This is one of the Corpo banlists The biggest offender I remember was the aforementioned Duelist Alliance slaughter list, where they banned Construct and Towers, Shaddoll especially was already underpowered at the time, but people played it because it ~could~ win and a lot of people were just happy playing a mid power shaddoll deck instead of buying a whole new one. Konami banning cards after they've already committed their war crimes and after they're on their death bed in the hospital is classic.

Yeah, I been saying if the card was problematic enough to ban it should have been banned before the reprint set, if they are just gonna ban a card immediately after its budget reprint it sours the whole product and makes everyone angry for no reason at all. Its not like they couldn't have found some other expensive cards that weren't gonna be banned to shove in bonanza instead of the diabelle engine. OSS ban made all of bonanza's biggest hits seems so scummy.

All of these TCGs popping up seems like market oversaturation at a time when people have to make tough choices on food and rent. Might only be able to afford one hobby. It's cool to see new games, but might just be window shopping for alot of people.

Yeah, I fear that's going to become the trend. Some games might be fun to just collect a few favorites, but not really play regularly. And card shops only have so many free days to host tournaments anyway.

In regards to Palworld, They arent removing the Pal Sphere (yet). They removed the animation of the player throwing the ball out to summon a Pal in a location. You are still lobbing Pal Spheres at Pals to catch them.

Personally, I think money plays a factor, especially in bad economic circumstances. If they have to pay more for necessities, hobbies take a back seat, but that's not unique to TCG, just people have less to work with.

Same people that refuse to replace physical media with streaming services are likely going to not replace their physical cards with digital service ones. There are people out there that hold old collection only or proxy exclusively as well and that would be hard to track. I don't think digitizing cards is playing that big of a role on taking away from physical card games but it's probably expanding the player base to people that wouldn't buy real cards, go to a real local game store and play with actual people. Digital tcg , in my opinion, is a good advertising tool for your game, but it comes at a price of associating to internet culture.

Being a Pokemon fan and playing the games over 1000 hrs+ Pal World is a very different type of game just with monster capture mechanics, there are lot more games that are very similar to Pokemon that no one mentions so I don't get why Pal World is getting so much heat for "copying" Pokemon if there a better example of that from other games.

Grand Archive has been doing the banlist announcements and (if applicable) errata announcements after their Ascent's since they've started doing Ascents, which I really enjoyed every time to tune in to the closing ceremony. Glad Konami seems to have changed to be doing the same!

20:25 yeah idk Paul. Players talk about wanting set rotation in yugioh and that’s what this banlist did essentially. It’s not exactly the same cause there’s no official statement that sets a precedent for set rotation but if you’ve been playing long enough and got what you wanted out of the card within 3 months you should know to off load.

I think that last point is very important. A lot of players DON'T know about that vicious Yu-Gi-Oh cycle. Some people are new to the game (just started within the last year or two) and can't be expected to anticipate routine metagame shifts far enough in advance to sell their cards. And furthermore, some can't afford to constantly be on that curve.

They're largely separate lists. Even most cards come to Master Duel 3-6 months after TCG release.

Need games like Tag Force, WC, Duelist of the Roses, etc. back. I would've never really gotten into Yugioh if it weren't for those games, so them falling out of the lineup has been really unfortunate. Hopefully Early Days does really well and that incentivizes Konami to make one again

What's kind of funny is the question about should Konami, make a semi-competative Yu-Gi-Oh deck that's ready to go out of the box?. Is that there is another TCG/CCG that already does this, it's called Redemption & the site Your Turn Games, makes & sells semi-competative decks that are ready to go. They are for players who have masters their modern starter decks & are looking for the next level up.

I stopped playing (paper) Yugioh around 2006 and now only play (modified) Speed Duel. When Duel Links came out, I was interested in playing because I was missing (playground) Yugioh. I stopped after a couple months because (among many reasons) it was way too modern for me. I tried again later in like 2023 to try Rush Duel, but I got tired of it after a day. Master Duel is definitely out of the question for me. I’m considering Edison, but I don’t want to spend much on a deck that I’ll only be able to play like twice a month at my LGS.

The old rulers are just so limited by their strict opt, and you have to play so many of them to make the deck really function, even if you go 3 each for the babies and 2 each of the big rulers its still 20 slots before you even add the new stuff, and the pitch a dragon cost of every card in the deck makes any non-dragon nonengine really risky to play. But the new support is about as pushed as it can be, the light rank 7 being a toolbox of search any dragon, foolish any monster, monster reborn, or pop a card + get you more combo fuel as cost and being a quick effect is unreal. I think the only thing making that card not independantly banworthy is the lack of a better smaller engine that can get 2 lv 7 dragons on board.

On the whole cards getting banned when budget players get them. I couldn't agree more it sucks to not be able to play without dropping so much money. The real option is to play a less popular deck that still does well, thus cheap and avoids the ban list. Just can be hard to determine what deck that is and always feels bad to lower your odds of winning just based off the deck you're playing.

It's the vicious Yu-Gi-Oh cycle. I think I'd have preferred something like what Alec said, where we give the existing top decks a bit more time to adapt to and compete with the insurgent ones (Maliss and Ryzeal), especially because a lot more people recently got access to building those previous expensive decks. Otherwise it gives a bit less faith in products to stick around. Similarly, when Maliss and Ryzeal are eventually nerfed on a banlist in ~6-9 months themselves, it will conveniently be around the time they're getting reprints. Sucks all around.

@@apsamplifier it feels especially unfair when in all likelyhood SE/azamina as it existed pre banlist probably still has a poor matchup into both ryzeal and maliss. What made snake eye so strong on release was a tiny engine, layered interactions that didn't overplay into any 1 single board breaker, repeatable resource loop, lot of non engine space, which ryzeal and maliss is just better at now. the latest iteration of se/azamina has a huge engine, tons of garnets that incentivize you to go above 40 cards, a cram packed extra deck with no flexibility, and an inherent fragility from only having 1 copy each of its best monsters, and makes an extremely subpar board under dimensional shifter. but tenpai 100% deserved it I hate that deck 🤣

Personally I’m excited for the League TCG, and Gundam if I can get my hands on the product. I’m looking for a second TCG as I currently only play One Piece. I used to play Yugioh around 2003/Jinzo era and quitting after discovering girls existed. I tried Master Duel to get back into the game and just wasn’t a fan of what Yugioh is today, games end to quickly, the interactions are kinda lame, hand traps etc. I was at locals the other day grabbing some singles from OP09 at my LGS and it was Yugioh night, round 2 started and before I could finish my transaction with the owner I over hear a guy announcing he won his matchup.

I don't know enough about the League universe to be super interested in Project K, but I also haven't finished watching Arcane, which could totally change my mind. And yeah, modern Yu-Gi-Oh is VERY polarizing. It's fun for some, and miserable for others.

I also think when it comes to diversity and Yugioh part of why it's more diverse then magic is the pricing while singles can get crazy expensive I feel like if you want to get into the game a 3x$30 structure is an easier investment to make then a $80 commander deck.

Nintendo hit a small studio for patents yet, they didn't hit Rockstar for their pokemon mod in their games or the mod teams themselves. To a lot of people, this is just Nintendo trying to silence any competition while they release terrible games BDSP, the new legends game, Sword and Shield, violet and scarlet. It just screams " if I can't have it no one can " bully behavior.
