Great video, takes me back, I had the 125 version of this, got completely bitten by the bug and ended up getting a tz250 and started racing. It’s such a shame that 2 stokes are getting rare now, there’s something addictive about the sight ,sound ,smell and feel of them.

I've owned 3 rgv 250's and 2 nsr 250's and can honestly say they were some of the best bikes I've owned, that tingling feeling you get after a good fast corner or twating it past a car as you overtake just cannot be beaten, so yeah the little 2stroke v-twins have a special place in my heart, its why us bikers ride if ya know ya know👊✊💨💨, great video m8,subbed ya😜👍

Ha ive owned a few bikes m8, the NSR'S were a 1990 mc 21 and a 1989 mc 18 and they were both grey imports, the RGV'S were a 1988 blue n white pipe either side model, a 1987 FUN model, and my favourite a 1993 KEVIN SCHWANTZ LUCKY STRIKE!. At the moment I have a 2004 VESPA PX 125 and I've just bought a 2020 KTM DUKE 890R 😏,so yeah I love my bikes and cars for that matter (IF ITS GOT TYRES OR TITS IM ALL OVER IT 😆) yeah like your channel so ill binge on a your back catalogue and keep up to date on your new stuff!!! Really it is made for track use. Did one last year. And its just made for it. Keeping the revs high,steers like a knife trough butter. Faster than the 600 in corners. And faster if your a good enough rider ;)

I'm slowly building my ultimate pocket rocket at the moment...A 1985 RG500 square four engine grafted into a 91 RGV 250 roller chassis..Its expensive alot of headaches and Engineering but I'm sure will be satisfying once it's all done.

They are simply wonderful life affirming machines and pound per smile are well worth the money. Had mine since 1996 with no major worries other than top end rebuilds every 8-10k, and since the additon of ethanol in petrol regular carb cleaning and a warped petrol tank. Great review.

Level 10 ownership from you - that just shows how special the bike is to have owned it for that long 😎 Poxy ethanol - ESSO premium is one of the last fuels available in the UK that is still ethanol free (always completely drain my tank when not in use)

Very much sounds and performs like my RGV250 Suzuki..with different styling..Top speed I've seen 200kph indicated on mine..and i just love the superb brakes and handling..due to it being so light and potent no heavy sportsbike can outdo me on the tight twisties so far..Great video thanks

Nice review - solid, I have the Max Biaggi Chesterfield one with the matching Dainese leathers and AGV helmet , looks so cool when you catch yourself in a window reflection - the first BIKE magazine that wrote about it in 1996 described it as something that " had been beamed down from space and resculpted by the ghost of Michelangelo" - it is the the last 2 stoke legend! it broke my back and fractured my skull and I still love it, even just looking at it

Main thing riding a RS 250. You gotta blip the throttle. Keep it in the rev range, to limit damage to the engine. Or worst engine seizure.. Learn to ride a 2 stroke properly before owning one. Then the fun starts. All about corner speed. Totally different from riding a 4 stroke. As you said no engine braking. A Race bike for the road. But on track it sings like an angel.. and can embarrass the bigger capacity bikes easy, if ridden properly.. Good maintenance/oil fuel is Paramount. If you can find a good one for the road your lucky. As most ended up on the race track. Ive owned 2 and still own one. A Val Rossi rep 99 champ winning custom replica. Had it for 20yrs now, and has cost me a small fortune in Engine rebuilds tuning etc. Might sell next year. But its my baby.. I still have a smile on my face doing track days around Europe and GB. ❤ 2 stroke heaven..

The exhaust power valve is there for better, cleaner low speed running. It reduces exhaust port timing at lower revs, and lifts up to the full height of the exhaust port at high revs. Most 2 strokes don't have exhaust power valves. None of the newest hyper performance Lambretta engines have them, even at 45 hp, 56 hp and 76 hp to the rear wheel, though some of the latest cylinders have bosses in the castings for power valves for some future time.

Also, you have to tell to the people that are new to two stroke. Never let off the throttle without pulling the clutch. The throttle is linked with 2t oil feed system. If the engine rpm is high but no 2t oil is feeding it, it will cause problems in the long run.

That’s an entire can of worms that argument 😅 The flip side of the comment is the oil pump has two variable factors that control it : engine speed & throttle position. Even with the throttle closed on idle at 1,000rpm the pump operates, with the throttle closed at say 11,000rpm the pump will still supply oil and with no oxygen it will not be burning so potentially excess oil.. for me 2 strokes will always need rebuilding regardless of use so just enjoy it and prepare for a rebuild at some stage lol

Btw i got the mild steel tygas. And brushed off the clear coat which had gotten brown and burn marks from oil. Now every time I put it in the garage, i just spray some wd40 on it and wipe clean. No rust

The mild steel is the best looking/ sound and as you mention keep on top of the protection it will be fine - more of an issue if you use the bike a lot as it will rust if not cleaned/ oiled ☹️

Before it was nicked I always wanted to drop one of these engines in my Mito, but now I couldn't bring myself to. Sure may not be as conventionally pretty as a Mito, but it's good looking in it's own way and deserves to be left as is.

Get mk2 fairing kit fabricate brackets to fit and it's gonna look just like mk2 and rebuild is after 6 to 8k so not as labour intensive as you think easy to do top end your self heat wise use ice cooler coolant and add a extra fan with switch. Proud to own UK Chesterfield

I own mk2 with 72hp at rw ,arrow and aprilia work tuned for the developments of year 2000 edition arrow pipes ,covered 18.000kl all over Europe ! Not one reliability issue ! It's very tractable from 3.000rpm engine and ,mileage ? I cruise at 100mph all day long on mine 1000km and my RS250 is stronger than me ! She never failed me ever!

