Perfect. I was looking for a dedicated track bike and this is the comparison I was wanting. There is a R6 down the street new I can buy or the RS660. One nice thing about the R6 is there is every type of aftermarket goodies for it already like race bodywork, rearsets, exhaust etc. I did see MotoD just email a lot of RS660 stuff, but not sure if track fairing is out yet. Thanks for the video!

Great video, and I really enjoyed the review, but... Maybe you did it off camera, but I didn't see you get on the RS660 at all really, other then a couple of low rpm, light acceleration pulls. Then you get on the R6 and go WOT multiple times and say how much faster it feels lol. I know the R6 is faster, but the RS660 still runs a very respectable 11.2 @ 124 mph in the 1/4 mile & goes from 0-60 mph in the very low 3's. Like I said, maybe you did more pulls with the RS660 off camera? I still gave your video a like because it was excellent! 👍

Love videos like this since for forever I had my heart set on upgrading to a proper sportbike, but now with the arrival of the RS 660 I think am going that way. The thing is, the RS 660 IMO is the beginning of a new segment of motorbikes. One that caters to the crowd that wants a sportbike experience, but done more practically AND without the lame duck type styling of bikes like the Ninja 650 or CBR 650R for example!

Also it depends how your country sees sports bikes vs sport tourers Where I live R6 is seen a "dangerous" bike vs the RS660 so insurance, licensing etc. is a huge difference. I went with the RS660 also because of that I mean its probably why a lot of bike compagnies are ditching real sports 600s :/
@PetroHead7 ай бұрын
The R6 is just as dangerous as any other bike. The types of riders who buy an R6 vs Aprilia is where the danger lies. The R6 has always been a risky blue collar type squid bike and I’m sure you know what kind of riders those are. They are also extremely valuable in resale market so they get stolen a lot. This is the main reason for the insurance / cost increase. Otherwise.. amazing bike.. R6 all day!

I had an FZ07 and switched to R6 after riding it. The smoothness, precision and handling of R6 is phenomenal. FZ07 is still an amazing bike that I take for a ride from time to time, but it's lacking in terms of handling. RS660 looks like a perfect middle between those 2. You still get a fun engine thats made for the city and commuting, but you also get the electronics and handling of a sportbike. 650 class didnt really make sense for me as naked 7s do almost everything just a little better and the trade off for the wind is barely noticeable

The R6 is not being imported anymore, anywhere. Poor sales, power only if you rev it to the moon. Same for torque. It was great 10-15 years ago, nowadays it doesn't make much sense anymore. On a twisty road, a RS660 would eat any R6 alive.

You do have a point (to a degree).. Back when the R6 was hot.. men were hairy chested risk takers.. now most men 30 and under live in mom/dads basement and hardly do anything exciting except hang out on Reddit forums. Motorcycling in general has gone down hill. Thus, the RS 660 is there to keep the flame of sportbikes still lit for enthusiasts in a pretty manageable and non-threatening package. PS: $200 ECU flash + exhaust and the R6 will gain 10-15HP and from 1-16k rpm zero loss in power.. ask me how I know 😉

Yup,660 makes more torque and has better low to mid range. R6 is gutless below 10,000 rpm. 660 is cheaper new than most used R6 with them not being made anymore. 660 has a slew of electronics for the price.
@cv790011 ай бұрын
agree, comparing a modded R6 to a stock rs660 makes no sense. stock to stock the rs660 produces more torque. furthermore for anyone wanting to take a bike to the track and wants electronics as a safety net, the R6 is not the bike to get. But the mystique of saying you own a bike that is no longer being produced has its merit but unfortunately also says a lot about Yamaha's belief in the future of the model.

He did not try to understand the question WHY people are asking these questions. I felt insulted when he said gs750, i mean come on of course that is a TOTALLY different bike. Unfortunately, the product does not chose the competition. The market decides if the aprilia is seen as competitor to the R6 the Aprillia will struggle. If the Aprillia is seen as a competitor to the CBR650R and the soon to come RC490 (the beginner to intermediate level of rider) the Aprillia could do very well. Truthfully, Aprillia should have made a 400-500cc bike to make sure it does not compete with the racing bikes

No 600cc stock engine ever produced torque in the high forties, never mind high fifties, especially no R6 . The less powerful Aprilia would have more tourque across the rpm range at the expence of smaller rev range due to the bigger pistons by 120%. Cheers.
@PetroHead3 жыл бұрын
Since you're only speculating, let me give you some pointers as well. My R6 produces 114 rwhp and 46tq... this is dyno specs. That would make it 135hp / 50+ tq at the crank. RS660 tq kicks in around 7K RPM. I had it over the weekend for about 120 miles doing a performance test for the channel.
