Aprilia Mille Steering Stem Bearings Install and Removal Part 4 Of Mini Series

Here is a detailed video of removing and installing the all balls steering stem bearings on a 2001 aprilia mille. The part number for the all balls steering bearings are 22-1039-ST_DSA-3. These are a cheap replacement over factory but require more work to install. Any comments feel free to leave below. I will be rebuilding the front end of my mille over the next couple videos and want to document the work so everyone else that needs this information can see how I am repairing this style of bike. If your not sure you want to use the all balls steering bearing buy the factory oem bearings this is a cheaper alternative. If you have done this kind of stuff leave a comment so other people that may watch this video have a little more insight to do there own repairs.

Triple Tree Nut 14mm Torque specs is 100nm=74ft lbs
Steering stem head nut finger tight and then turn 1/4 turn.

Which tool is that im adsuming the headbearing nut tool. No i didnt i tightened to spec from oem manual with a screw driver and hammer method. Worked just fine.

23 minutes of watching you do the job only to torque the bearing WRONG. The lower nut is installed first and torqued to spec, not hammered into place. The top nut, or Jam nut, is then installed and tightened until the tabs can be bent into position. Never install both nuts at the same time. That is what the previous mechanic did that led to loose bearings. Also, you didn't include how you pressed the races into place. If you used the bearings themselves and just torqued the races in, you've just started a flat spot on those bearings. I'm not here trying to break balls, but as a professional, I have to point out the potential issues I see. Go online and download a pdf of the tech manual, you'll thank yourself later. Cheers.

Over 15000 miles logged on that bike never had a issue after I did this. I'm not a professional by any means, and haven't had any issues with any work Ive done on these bikes. Your right drive first nutt to torque spec then run second but and back it off and set tabs not a big deal what I did but your right.
