Thinking about applying to fashion school in Japan? Christina shares her story of getting into Tokyo's Bunka Fashion College, the top fashion college in all of Asia!
Christina grew up in Quebec, Canada. She moved to Japan after graduating from McGill university. She's now a third year student at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, the top ranked fashion school in Japan.
In this fourth episode of "My Fashion School in Japan Story", Christina talks about finishing up Japanese language school and applying for Bunka Fashion College. She talks about the process of applying to the school, the requirements, and some of the potential pitfalls.
It's hard to answer every question in a video, so please check out the official Bunka Fashion College website after watching:
www.bunka-fc.ac.jp/en/about.html
In the next episode, Christina will talk about starting classes at Bunka and what it is like to actually attend daily classes at a fashion school in Japan, what the assignments and homework are like, exams, etc. Please check back and leave comments if there are specific things you'd like her to discuss about going to fashion college in Japan.

Hi Christina! I just want you to thank you for posting this video! I'm a graduate student from my country's university as well, and at first I thought I should have some experience in fashion design (which I am not, but I was in visual design major) to entering bunka college. But, after watching your video, I feels like I'm not alone and should go for it instead! (lol) Anyway, did you take the scholarship program from MEXT? I wish I could discuss with you about enrolling in bunka because it would be nice to get an insider insight about the college :)) Best Regards, Fransiska

+Tokyo Fashion, All I want to know is how did you pay the tuition fee. Were your parents paying for you or are you doing some job to pay and how did you manage everything like taking Japanese language classes and your food and accommodation? I really don't know because my parents are paying right now for my graduation but it will only be me who will have to pay the fee for my higher education. I am a student studying Fashion Design at Pearl Academy, New Delhi, India. I want to study in Japan for my higher education!

Because I have always been interested in fashion and I still don´t know what to do in the future :) So in that 6-7 months what kind of stuff did you all learn? Sorry for asking so much xD You would be a great help ^-^

Thanks so much for watching! :3 To be honest, most western foreigners at Bunka have English as a second language (not native), so it really shouldn't be a problem! Either way, classes are taught in Japanese, not English! It's easiest to apply from within the country, but it's still doable from abroad! :)

Love the video, it's super informative. ^^I checked out the entrance information on Bunka's site after watching this, and it all seems quite doable, except for one thing. It says, "Applicants should have a reliable guarantor living in Tokyo or its vicinity willing to care for the student during his / her stay in Japan." Well, I don't know anyone in Japan, at all. :( And even if I did, I'm pretty sure we'd have to be quite close for me to impose on them for 3 years or however long I'd be there. What did you do for that, Christina?
@ChrisFromMontreal
@ChrisFromMontreal 10 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! :3 To be honest, getting a guarantor is the trickiest part about applying to any school in Japan (not just Bunka...) I ended up asking a friend to be mine... Honestly, providing you have a good attendance record and pay your fees on time, the school should have no reason to contact your guarantor, so it isn't really a huge burden on that person. But yeah, if you don't have someone who can act as yours the best thing to do would be to contact the school directly and ask how to procede. Hope this helps! :)

Ok, I have 2 questions: 1. would you think doing 4 years of Japanese language ( like a 1,2,3,and 4) class ( in a high school) would at least get you to level 2 in the language test?
@tjjaffacake

depends on you , and how fast you can learn it everyone is different some people find it easy and are a key to learn other languages quickly where as other it's complicating and becomes a long process x

@kimthuybui9279
@kimthuybui9279 8 жыл бұрын
+Sailor Angel certainly there are several language schools which you can enroll for in Japan. But it's still advisable that you finish learning Japanese at least N2 in our home country. Cuz Japanese isnt easy to cope with at all, so learn it in your mother language will make it easier. More over, I think learning language in Japan, especially Tokyo will cost a fortune. You should consider it :)

+ilov04 you can find detail information on Bunka website. It says that particularly in the entrance exam, there will be a writing essay task which is similar to N2 level. Then you'll take a group interview. I heard that Bunka's acceptance rate is about 97% so provided that you have a good command of Japanese, dont worry anyways