BTW here in the US we didnt get the great two strokes other countries got t....hings petered out at the RZ350 and maybe a trickle of gray market 500 4 cylinder bikes. There was a 2 stroke sportsbike club that rode up in masse to a local twisties mountain hang out here in so cal. I have to say as cool as they were to look at and listen to they were shat on the move! in the twisties....my overweight not that well ridden Tracer 9gt just left ALL of em.....ALL of em for dead ....in the TIGHT stuff even! Apparently these 2t fan boys are all about making em look pristine and either forgot or never even learnt how to ride em fast in the first place? Im pretty sure my 1970s RD350 canon pace would be so so pathetic today even though I sure felt like I was really getting on it and 1973! Riding my big ol heavy Tracer (485llbs!) I was so embarassed for this entire club!! Of course a lot of their problem isthe old tech tires and suspension narrow rims spindly little forks

Every biker should be made to ride them to appreciate just how the right gear selection works,, how to keep it in the right gear for ultimate power band selection, and what tiny tourqe curve it has,, it really teaches you all those aspects which you can transfer to any bike,.ride a yamaha sr125 for example and its dog slow and has the power and performance of a slug compared to a 125cc two stroke, i passed my test on the sr125,, my god i hated those hours leading up to the test and the test,, but freedom when i could jump back on my kawasaki h100ex and rag it everywhere, going way to fast and bouncing down the road (literally in some cases)😂

Thanks! It’s a Castrol Fully Synthetic one (from memory around £15 per litre) can’t say I’ve had any issues in all the years of owning it so must be delivering the protection 👍

Hi. As you said in the video you can ride one being 6ft2 but how crampped is it? Is there any pictures or videos of you riding? Looking to buy one but the 250 model was not imported to finland so would need to go to continental europe to buy one… so i dont want to waste a trip for not fitting one

Hi Samu, it’s a small bike and certainly not comfy for people over 6ft sadly, I had no issues riding it but after an hour on board I was happy to stand and stretch my legs out. I did find fitting a Lust Racing Jack up kit made for a better riding position for me. Thanks James

It’s a genuine road going Aprilia RS250, the replica refer’s to the Aprilia RS250 race bike (completely different level of motorcycle and not road legal)

2 strokes are actually not known for "making more rpm" Oh contrare! The engineers trying to extract more power from FOURSTROKE engines were forced to make them into oversquare rev monsters! Two strokes make EXPLOSIVE power but they cant reliably handle a lot of rpm because the crank and rod bearings are barely lubicated by a little oil mixed in with fuel because the fuel air mix HAS to circulate around the crank rod and piston where it gets forced through transfer ports back on top of piston to be compressed and sploded every other stroke (every up stroke compression every down stoke POWER while amazingly every upstroke EXHAUST and every down stroke forcing air fuel UPWARDS into combustion chamber! A MIRACLE! Its MAGIC! But it aint no rev to the moon thing compared to 4 stroke like for like ....Put it this way a high revving two stroke production (Aprillia circa mid nineties) 250cc motorcycle might do approx half the RPM of the high revving FOUR stroke (like 19k rpm! ) of CBR250RR

In the UK a decent running one is typically £6,000 - £10,000 which is a lot of money for what they cost a few years ago but they appear to just keeping going up in value each year

@@stoneautomotive No I'm afraid I got the 600 Honda and lasted three months before crashing it.Ended up in a wheelchair for another three months then realised bikes are great fun but if i continued on another one i would kill myself,so i left it at that.I loved speed and could never ride the bike at a legal speed.Just to add on,when I crashed my bike Joey dunlop was killed off his,I though well if the greatest motorcycle racer can get killed there is no hope for me,that's where I finished with bikes.

Yea that’s the problem with the power so easily on tap, the RC8R I have is incredible in terms performance with zero assists so if it does go wrong it’s game over.. the feeling on them is incredible though 😬

Having ridden 250cc 4 strokes I can confirm they make more “usable” torque.. but you are correct - just add more cc to over come the issue 😂

That’s a question for Aprilia as to why they chose the design they did in the MK1, the MK2 is regarded as the better one

They ran preload and damping in separate forks. Terrible idea that was remedied with the MK2.

6/7 thousand £ would buy you a decent litre bike 😂 i get that they are a novelty I'd an Rs 125 myself but honestly the running and maintenance costs for a bike that ultimately is off the road more than its on it is scandals I've a Japanese imported yamaha fzs fazer 400 yes thats correct an inline 4 400cc 57bhp it would even wipe the floor with this rs250 and it takes a lot less to run and hell of a lot less in maintenance costs

Agree if you want straight line speed and reliability you can certainly buy a lot of other bikes in that price bracket but the way a well sorted 2 stroke rides is just 👌👌👌 but that does depend if you like 2 strokes I guess 😅 And regarding the Fazer 400, whilst it’s a cool bike it would not stand a chance against an RS250 😂 the power & weight far exceeds any 4 stroke

Wrong Mirrors sort it out lol , ever 3 tanks of petrol u use 15 pounds of 2 stroke oil sounds wrong mate,

Guess it depends how you ride it regarding the oil usage, riding as intended will burning through a litre of oil fast enough

Having owned both a KR/250 and the RZ/500 two strokes I can say you rode your bike like a four stroke.

I’ll take that as a negative comment 😅 On the flip side I own two 4 strokes that Rev higher than the RS250 so not completely sure where the comment is being aimed 🤷‍♂️
