Well done Noah. I am really interested in your videos in all issues related to International Relations,, in particular, this video about applying IR theories. Iraq War 2003 one of the great examples you have chosen and it is very helpful to understand in different perspectives of IR Theories.

Hey Noah, Firstly thankyou so much for this lucid analysis of Bush's speech on Iraq invasion. What I also sense from his speech is some particles of Neoconservatism dropping off....letting the world know that it's United States' duty/responsibility to bring democracy in Iraq... please correct me if I am wrong

I really hope to see more videos applying IR theories in specific cases like this. I can understand most of your explanations here but may I ask you how we could come up with a theory or mix? For example I am studying Japan's policy towards China. I think there are both realist and liberal elements. But then my question is should it be realism and liberalism or neo-neo? I do not know if I understand correctly but now neo-neo are more applied than realism and liberalism right? Thank you!

I think--in practice--that theories provide a framework for analyzing the world. Each brings certain things into sharper focus while removing others. We can draw on elements from different theoretical approaches to understand different issues, or even the same issue in different ways. Does that make sense?

From our point of view as Iraqis, America has three goals in its war in the world. First, controlling oil, second, protecting Israel, third, preventing Iraq from occupying Arab countries to make it one Arab country that parallels the power of great countries economically and militarily And America bears responsibility for what is happening now in Iraq because it said I will unite Iraq, and so far Iraq is collapsing economically and militarily and unable to protect itself from neighboring countries and its infrastructure is very poor

This was really helpful, ty. Do you think it was Realist or Liberal thought that was more prevalent in the decision to invade Iraq? And are there any major names in the two fields that were for or against it?
@ilight84 жыл бұрын
@@NoahZerbe Thank you. I've been writing an Essay on realist and liberalist theory whilst using the example of Iraq and videos like this help to simplify the almost infinite literature on the two theories.

i think i heard John Mearsheimer mention in an interview where he and other thinkers specifically had it printed in a newspaper how the war would be bad for the us .

Huh! I think if I were to go the critical way, I'd be asking who the speech was for, and whether it was a credible source for learning the motivations behind the invasion. I guess the really hard thing when listening to a political speech is distinguishing between reasoning and rationalization. Blah! Politics! 😕
