I have never known such appalling service than I now suffer from my GP practice. Face to face appointments are virtually unavailable. I have never met any of my last 4 " nominated " Doctors. In 2007 I survived bowel cancer due to prompt attention - I would now die in the same circumstances.

10 years ago I was out walking and felt a bit off so I returned home stopping on the way. For the next three days I still felt a bit off so I walked into the waiting room of my local GP Surgery. After waiting my turn I walked into the GP's room and told him how I felt, he replied by saying that I'd had a heart attack and was all for dialing 999 there and then but I said that my car was parked outside. He said drive home carefully then dial 999 which I did. After tests my heart attack was confirmed and two weeks later I had a heart triple bypass. If it happened today I would have to fill a GP online form and wait for several days/weeks for a GP to phone me. By then I would probably be dead!

I turned up at my doctor's surgery to make an appointment, and the receptionist told me that the only way to make an appointment now is online. I said to her that as I am actually here could she not do it for me, she said "No" and repeated that I had to go home and do it online. Which I reluctantly did (and what a palava that was!) I have been saying this to my surgery for years. Every time I went, I saw a different doctor who asks ' what can I do for you today. Being the first time they have seen me, they have no idea about my medical needs. Plus there are not enough doctors to operate this scheme.
@993Redveg
@993Redveg Күн бұрын
There are also "advanced practitioners". Basically nurses, and if you are not VERY observant, the surgery will try to book you in with one of these people. Beware. They have a maximum of two years training, unlike qualified doctors who train for a minimum of six years. But with the surgeries run by "healthcare" companies contracted to the NHS, maximisation of profit is the name of the game. These glorified nurses are cheaper to hire than real doctors. Always be one step ahead and ask, "Is this person a qualified doctor?", if you have any suspicion that they are not, and insist on your RIGHT to see a fully qualified medical practitioner.

I totally agree, it's the NHS admin that's mostly to blame. I hear all sorts of stories of appointment mix-ups as you describe, and even a friend went for an appointment at one hospital and was told when she got there that her appointment was actually in another hospital in another town! She showed them the letter she had that clearly stated that the appointment was at that hospital she'd turned up at, they just apologised, and of course she missed her appointment at the other hospital and had to start all over again! It's no wonder we've all got high blood pressure!

These 'rule changes' will make no difference - it will still be next to impossible to get a face-to-face appointment with a GP, Whoever it was in the NHS/Department of Health and Social Care that thought that patients should not be allowed to book an appointment ahead of time and only be allowed to try to book an appointment on the day must have been out of their tiny minds, everything was fine from the patients POV until they amalgamated ALL of the towns practices at the back end of 2019, since then I've only been able to get an appointment to see a GP ONCE and that was a rushed affair.

Our local practice was graded as the fifth worst in the county, how on earth there are four worse than that beggars belief. Recent experiences have left the impression that the Doctors simply want to fob you off and show little concern for your problems, my daughter had a just such an experience this week. A patient exited a consulting room in tears, muttering “ that was a waste of time”. My daughter went in next and was then told that the treatment she was given previously at the drop in centre she had to use (as she could not get an appointment) was wrong. Given that the visit to the drop in centre prior to that a couple of months ago resulted in her being rushed to A and E with extremely advanced symptoms for sepsis shows that they were doing a good job. All in all, a wasted visit, the general consensus within our village is that the practice is absolutely woeful. They should get paid only for each in person consultation carried out, any telephone or zoom type consultations should not be paid for.

It’s about time Doctors got off their backsides and did the job they are paid to do they always seem to be missing the majority of them in the surgery. The nurse practitioners do a better job more Thoroughly than the Doctors they seem have a better knowledge than most Doctors of today as they are learning new technology and new medicines. Some doctors take on private patience where they have to pay to see the doctor Private. well done to all the advanced nurse practitioners you’re doing an excellent job thank you.

Then I found it was almost impossible to access that GP when I needed care even though I would attempt to make appointments up to 4 or more weeks ahead. My own interpretation of this poor situation is that 1] more GP’s are needed and 2) that the excessive documentation required by the Health Dept. takes up way too much time. A 10 minute appointment once or twice a year is not adequate for someone my age.

