Thank you very much, Ray. Vectric has to cater to all skill levels in their tutorial videos - everyone from beginners to experienced users who just need a little bit of help finding the tools. They can't take the time to get into each concept, technique, or tool and break it down for the person who has never done this before. I try to do that, because 5 years ago, I was the guy looking for help - and still am at times. I'm not an expert - I'm just trying to help folks avoid the mistakes I've made in the past.

This was very helpful. I tried using this for a logo and designed it at 8" diameter. Everything looks fine. I reduced the size of everything to 1" diameter and the text does not carve in the simulation. What am I doing wrong?
@MarkLindsayCNC4 жыл бұрын
You're probably not doing anything wrong. The text is probably so small that the v-bit you've selected is too big to carve it. You might check out this video to see what's going on, and how you can solve the problem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHiqYayKhc6batk
@johnhall28064 жыл бұрын
@@MarkLindsayCNC Thanks for your reply. I watched the suggested video and understand the concept. However, When I reduce the size of the logo to 1" the small text does not show when running the simulation. I have tried it with 90 degree, 60 degree, and 30 degree v-bits with the same result.

Sorry for that. I'm making a sign with text wrapped at the top and at the bottom similar to what you did. I want to wrap circles around the text, top and bottom. I deleted the circle that I used to wrap the text so I would start with a clean circles. Using a 90 degree v bit. It will not carves the whole circle. It stops within an inch. Can't find a solution in the manual, maybe If I keep looking, but thought you might know the answer.

@MarkLindsayCNC6 жыл бұрын
Is the text an actual text object, or did you convert it to curves? It has to be a text object. If you've already converted it to curves, you'll have to use the Distort Selected Objects icon under Transform Objects, or delete the text and start over.

@johndeshiro2 жыл бұрын
Maybe because I drew a circle instead of 2 arcs ?
@johndeshiro2 жыл бұрын
yeah still upside down and backward
@MarkLindsayCNC2 жыл бұрын
Select the curved vector, and tap N to go into Node Editing. Look for the green point - that's your start point for that vector. Put your cursor over the point at the far left end of that vector, right click, and select Make Start Point in that menu. Tap N to come out of Node Editing and try it again. I covered this at the 6:05 time mark in this video.
@johndeshiro2 жыл бұрын
I figured it out. You have to draw two arcs from left to right, one for each line of text.

The highlighted cursor is a part of the screen capture software I use. I use a program called Flashback Express by Blueberry Software. It's got a lot of features not normally found in a free screen capture program, and I like it a lot. There is a Pro version that runs about $50, but so far I haven't run into a need for the pro version.

Thanks for another great video Mark. I am making a table top for a store in town. Well, I'm designing it at present. It will be a while before I actually build it. They are friends of mine and it's going to be a surprise. I followed along in this video and got part of the name done. The name of the store is "YORKS PARK GROCERY." I was able to put the name YORKS to fit the 30 inch circle in the top part. But when I put PARK GROCERY in the bottom half, it will only come out in really small text, not the same size as in the top of the circle. Is that normal or am I missing something? I am wanting the text to be inside the circle and not outside like you did, as the circle is going to be the actual table top. Thanks.
@MarkLindsayCNC5 жыл бұрын
If you're creating the two completely separate lines of text, you should be able to resize them independently. Keep in mind, however, the text on the bottom will get crowded at the top of the letters, so you'll need to do a bit of kerning to get them to look right.
@shelby5041110 ай бұрын
hi i have a unique issue..within aspire i know how to wrap text around a curve however i have a vector that i imported and it is letters and i want to wrap them along a curve but im not sure how
@MarkLindsayCNC10 ай бұрын
For that, you'll need to use the Distort Tool. As you've discovered, applying text to a curve only works with text objects. It won't work with vectors. What you'll need to do is draw the curve you want the text vectors to follow, position it where you want the text to be, put the text in that same location, then use the Distort Tool to distort the text above that curve, or between two curves. Here's a link to my two videos on how to use the Distort Tool. (I'd check out the first one first.) I hope they help! kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4O3moSfr9eUj5o or kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZnCaYCfic93nbM

Everything was good up to opening up the Curve on a text bar. It will not light up/open up, so I can not make any changes to be able to curve the text.
@MarkLindsayCNC4 жыл бұрын
If the text has been converted to curves, it's no longer a text object and the tools used to curve the text will not work. Check out my video on using the Distort Tool. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4O3moSfr9eUj5o

@JohnSmith-bm8xb8 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you set a depth when carving the text?
@MarkLindsayCNC8 жыл бұрын
In v-carving text, the depth of cut is dictated by the angle of the bit and the width of the letters. In this example, I wanted the bit to be free to plunge as deeply as it needed to go in order to carve the letters in one pass. I could have set a flat depth if I only wanted the letters cut, for example, .125" deep. I didn't have that restriction, so I left the flat depth blank and let the software calculate the depth of cut.
@JohnSmith-bm8xb8 жыл бұрын
I guess I don't know enough about v-carving to understand what you are taking about. I just started my build on a 48x48 Garageworx cnc. I do want to do a lot of v-carving, so back to u-tube. I got my edge finder from Bill Briggs can't wait for you to do the video on this setup.
