The topic for that day in class was basic trigonometry, we only do one day of trig, and the rest of the class is a broad overview of other areas of mathematics (algebra, probability, statistics, history of math, even one day about calculus). But I get your general point: it would be better if we could assume that high schools were teaching all high school students more math.

Matthew Weathers Awesome prank haha. I'm curious by the way, do you put a lot of emphasis on the unit circle in explaining trig? I feel like college students would have a better feel for trig if they kept in mind that the trig signs were a result of the cathetus being a negative or positive x or y component divided by the magnitude of the hypotenuse of 1. I think it also helps teaching the sin to cos conversions. I'm just throwing ideas out there, hope I don't come off as rude (I'm not actually a Dr. for the record :)

***** cathetus is one thing, but correlating the circle with trig i think is the most important. It connects so many things from the theoretical to reality. And is a big help when learning the more advanced stuff. The circle is love, the circle is life.

whybother929 I'm wondering if it's the program in which you have a timed response for each question (let's say 60 seconds) in which you have to send a response to a number. On the screen, you see a bar graph of each multiple choice option and, in real time as people send in their answers, the bars grow and grow. You can see the bars compete with each other as they grow next to each other, unless everyone chooses one answer :) I've done that in my Early History of Israel class at Biola...but I am unsure how that works in a math course....
