What the aprilia really needs is to get on par with the electronics, the hard rev limiter is just one example, but the entire aprc package still looks more like what we had back in 2011 than what ducati and BMW has now. The Aprilia also has a sharp drop-off which means it's probably got a hard limit. I have a feeling they could lighten some of the internals now that the borexstroke has changed, wind out another 500 or so RPMs, and add a soft limiter to make it more usable in the real world. It would actually be really interesting to have control over this from the APRC controls... race vs street rev limiter tuning

Can you please tell us what gear the shown dyno runs are done in? Seemingly the Ducati revs to peak HP much faster than the Aprilia. I've owned multiple RSV4s and can easily attest to the fact that it's the best dynamic bike on the track bar none, but I'm really impressed by that Ducati. It makes its horsepower so fast that I can't imagine it being anything but relentless at full throttle. I'd take a Ducati that gets to 200hp in 7 seconds over an RSV4 that gets to 208hp in 9.5 seconds anytime.

The comparison dyno graph shows 6th gear pulls from both bikes. The v4s is a beast in how flexible the engine is. The Aprilia is outrageous too but below 5000 rpm, it is noticeably softer. But once you drop a gear, it’s a rocket.

Great upload. Manufacturers measure the bike hp at the crank on the Dyno you can lose between 12 - 14% hp but also wheel spin affects the reader. The best way is to put a slick on the rear. Cheers from London, UK.
@shivhappens92005 жыл бұрын
Vincent Saward the problem with running slicks on the dyno is their coefficient of friction will vary wildly in the temperature range it would see on the dyno. In fact, it would take a few pulls to get enough heat in them in order to keep them from slipping during the actual recorded full throttle dyno run. This would make it increasingly more difficult to keep engine temps in the target testing range. Also, towards the end of a long 6th gear pull, a slick would get quite tacky and result in excessive frictional losses which would skew the results. The OEM supercorsa tires are great for dyno tasting since they maintain a similar Cf in the test temp range. A good rule of thumb for dyno testing is to use the hardest and least sticky tire as possible without running into wheel spin issues. In this test, there were no wheel spin issues at all.

What is the benefit of having the V4 use a twin pulse firing order? I’m not at all knowledgable with motorcycles, so when I heard about a V4, I was expecting a high pitched F1 sort of exhaust note.
@Sorry_ImTruthful5 жыл бұрын
It’s for a smooth torque line & engine balance in the corners. Funny thing about it? Is that he talks about it without even mentioning the “twin pulse” when he brings up the dyno chart for the V4, and says how he loves the feel of the bike... I guess you just have to ride it to understand it.
@Thee_Sinner5 жыл бұрын
Sorryimtruthful I thought I read somewhere that the 90 degree v4 of the other firing order (idk what to call it) was inherently balanced.
@Sorry_ImTruthful5 жыл бұрын
Uriah Siner it’s a 70 degree crank with a 90 degree cylinder bank. The order is 1,2..1,2 for both left & right cylinders. And they are so close together to the point of firing like the V2 (or L-twin) that had a amazing torque curve & engine balance. The V4 try’s to replicate that and keep that same V2 sound... then theirs also the “reverse crank” that also helps with balance, but it also takes away a little of the power from the bike, but that’s a whole different kind of tech to talk about? Lol 😆

@@trevorbush3656 The race exhausts you mention for the Duc are not street legal since they do not have a catalyst. In fact, they can only be dealer installed on dedicated race bikes here in CA. @identiticrisis5 жыл бұрын
@Miran Kajtna if the Aprilia makes more power up top, then the Ducati doesn't make more power everywhere. Stick to the facts please. Ducati decided to use the extra cubes lower down, that's fine. What you find more useful is up to you. Which bike you find easier to ride fast mostly depends on you. That's the joy of all of this. And why we stick to the facts. Why aren't the bikes strapped down? Tire slip is a BIG factor on bikes. Next time strap them down.

STREET BIKE USA if the dyno rollers haven’t lost their knurling, you don’t need more than body weight to keep them from slipping on the roller. Also, the higher the gear, the higher torque requirements for slippage. Far higher than the bikes are capable of putting down. Also, strapping bikes down excessively will cause tire carcass deformation which will result in a loss of power the rollers. More so on the Ducati with the taller 60 profile tire. So it would have introduced another unnecessary variable that we would somehow need to manage for the sake of fairness.

@@shivhappens9200 fascinating. Makes sense. Thanks for educating me.

Did you say that 2-5 hp in the midrange is the difference between “shock and awe” and a “smooth” power delivery? Lol. Sir, the curves are nearly identical through most of the rev range - that comment is nonsense.

Trevor Huisman Please look at the graph carefully. the Ducati has 10-15lb-ft advantage through in the low end and much of the midrange. That is very noticeable and significant.

Looks like Ducati Won this one... Its got a higher redline, so it can pull a lower gear to achieve higher effective torque... I think the Ducati will out accelerate the Aprilia in all but the highest gear... Now handling may be a different matter...

V4S = 1.2hp/kg - .71Nm/kg , RSV4 = 1.2hp/kg - .69Nm/kg Hardly a beatdown more like a stalemate. Just because the RSV4 has a couple more horsepower & torques at the dyno the actual power to weight ratio slightly favors the Ducati. People place far too much importance on total power output, without considering the actual physics of the bike itself. Furthermore the V4S just looks better, the RSV4 looks like a Kawasaki from a few years ago only with a grey paint job. Ducati holds more cachet, and Aprilia never won MotoGP but did win a few World Superbike, which Ducati has also won a few of. Overall I find the Ducati more compelling, by a large margin. The sound is subjective, however with a razor slight edge I'll give that to the Aprilia. I'd still much rather the Ducati despite the Aprilia's insignificant edge on power output. The rest of the bike more than makes up for this nonissue. Faster around a track? You can't trust that, different riders get around a track differently, and exact times are not exactly repeatable. Crowning the Aprilia "King" would be premature at best anyway, as Ducati will always have an answer.
