I agree, the Outback hardware is bombproof - I have it up front w/ the bash plate and engine guards. BUT, I decided to go w/ the SW-Motech carriers in the back. My main reason for this is the dead simple, quick, & easy ability to take the racks off completely for light off-road ride. I use the Mosko 10L Reckless "holsters". I also bought a second carrier setup so that I can mount the Mosko Moto panniers or the SW-Motech hard cases w/o having to change the mounting hardware - a TOTALLY flexible set-up all-in-all. Thanks for your video, love seeing the Outback stuff, so sturdy. O, and the SW-Motech tail rack is another bomb proof set-up, and very adaptable.

That's awsome, @1young-geezer! Crazy thing is, I just got rid of my T-Rex Racing crash bars and skid plate, replacing them with the Outback Motortek ones. So I'll be matching your setup up front! Oh, and of course we did an install/review video of that, which is coming soon. Make sure you subscribe and check back to make sure I did it right! 🙂 I'll have to check out the SW-Motech racks. Sounds interesting with the quick-release system. I had Givi luggage racks on my previous bike, which worked great too. Thanks for the great comment...

@@MotoPhotoAdventures One further mention should anyone be interested in the Mosko Moto fitment to the SW-Motech carriers. I didn't know that I could mount the bags to the SW-M carrier, as it is an odd carrier shape for sure. But when I looked into Mosko Moto's Fitment PDF, the SW-M was one of a couple of odd carrier system in further section that could be fitted providing you drill 3 of 4 holes to do so. This is really no problem at all. So look deep in the Fitment section, it's doable. Now, the carrier system, to buy separately, is $345 or something like that - yeah not cheap, but to have two types of cases that can go on to my bike w/o all the fiddling of switching mount hardware - or take EVERYTHING off - is pretty darn sweet! The Tuareg is so darn versatile, it's a pleasure to ride it "bag naked" when I want to, or metal boxes for around town shopping, lol, and still go out in off-road territory w/ top notch soft luggage. Phew, think I've said my peace..........

@@1young-geezer that's fantastic information! Thanks for sharing. I have a set of Nelson Rigg Hurricane bags on a quick-release plate the slips right onto my OM bars. I also have a set of Givi Trekker Outback cans from my previous bike. Still trying to figure out if I'll be able to adapt them to the OM bars or not. OM tells me Givi is not forthcoming with any kind of inter-agency collaborating. In other words, they don't play well with others. HA! But we'll see if some "fiddling" will make something work. :-)

Nice. Looking rack. I like how the support brace is angled up, out of the way. - Frank

Looks nice, but it’s sad that they didn’t use the attachment point right behind the seat between the brake light

I honestly don't think they needed another mounting point. After I tightened everything down, it is super solid!

With all the rough riding you plan, I'm not sure I'd trust those nylon lock nuts. Or even the blue lock tight. The red lock tight is too strong, it's stronger than many bolts and the bolts will break before coming out. The other choice is to drill a whole through the nut and bolt and use a cotter pin. On the track the bolts are drilled and wired to stop them from coming out.

Excellent point, Steven! I haven't had any trouble with bolts rattling loose on my old bike...even doing the TAT and other off-road trips. Of course I tend to check and tighten bolts periodically anyway. So maybe that's why. I'm familiar with how guys drill and wire nuts for track days. But nylon locknuts and blue locktite seem to work well so far.

The rear rack looks like it has two holes in the plate that might accommodate a RotoPax mount? Can you confirm?
@MotoPhotoAdventures

Yes indeed! They have a plate that accommodates the RotoPax system.

Did you get regular seat or low seat on the Touareg?
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures Жыл бұрын
So far I'm just using the regular seat. However, I'm pretty short at 5"7' and 29/30" inseem. So I have to tip-toe my feet to touch the ground. I think I might order the low seat to try it out. But I'm going to test the standard one for a bit first.

@@MotoPhotoAdventures I just test rode one. Great bike, but a bit taller than I would like. I read about the low seat and lowering kit, the latter not widely available....
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@rjsalameh then you definitely DO NOT want to test ride a Yamaha T7!!! 🙂 Seriously, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think the lowered seat (I think it's about 3/4" to 1" lower) would be about perfect. But I hate buying a new seat when a perfectly good one game with the bike. HA! Still, it would be an easy way to instantly make the bike fit me better. So we'll see. As you pointed out, there are also several lowering kits out there. I think the Kuba on drops the bike 1.25". One of the biggest praises for this bike is for the amazing suspension and ground clearance they gave it! I'm willing to sacrifice some of the flat-footed comfort of my CB500X in exchange for the 21" front wheel, great suspension, and fantastic ground clearance!
