sorry no footage no camera man but it's done I ended up adjusting six out of the eight valves to get the perfect clearance in the middle of the range.
It's not as hard as I thought it would be to do as long as you lock the crank as shown in previous videos and align the EX and INT cams and there're some centre dots on the gearing for the balancer shaft to align with.
On the front cylinder I left one cam on and didn't touch the tensioner I hope this brief explanation helps people .

Cheers fella, my apprehension is somewhat settled.. Lets see how i get on.. I’ll have to get the manual warmed up! Whats the reason you didn’t go for loosening them all,,, so they can have room to tighten across the full range ( tightening to max spec), why leave them in the middle? Wheel bearings are due around now😀

I just thought the middle of the road with the clearances .152 on intake and .252 on exhaust all eight .I did also speak with a ex bmw mechanic who use to do the shims on the S54 M3 engines (E46 type ) and they were told to put the clearance in the middle to allow for expansion with heat . As far as doing the work it is a rewarding job and as long as you lock the crank you can not get it wrong . The gearing for the balancer is all centre dotted the cam wheels are marked you know what angle the cams should be.Just make sure you have enough shims I brought the 84 piece kit in the end . Great stuff and well done. Would I be right in saying the replacement shims are ‘thinner’ to increase the valve seat gap? I’ll be manually honing them to refit, using the diamond stone method I mentioned earlier!

@@pardonwhat yes to make the clearance bigger they need to be smaller if it helps the range of shims I used were from 2.65mm 2.70mm and 2.75mm range if that helps. I used the formula in the workshop manual to calculate the shims required.

FYI I’m in a bit of an electrical nightmare at the mo.. I believe I found a dry joint on the dash cct board (an IC leg that had been previously resoldered, IC looks as thought some one replaced it or took the old one off and put it back again.. Either way the board looks like it has had more visits than a ……insert comment :.) The dash looks to be working ok now but the engine won’t run more than a second, so i’ll need to fix it before I add more changes to the mix.. At this rate it’ll be the classic TT before its ready!! All fun though, I think!

There is a guy I know who might still do capo dash repairs if you can't repair it. And another guy in Italy bit extreme on the aprilia forum called MCR I think 🤔
