Thanks for sharing your wood sealers and finishes👍

Good stuff. Finishes are always a bit of a learning curve to new woodturners til they find what they like that works for them.

Mike, I enjoyed our visit the other day. I always learn something.... Re: the finishing-I am always happy to add to the confusion. We watched episode 2 of the Q's Gambit. Crazy but really good. Sam

Sam, another educational video! The most important thing I have learned about lacquer is for one to learn what lacquer will and will not do. That way when a flaw occurs, one will know how to repair the finish!

Hi. Sam. I find using Ubeaut EEE burnishing cream "which I saw you using in one of your earlier videos" and Ubeaut Glow friction polish brings up a really good shine on most woods without changing the colour apart for making the grain pop, especially wood and resin combos, If I want a really high gloss I use a spray lacquer. and a food safe oil on items likely to be used with food. I like some of your DIY recipes, might save a few dollars. Very informative series.. I love the use of your Lazy Susan for spraying very ingenious.. Stay safe Thanks... Wolfgang in Australia.

Wolf, The weather here is cooling off in the evenings and early mornings. Soon it will be winter and -20º F. That means summer is coming your way. Sam

Don't get me started.....maybe in my next Notes video......2 blondes walk into a bar...... 2 blondes, a priest and a plumber were on a plane and only had one parachute. yea let me think about this. See, i'm already in trouble. Sam

That was helpful. I looked at using lacquer when I was building furniture but always found alternatives because it seemed to be more fussy and require better equipment (like a spray gun) than the alternative finishes. It looks like this is more adaptable to turned pieces.

I always enjoy your videos Sam. There is always something in them for me to learn. Up to now most of the finish I have used has been wipe on poly. I have been thinking about trying shellac. I think I will not try lacquer as I do not have the appropriate respirator. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.

Yes lacquer is nasty stuff, good point about the respirator. Sam

Great info Sam! How much do you cut the brushing lacquer from what comes in the can?

I have tried shine juice several times and have never had any luck.

Equal parts of lacquer thinner, lacquer, and boiled linseed oil. I covered it in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX_SZoRjqNJ_n6s Sam

When you brush lacquer I assume it is thin with lacquer thinner. What is the proportion of the mix?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER3 жыл бұрын
Pablo first I see that you subscribe to my channel 9 years ago. I thank you very much. Yes I do thin my lacquer down quite a bit. Not sure about the proportions however Sam

Sam another great video. What did you use to cut the brush-on lacquer? Denatured alcohol? Thanks Jack
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER3 жыл бұрын
LACQUER thinner....

Sam, have you used a tung oil / mineral spirits / poly finish?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER3 жыл бұрын
Not yet-but need to. Sam
@MikePeaceWoodturning3 жыл бұрын
I would not expect big difference between 1/3 BLO vs 1/3 Tung oil as both are drying oils.
@jeffgrzeca28273 жыл бұрын
Sam, what are your proportions for your BLO, lacquer, thinner mix?
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER3 жыл бұрын
I just start with equal parts of each. Keep in mind the lacquer thinner will evaporate a bit so you need to monitor the viscosity after a while. It can be too thick or too thin. You can always add more lacquer thinner. Sam

If you want more of the finish to soak into the wood, don’t sand to as fine a grit… maybe 220/240 max

Good point thanks Sam
