Genocide survivor Emmanuel Rugema, recounts in heart-breaking detail, his battle to reach the safety of the Democratic Republic of Congo in April 1994, after he, his family and other Tutsis were targetted by Rwanda's Hutu killers.
In this powerful tale of individual courage, organised terror and human savagery, Rugema traces a bloodied path from the start of the massacres in his home town. He reveals the last moment that he saw his father, how he watched as his mother and sister were hacked to death and how eventually, the Hutu 'angel' Colette came to his rescue.

I love this man so much, his life’s story broke me. My heart is melted into a puddle on the floor. I am so extremely sorry to you, my brother in humanity. I’m sorry that my country stood by and wouldn’t intervene to save your people. I am truly ashamed. Please forgive us - The United States.

Forgiveness for such atrocities does not come in one paragraph. It comes from the system that did nothing to stop it. You can help in many ways now. The women and children of Darfur are in need.

Lord Jesus, we can only do so much to help the victims of this genocide find peace. Only you Holy Spirit our comforter can heal them the best way only you know how to. Please give them peace, heal their invisible wounds that only you can see and give them hope. To all the victims of the Rwandan genocide, I am sending you love and hugs and prayers. Please find rest in this scripture in John 14: 27 which says and i quote, " Peace, I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, I do not give as the world giveth." May you find that type of peace only God Almighty can give, the only type of peace that transcends all human understanding. Love from your African sister all the way from Zimbabwe.

The Rwandan Genocide is likened to a flashback in history of how mass human trafficking (six hundred million) of Moors were captured on behalf of the colonizers by their own brothers and sisters. Despite immense wealth and land resources they are unwilling to share with their own brethren. It's amazing how despite the stark resemblance to each other these people have an intricate tribal system that allows for distinguishing one from another in times of conflict, and how this is easily manipulated by European forces. Example, lets give guns and money to our favorite tribe! That we may have access to that gold mine that village is sitting on, over there!!!

@@adelegatimbirizo7696 Where did you get the idea that you have to live in a country to learn or know its history? At school, we study the Second World War, however, the majority of us have not experienced it. Do you even know how a scientist or history works? How does being of such or such a nationality allow you to discredit your work? Are all the many official documents contained in the books of Messrs Ngbanda, Charles Onana, Patrick Mbeko, Yaa-Lengi Ngemi, the late Pierre Péan, Mrs. Judi River are forgery? Is the Mapping Report documenting the abuses in Eastern Congo also a forgery? Are the UN reports also false? Do you know why all these organizations document all these abuses? It is to better clear customs tomorrow, and to say that those responsible are the bloody regimes of Paul Kagame and Museveni, which is not untrue, since on the ground, they are the ones who perform the bass works. Why did Paul Kagame even prosecute the Tutsis who worked with him and decided to denounce his crimes even in foreign countries? Tutsi were the one committing a crime on Hutus and shamelessly crying when they’re the perpetrators. You see kid ... only losers celebrate mediocrity and have a sad need to convince themselves that someone is even worse off than them

Of course, it’s unfortunate that his ethnic Tutsi minority holds all key positions in Rwanda, repressing the overwhelming majority ethnic Hutu in a black-on-black version of apartheid, and some Hutu are denied basic rights. Paul Kagame ordered the killing of approximately 350,000 ethnic Hutu, in Rwanda and Congo, in the 1990s. This puts him in the pantheon of post-WWII murderers, alongside Pol Pot and Idi Amin. By treating him as a valued ally, do you dishonor his victims? Do we violate the Genocide Convention? Do we encourage repetition of such crimes? he led a Tutsi invasion of Rwanda that displaced a million civilians and knowingly provoked the retaliatory carnage for which Rwanda is most famous. In 1994, as his forces seized control of Rwanda, they slaughtered an estimated 100,000 Hutu civilians. After many surviving Hutu fled to Congo, he pursued them in 1996, murdering another 200,000. When remaining domestic Hutu resisted his ethnic dictatorship in 1998, he ordered a brutal counterinsurgency that killed 50,000 more. Kagame typically started by chasing Hutu civilians into harsh territory. As his victims confronted starvation and hunger, his officials would come forward with offers of humanitarian aid. When the desperate Hutu had fully assembled, his troops opened fire and killed them all. Why do we treat war criminals so disparately? In Libya, Muammar Khaddafy’s forces killed barely 1,000 people in February 2011, including armed opponents, according to judicial investigations. This equates to approximately one-third of one percent of Kagame’s victims. By contrast, Kagame is rewarded with honorary degrees and hundreds of millions in annual foreign aid. Kagame has proved anything but a force for stability. He invaded Congo twice, spurring wars that resulted in an estimated 5 million fatalities. He continues to undermine democracy by hunting opponents and overriding term limits. Most perilously, he marginalizes Rwanda’s Hutu majority, brewing the next eruption of ethnic violence. Kagame should be banned from entering the United States or participating in international fora. Humanitarian aid should continue, but other assistance should be curtailed now until he leaves office. Rwanda is a brutal, totalitarian surveillance state. Kagame and his ruling party run a brutal, totalitarian, U.S.-backed regime with the ninth-highest per capita incarceration rate in the world. Many Rwandan prisoners are convicted of speech crime-daring to disagree with the government’s legally enforced description of Rwanda’s 1994 massacres as “genocide against the Tutsi.” lmfao Rwanda is a success country to minority who almost owned everything in Rwanda. There’s still poverty in Kigali and majority are poor while minority are living in luxury houses. A majority of Rwandans still live on less than 50 cents per $1.25. Rwanda does not have oil deposits or other major natural resources. President Paul Kagame’s government has bet on economic growth based on looting, stealing, killing, etc to create new employment. President Kagame is a war criminal with the blood of millions of his “African brothers and sisters” in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo on his hands. he led Ugandan troops invading Rwanda. Many of them were the children of the Rwandan Tutsi minority who had fled the country during the 1960s after the Hutu majority came to power. Kagame’s army overthrew the Rwandan government and established a de facto Tutsi dictatorship, which falsely claims to have ended competition between the Hutu and Tutsi. They massacred hundreds of thousands of Rwandan refugees, expelled one president, assassinated another, massacred Congolese people and drove them from their homes to plunder their resources. after the death of more than 6 million Congolese, parts of the country remain under de facto occupation by Rwanda. Rwandans have become officers in the Congolese army, and many Congolese believe that Congo’s president, Joseph Kabila, is himself a Rwandan Tutsi. Kabila recruited M23 militia men from Rwanda to suppress Congolese protests of his refusal to hold an election and relinquish power. Sixty-four protesters were killed and many more injured. Rwandan-backed rebels recently took Goma (under American protection), the biggest city in the eastern part of the DR Congo, Paul Kagame had every reason to think the world would give him a pass. That, after all, has been the pattern for years. Paul kagame enjoys some extraordinary backing in the West-support that is particularly remarkable given his alleged hand in ongoing regional conflicts believed to have killed more than 10 million people since the mid-’90s.
