I'm giving the GIVI a shot - picked up an unused set 2nd hand for a good price, and the t-rex skid plate is at the top of my list for the same reasons - oil filter access although if the intervals are really 6000 miles, maybe that's less of an issue. I expect I'll be changing oil more often tho. I like the Camel skid plate for the cat converter cover, but I like the T-rex for its nice tailored fit and the linkage protection.

I like how it all came together with the skid plate and crash bars. Since making this video I cut a little bit of the skid plate to keep it away from the crash bars. The skid plate has taken an absolute beating and has held up really well. The Camel Adv skid plate is really nice but it is more expensive. I change my oil about every 4k miles so it is nice to be able to do it without removing the skid plate. The only problem is getting the bike setup upright for the oil to drain straight down. You can't drain the oil if the bike is on the kickstand. Just something to think about.

I bought my 660 identicle to yours with 2200km on the clock and the T-Rex carsh bars installed. While I like the T-Rex skid plate, I'm pretty sure that the crash bars will smash both my knee-caps if I hit anything solid (a terrible design, IMO). I was thinking of the exact set-up you have, so thank you for this video, it is very helpful in making a decision.

@@brucerossonthetube you might want to take an angle grinder to parts of the skid plate to ensure clearance. I am planning to do that soon.

Also went T-rex. Airflow around Cat helped perceived heat on right let too. Then swmoto on crash bars

Nice, forgot to mention airflow. I like the SW Motech crash bars.

I have the Camel skid plate with the Heed crash bars. You can access the oil filter with the Camel unit.

Good to know. I almost went with the camel skid plate but price made the final decision.

You're brave mix matching protection

I don't know, it has worked well on my other bikes. It takes some fitting.

@@advmatt I just mean as confidence on them working out together . I'd be worried about not being able to make it work and wasting the money and time. But from my experience T-Rex racing makes good products and so does Givi

@@MotoCampAdv Oh ok, I understand you. Yeah, I spend lots of time studying how the skid plates and crash bars mount trying to get as many images from different angels as possible. At some point I just go for it and make adjustments as necessary. Cheers.

Yes, I have the T Rex on my 390. Does an excellent job, although the oil filter plate is basically useless because you need to remove the plate to get to the other filters. Never used it. I suppose if you weren't going to change the other filter then it might be ok.
@advmatt6 ай бұрын
Yeah, for the 390 it is not as convenient, but protective.

Had T-rex plates on two bikes so far. Think they offer great value and quality. My 660 came with crash bars, but I haven't decided on skid plate yet, because of possible fitment issues with those crash bars. Hope things are coming around with your bike!

Thanks for the T-Rex endorsement. Glad to hear it. I plan to fly back out Cali next week to pick up the bike and ride home.

I had the T-Rex crash bars and skid plate on my Super Tenere. The one issue I had was that oil filter plate, the screws kept coming off so I had to use Loctite and then they would not come off! They were solid units and I abused them, I would buy them or the Outback ones.
@advmatt6 ай бұрын
@@mikemills5144 I was trying to decide between those two brands and the Camel. I will keep an eye on the screws for the oil filter filter cover. Thanks for the heads up.

Congrats on the new bike! How many miles do you think this Aprilia 660 engine can last? Does 20k miles considered high mileage for this bike?
@advmatt3 ай бұрын
@@adv_addict this bike, like most twins should be able to get 80k miles if serviced properly. 20k miles on a motorcycle is pretty low mileage.
