Cheers mate. It's always nice to get something on the ground but as you know hunting is far more than that. Sometimes we miss opportunities, sometimes we make mistakes and sometimes we get lucky and all of these things can happen within seconds of each other but in the end just being out there doing it with good mates is what it's all about for us. Thanks for watching.

Nice looking dog! I hunt deer over a viszla too. Can I suggest a more productive approach to early morning hunting over a dog? Thermals run downhill on cold mornings. Traverse the bottom of spurs and creek systems in the early morning. Trust your dogs nose and follow them back to their bedding areas.
@BoltActionProductions3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Craig. You are right in what you have said but sometimes the wind beats the thermals. Your input is very much appreciated mate. Keep it coming and thanks for watching.
@craigeberhardt11643 жыл бұрын
I guess that is true sometimes. I am on to my second dog now. When I first started it was hard to adjust to the idea that her nose is a thousand times better than my eyes. Once I surrendered to that idea and started to follow the golden rule “always trust your dog” my success rate skyrocketed. I also noticed that not following your dog can cause your dog to be confused about what you want it to do. In my experience you are always better to plan your hunt to suit the wind and the dog’s nose. This generally means avoiding strong winds and actively using thermals to your advantage. Sometimes this is a pain in the arse but it always pays off. If you are in an area where there is a good population of deer you will find them so easily if you set your dog up to traverse the wind/thermals. I love your videos by the way. I am a lawyer in Brisbane but I have a place on the South Island of NZ. If you are interested in hunting Chamois look me up. Kind regards, Craig
@BoltActionProductions3 жыл бұрын
Thanks again mate. Leigh would love to give April a free run in a lot of the locations we hunt. One problem with this and something we don't always mention is the baiting of wild dogs and foxes in a lot of these areas. As you can understand it is a horrible way for any animal to die and something we never want to see of our dogs. Take care mate. Talk soon.
@craigeberhardt11643 жыл бұрын
@@BoltActionProductions yes that is a problem. My approach doesn’t involve her having a free run though. She can do it on a short lead....that is how the English do it. Anyway just some thoughts from a fellow hunter. More than one way to skin the cat.

Cheers John. The little hook on my vest I made for that exact reason, to help stop the sling sliding off my shoulder. There is one made by Talarik that you will see on Pauls pack. If you are in Australia you can buy them from Moroka 30 www.moroka30.com.au/talarik-sling-hook-918

I don't know about Victoria, But in NSW it is a requirement that you must wear something( cap, shirt, jumper) with blaze orange on it, so other hunters won't shoot you... This is when hunting on public land. Actually I think it's law that you must wear it.
