For street riding the R7 is much better. Makes nearly 20tq more at 6,000rpm. You can't always rev to the moon in town for power, and it fills that spot perfectly. It's also only 0.1 seconds slower to 60mph than the R6. Granted, they should've kept the R6 as well. It's not a replacement, but it fills a spot the R6 didn't fill very well.
@FadilKarim2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it literally makes no sense. If you're going to be in that cramped position, you might as well enjoy the extra power of a 600cc supersport. The whole point of this class is to make a bike that's more enjoyable (aka upright) on the roads.

@@jordanjoestar8839 I’ve had an R6 for the last 10 years. I have commuted on it into a major city. I ride on awesome canyon roads and coastal Northern California roads. I run it to redline all the time. I keep hearing people talk about how it’s hard to keep the bike in rev range. I disagree. I have no problem staying above 10k RPM when I’m having fun on it. The problem I have with the R6 is that it’s uncomfortable for more than an hour and it’s torture riding 2 up on a mountain with even a tiny passenger adding weight on your back as you slow or ride downhill, or heaven help you …. Slow while riding downhill. The R7 seems just as uncomfortable, and has half the power. To be fair, I also drive a high revving car and have no problems keeping that in high range either. So, maybe I’m just practiced at it. You downshift …. It’s not magic. You just downshift. You keep yourself in a good RPM range when you slow. Heel toe driving or rev matching the throttle on the bike as you downshift …. No big deal.

@@jordanjoestar8839 No, it’s still under-powered on the road. If someone has only ever ridden low powered bikes or only rides around town/city then fine (though why you’d chose to torture yourself with the R7’s riding position to do that I don’t know) but on any decent road it’s just far too under-powered. It’s aimed at learners and commuters who want a bike that looks like a proper sports bike but is easy to ride and doesn’t scare them, which is absolutely fine, but let’s not pretend it’s a proper sports bike.

I own a 2019 Honda CBR650R. I felt the same about the engine lacking low-end grunt and wanting a bit more sound so I got a Akropovic titanium exhaust - baffle removed, a Dynojet Power Commander, and a tune. It now makes about 100 HP and a bit more torque down low too. It’s still not as punchy as my 2018 Yamaha MT-07 (also with an Akropovic, PC, and tune - now makes about 80 HP) but it’s got enough low-end to be usable on the street and it’s a much better highway bike than the Yamaha. The R7 fills the gap in the market for people who want a dedicated racing position on a bike you can really ring out on the road. The R7 still goes 0-60 in around 3.5/4 seconds and gets to 132mph. RS660 is about £1,900 more than the Honda so your spot on in needs to be a lot better to justify it. Given the conclusion that what that money went on (electronics and less than 10 BHP) weren’t really any use on the road means it’s not really justified when you figure that in!

@@ianwarren That’s not what the development money was spent on, though. Aprilia put the whole bike together custom. It was built from the ground up with original R&D. Hell, they used the RS660’s electronics package in the rsv4 they spent so much time on it. The frame is one piece with the engine being a stressed member. The other two are built on a budget using recycled parts.

These bikes are right up my alley, and yet none of them really grab me. Maybe the CBR if I needed one bike to do it all. Seems like a good all rounder. R7 is a little over priced for what it is (USA pricing). Aprilia too high tech and too Italian.

Remember when your top level sportbike was also a great commuter, tourer and all the rest? Early Fireblades spring to mind. Big seats, comfy ergo's, a boot, decent economy when you're being nice and prices which weren't into orbit - all while being very capable on track. There's a reason they used to be the best selling bikes. I hope thats where this class ends up. The RS is certainly headed in the right direction. I just hope we don't keep seeing lazy/cheap designs like the R7 which is really a commuter bike with worse ergo's. Oh and for all the talk about the R7 being great in the race class made for it - just remember back in the good days most "production" classes tended not to allow engines so modified they are making 30%+ over stock. Oh and also remember the R7 shares most of its specs with an SV650 - a commuter bike which was launched back in the 90's. Putting that out as a "sports bike" is more than a bit of a stretch.

Yes, it's not a touring bike per say and there are more comfortable/appropriate bikes out there, but my bottom, legs, back and neck were perfect throughout the trip. My only uncomfort was on my wrists but primarily on the days where we did long miles over mountain passes, where the hard braking downhill did get them sore. P.S: the rack below the pillion seat is awesome for setting up Kriega kit - it took me 10 minutes to set up the anchoring loops on the rack (which now live there permanently) and then takes mere seconds to slap a Kriega US-XX on.

I'd rank it 1. Aprilia 2. Honda 3. Yamaha Why? Well the Aprilia is very versatile, can do both track and road comfortably. The Honda is also very comfortable for road and track usage, only downfall is being a bit boring on the road due to it being a revvy 4-cylinder bike. Now... As for the Yamaha, it got the ergonomics of a track bike, lacks the power for it and has an engine better suited for the road. So to me, the Yamaha misses the mark in where it should have shone the brightest, aka, being the perfect sporty road bike that you can actually ride around on comfortably in a more lenient riding position like the other two as opposed to being the worst in that area. But you know, this is just my opinion. I'd love for Kawasaki to release the Ninja 650 with the Z900 engine, or Yamaha to embrace their strengths with their engines rather than try to keep the old consumer supersport bikes in the past (aka crappy ergos, and hence why it is a segment of bikes less popular today than in the past). I have big hopes for Hondas upcoming CBR750R/F, let's hope they get it right.

@No_Name well you are right but that was not my point, I was talking about the bikes not how they compete in the market. Why is the ducati SS not here? Ii know its more powefull and expensive. But its the same sporty middleclass. And it was first, not the honda...

Ducati and Aprilia cost of ownership way higher than Honda.

I LOVE my RS660. Had it for one season. It is just seriously a planck length from perfect for me. Feels so premium and luxurious. Testrode a CBR650R after buying the RS660 and I was bored just riding out of the dealerships parking lot, honestly. Felt like sitting upright on a lady’s bike and the power deliver is just so dead compared to the Aprilia. No trashtalking, just genuinely so happy with the Aprilia.

any problems? the bike seems great but the bad reputation concerning reliability is a turn off

Hey goofball this video is about middleweight bikes not 600cc bikes 😂

@@Fastboycolt I guess I'm too old lol, since in the past we would classify a 600cc middleweight (for sport bikes).

It is not just an english think. People in GER look down to 600 too. But then I've hunted z1000, 1199, H2, RS900 r9t and so on at tight tracks with my 22 year old CBR600FS. No matter to own a sharp knife when you have ten thumbs on each hand.

Awesome review (as always)! Which would you pick between the Honda CBR 650R and the Kawasaki ZX-6R?
