slips) after about a month.
