IF IT HAS MOSFETS IN THE MUTIMETER THIS COULD EFFECT THESE MEASUREMENTS, BECAUSE OF THE CHARGE FIELD BUILD UP IN THE PLASMA DISC.

Only it the gate of the MOSFET would be floating and only if it woud be a static (DC) electric field. Both conditions are not met here.

Hmm, the only thing I know in electronics that has just one wire is..... I won't say just now :)

I'm no expert by any means but I'm guessing the electrons just "wander" in the surrounding air and give it an electro-static charge.
