April Fools 2011: Complex Numbers in Math Class

Yesterday afternoon I did another video trick for my Nature of Math class at Biola University. What's the difference between the real and the imaginary? Can an imaginary person (like a person in a KZbin video) do something outside the confines of a video box?

Thanks again to Andrew Staver who did most of the work on this video. He's graduating this semester with a degree in Film Production from the Cinema and Media Arts department.

Matthew Weavers, I made the crtl+W as you instructed me to. I trusted you because you are in a position of trust as a complex maths teacher. All of my homework was in a pasted into the URL bar because I needed somewhere to dump it quickly so I could copy a picture of a cat to send to Gemma. Because I trusted you, from your position of academia, I discovered crtl+W CLOSES the active tab and I LOST all of my homework, which was in the URL bar due to the necessity of the cat issue. Are you going to redo my homework for me, Matthew Weavers? Because someone is gona hafta and I don't see why that should be me.

Math is all about finding a use for it :) If you find it, and are able to connect it to something, it ends up being ... rather easy. Having fun while learning it is key as well :) So great job mr. teacher.

To everyone who thinks this is a simple issue for University, Complex numbers, and every other math sub division for that matter, was taught in high school however it does not go away one you leave, it is taught and used a lot of different places getting more complex as it goes further..... at university you will use complex numbers in a very different way to when you did at high school
