Applying New Bottom Coat On The Monterey 225!

Nice weather is final here so it's time to start working on the boat again. Prepped the bottom for a new coat of paint! All that's left is lifting the boat off the trailer so we can paint under the bunks. She's coming along, crazy how big of a difference fresh paint makes

One way to get under some of the bunks is to jack the trailer up as high as possible. Then stack blocks under the keel between the trailer crossmembers. Then lower the trailer.

I was actually just watching a video where they did that, extremely smart way of doing it that I never would’ve thought of. I actually have a buddy with an excavator so we might just throw straps under it and lift it right off the trailer. Appreciate the tip !

Drop it on the lawn jack up one side patch paint and then do other side.

Sounds like a great idea until I have to get it back up on the trailer 😂 I got a plan already, should make it much easier to complete this. I’ll have a video out on it soon!

Glad you didn’t give up! I struggled to find stuff to make videos on in the winter and then recently just moved so things were alittle delayed. So I used 1 can of rust-oleum boat bottom from Amazon. I didn’t realize how much pain I was actually going to need so then I had to buy a whole gallon from West Marine. This stuff is called CPP bottom paint.

antifouling paint on a trailer kept boat is kinda no-no, but than again - it's much easier to paint this bottom than to sand it clear and then polish to a shine.

Exactly, completely agree. Boat was kept in the water most of its life but not the plan now for me atleast. Bottom painting it was already difficult enough let alone sanding it and repolishing it lol

Yes very very true. Just ordered some new compounds for it tonight. Planning on doing some minor gel coat repairs where some chips are present then giving it a nice shine again!
