Sounds like an amazing trip! Zion is on my bucket list for sure. I def get the "Wyoming" thing - as an East Coaster (US) there is something so liberating (and almost sci-fi alien!) about those vast empty spaces.

The ‘unreliable memory’ synopsis is a great fun way of summarising books - I don’t know (most of) them at all so I have no idea how accurate your recollection is either! I have read the “…Time War” book though. Oooo, hang on, forerunner technology in “Kenai”? My interest levels just peaked 📈 That premise is one of my favourite tropes in SF. Road trip sounds like you covered all the bases from 🏔️ to 🌨️ 😯
