that dagger one looks like someone who bought a machine online and is doing work out their basement for suuuuure. there is no way a mentor in a tattoo shop would allow this I feel like LOL

I wonder if he did it on himself there is no way when/if he removed the stencil a client would be like that’s perfect, option 2 he did it freehand or lost the stencil lines completely using cheap stencil paper and speed stick. We all know tattoo artists can have a bit of an ego top tier artists still are not going to do anything 100% freehand that’s too much risk to their reputation if they screw up.

I got a tattoo from an apprentice 3ish years ago. Her art was always gorgeous and her tattooing was pretty solid when I got mine but it’s been really amazing just to see her go from those smaller palm sized pieces to these absolutely stunning large pieces. I’ve moved cities since so I just admire from afar on Instagram but I’m hoping to take a trip back and have her do another piece. I’d love to see more of these apprentice episodes, as well, if you’re still doing the series, to have follow ups submitted from them in a year or more to see how they’ve progressed in their tattoo skills🙂

Very solid critiques. I hope to goodness that dagger was caught by the master and didn’t walk out a shop. A good apprenticeship is under rated

I'd like to think the dagger through the skin tattoo was actually drawn by a small child for his dad and the artist made it look EXACTLY like the child's drawing. Now that dad can always carry his kids artwork with him.
@Glenn-F-Rice Жыл бұрын
Ive seen crayon drawings by children that have passed away. Dads recreate them on their side. Thats a nice touch
@shadowheartart3898 Жыл бұрын
That was my thought too. A much sweeter head-canon. Especially since that person said they had been working for over a year If that was the case though, wouldn't the sender mention that?
@Captain_Yodelstein Жыл бұрын
@shadowheartart3898 , the artist could have mentioned it was recreation of a child's drawing, and Pony just decided to keep that bit of info out of the video... or the artist just sucks at drawing and tattooing. The world may never know.

I’m wondering if the dagger was meant to look like a kid’s drawing. If not, I wonder what the tattooer meant when he wrote in that he’s been tattooing since 2020. Does he mean he’s been an apprentice for 3 years? Does he mean he’s been scratching friends at parties for 3 years and is now an apprentice?

I actually like the leaves on the first tattoo. I live in the south and they look like the fig trees we had in our yard growing up. Figs have strange, ancient looking leaves so I see why you thought they were strange. To me however they are familiar and pleasing

Submit please! I’m not a tattoo artist, but I do work with art using more ‘traditional’ mediums. We can get so caught up in our own work that we can’t see the forest for the trees. It can make the absolute world of difference to see your work through the fresh eyes of an experienced professional. If you don’t put your art out there for people to critique, then it’s very difficult to work on the areas that might need attention. On the plus side, if you are already self-critiquing your own work, then it means that you are constantly seeing room for improvement. That means that you are actually able to zero-in on the areas you know need more work for your next piece. But what about the areas that may need more practice that you aren’t seeing? If you don’t open the door to criticism, then you allow your skills to plateau in that area. Every episode I have seen here has been frank and to the point. I personally really wish I had received this sort of feedback when I was a lot younger! I wouldn’t have spent so long correcting bad habits and spent more time truly improving as an artist in general. I think I would be much better now if I had this sort of resource available to me.
