I love, love, love this site. I never realized it was so easy to find documents and information. Last time I logged into the site was in the 90s when it first started. One thing I would love to have is a follow button like on other social media sites. That way when we find people who have good information on their trees we would have easy access. They encourage reaching out to people and that would make it easier. There is a lady who made a comment on someone else's tree who was willing to share info on one of our family members who was not on her tree. Thanks

I really want to know how to get rid of incorrect DNA circles.... it's driving me crazy. I wrote everyone in the Dna circle with the incorrect ancestor in their tree but no one seems to want to fix their tree. I wish I could hide or delete DNA circles I know are not my ancestors

In Scotland in the early 20th c you had to pay for an entry ,I do not know if it applied across the board. I know where my grandparents lived for 40 years, they also ran a small business for a few years . None of this appears in any directories.

I've noticed that some people have been getting ancestry DNA results with new and different regions. When will this be available for everyone? It would be great if someone can tell me

The regions currently available in the AncestryDNA Story are available to everyone if their DNA shows that they are connected to that region.

Am I able to buy the family tree maker 2017 the newest version on amazon.com? I see it is on there however I want to make sure this is the same program so that I may be able to convert my tree from my tree on ancestry.com.

I don't believe FTM 2017 is sold on Amazon. You can buy it directly from the software company here: www.mackiev.com/ftm/

For adopted relatives who had their names completely changed, is it better to list their birth name or adopted name as the preferred name? People might have opinions on this from a personal preference, but which would be better from a data algorithm standpoint, like for DNA matches?
@crocodile20101
@crocodile20101 6 жыл бұрын

Information about living people is automatically privatized, so for them, it is entirely up to you which name you want as the preferred name and which one you want as the alternate. For adoptees who are deceased, I would make the preferred/primary name the same as the preferred/primary parents. So, for example, if you make the biological parents the preferred parents (which you should do if the tree is attached to a DNA test) then you should enter the birth name. Hope that makes sense. (~Crista)

Thank you; this answers my question exactly. If they were adopted as children and lived their whole adult lives with their adopted names, it does seem a little weird to use their birth name as preferred, but what you're saying makes sense. Currently I have their adopted names as preferred, as that's' what they were known by. So the males' surnames match their children, but they don't match their biological father (even though I have their biological parents as the preferred relationship). If that makes sense.

Can you make a video explaining the New format of the DNA Results. When you go to the all Regions and open the Sup Regions. like for an example I have 62% Europe West I opened that and it says no connection with each Sub Regions under it. We need this explain in a video. I was told it meant that it wasn't connected to our tree until we add a person from that area. I'm just saying that this is confusing a video would be helpful thank you sign Wendy C McNees born Webb

Jameria Henderson Yes, it updates continually. If you don't see new matches, that just means no one related to you has also tested. Also new matches could be lower matches so try clicking on the "new" matches button to see who has been added by date not by cousin relation.

Some times you have to enter your family tree info back several generations before this shows up for me it was my great great grandparents ( I'm over 40 % British) keep digging and go with the suggested parents you may get then look for those names in the DNA match list

I just received my DNA results and my Native American Ancestry didn’t show up but it said that I was 1 percent African . How far back would I go to have 1 percent African? It was very broad it just said Northern Africa . Also my grandsons grandmother was a hopi Indian on his fathers side ,and it didn’t show up in his DNA either . It said that he had I percent African .

Beverly Inkster You have to remember it was more socially advantageous and sometimes a matter of life or death to pass or claim any other ethnicity than Black/African American. If you have older living relatives you may want to explore the possibility of your family doing that to survive. If they even know.

Why can''t DNA alone find relitives/ blood line/ lost family????
@abcw114
@abcw114 6 жыл бұрын
Jessica Salas DNA can determine if you're related to someone, but can't give you your family tree. If we were both raised by wolves, knowing nothing of our ancestry, determining through DNA that we're related wouldn't tell us how. We wouldn't have family trees for any context. We'd only know we shared an ancestor without any idea who. DNA works to solve adoptions, NPEs, and brick walls because others in the database know who their ancestors are. Some people have to do genealogy for the DNA matching and the rest to really mean something. The more people who do their family trees, the more successful matching will be. Maybe one day there will be enough data points that DNA companies will be able to tell us who some of our ancestors are. But that still depends on us right now doing that research, otherwise DNA companies only know that we're connected and not how.

Thank you. You made that so clear. So someday it will be easier to find family. My Ecuadorian family/bloodline hates sharing. They are so close minded. I know nothing. Again Thanks for helping me understand better.

I was always told that a very famous person is related to me. We have done the DNA test and not sure how to locate this person. How are we able to find out if this is true since this celebrity has past away?
@AncestryUS
@AncestryUS 6 жыл бұрын
Build a family tree. Start with yourself. Add your parents and grandparents. Look for information about your great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents. Then compare that tree with the family trees of your DNA Matches. That will show you how you are connected to them. If you are related to this celebrity, it should become pretty apparent based on your family tree and your DNA matches. Does that make sense?