GP' s HOLD YOUR PURSE STRINGS and do not like spending your money as it goes towards the end of year bonus for them ? other wise why do they send you for a blood test 18 miles round trip , twice and stand in a queue for an hour ? and the Nurse ask ? who sent you here , ? MY GP I replied , well they should have carried this out at the Practice ? Any problems now they send you to A&E TO wait 12 hours , to off load you ?

All those pictures of people with full heads of grey hair, all very fair skinned. Do these changes only apply to people who look like that? Also, did you have to let a computer read this out loud? I was born in this country 76 years ago and I don't remember seeing so many people in one place all looking like that.

It is ridiculous trying to sell that this as beneficial for seniors. Can you see a 75-80 year old with limited mobility or mental capacity being able to phone and discuss and understand what is said, if you put on top of the normal ageing decline an illness and without seeing the patient you are putting those vulnerable people at higher risk. They need to go back to community nurses. Digital training? What idiot thought this out?

My friend broke her leg at work. In the hospital they screwed this up, it didn't heal properly, she couldn't walk and she was in a constant awful pain. Finally she got an appointment to find out what her pain level is: yes, she had to wait 6 months for that appointment.

Yeah and they will grab all your personal data to share among their paying partners for you data too ! Lets see if the UK Gov tries to push Phone Apps rather than OnLine Website booking etc which are much more secure if using a secure PC with a secure Web Browser - This obviously excludes Windows and Edge etc but Linux and a secure browser are perfect. Just remember Google etc wants your data and to share its for its own profit driven health data analytics !

What a load of American twaddle. We don't have American "seniors" we have British "pensioners", I should know - I am one of them. Where are all of these GPs going to come from? What happens when Trump starts forcing the UK to sell him the NHS? He tried it last term and will do it again this one.

My doctors apparently work remotely. The waiting room on a Monday at 9am was empty. Crazy when you think back not that long ago you could see your doctor to discuss your health problems rather than try to explain them over the phone. I am concerned that someone will be miss diagnosed. Unacceptable.

I have this dream where each practice has a ‘geriatric’ nurse. You see the same nurse for your vaccinations and blood pressure checks etc along with long term condition follow ups. This nurse would have just a little lager with the patient, able to get to know them and be aware if they are looking undernourished, living in poor conditions etc and needing home help services. The nurse would be able to connect the patient with other services, not just by ‘call these people’ but by introduction and helping explain needs. Obviously the nurse has direct access to the doctor, the nurse explains concerns for the patient to the doctor saving lots of repeated questions etc. as I say, a dream!

First : Why did they merge a few clinic to gather, I have never understood it , it doesn’t make sense. 2: now days you go to the practice & it’s empty, what is the reason? Cause people can’t get appointment or there are not enough GPS ? Or a combination of two. The family GP like the olden time is the best

Sadly none of this makes any difference without a lot more GPs. There have been plans in place for over 10 yrs to achieve this, in that time the number of GPs has fallen. From qualifying as a doctor it takes another 5-10years to do the extra training needed to be a GP. The job is impossible so new doctors don’t want to do it, everyone has a go at established GPs for being lazy so they retire early. Full time in general practice is 60-80 hours so those doing just 50hrs get criticised for being part time

Dundee medical health Centre is really nice, I'm partially Disabled and can get an appointment same day no matter what time I call,I ask to see only one doctor who cares,dr hunter, but I'm upset older people don't get proper care and immediate attention,but I've got to also go to chiropractor as the pathetic doctors and neurologist say they can't help with other problems,what a lot of crap some docs say they cant help,so I save to see some private docs that helps me so much.

This whole presentation tries to convey the message that the NHS cares about seniors, it babbles on but in no way gives a step by step description that shows what a patient would have to do when they need a doctor or have any kind of medical situation. The best way to get the correct procedure would be to go to the surgery and collect a pamphlet that it explains everything clearly. That’s if they even have such a thing to start with. Knowing the abysmal service at most surgeries they probably don’t.

Clearly, some commenting here needs to get a grip. We do have a government. If it were tories, then we would not , we have an nhs all, be it in tatters, thanks the last tory dictatorship. Many surgeries have had an online form for a while now. There is a workaround for those who need it.
