That was my first thought too. This answered some of my most pressing questions about the Aptera driving on snow. Need more video in less than perfect driving conditions - like how does it handle a rain storm with a driving side wind?

@@passivlife Good thinking to steer the investors to the co-CEOs. The project is so appealing that it's just a numbers game at this point. Sooner or later the right big investor will step in.

Glad you had an opportunity to experience the Gamma vehicle and thank you for sharing with us. Your comments about aspects of the vehicle being either larger or smaller than expected really crystallizes in my mind the struggle that many people (including myself) have with intuitively grasping the scale of the thing. The appearance of the vehicle is so far outside most of our experience that many of us end up mis-guessing. It is going to take each of us getting to actually walk around and climb into the vehicle to recalibrate our expectations of it accurately. Fortunately folks like you who have found that opportunity keep saying it is better than expected. I will take comfort in that till I get my chance.

@Passivlife Nobody told us about this event, otherwise many of us would have come to see it. I even expressed the desire to come see Aptera when it was at Modena, Italy, if they allowed it, but Aptera never responded. I am a hop away in Patras, Greece.

@@adimchionyenadum2962 Adimchi, I am so grateful for your interest over years now. When my wife and I got to see and ride in the Luna prototype back in November of 2021, it was a result of months of communication and even then was a huge surprise that day that our visit included a ride. I am still humbled that it included pulling an engineer from their normal work to make it happen. We are all in this together and many of us do our best to share our experiences to push this project forward.

An excellent video -- simple, concise, experiential and honest. Most of all, it shows how this kind of publicity is a good fit for Aptera. It's appearance in person generates a lot of attention. Hope Aptera does more of this. It's time to get more people talking about it and making more reservations and investments. I just did.

Thanks, this means a lot to me. In terms of size and your encounter with it. Well done report. Interested to hear from fellow Europeans who investigate import charges from LA. The alternative sounded like waiting even longer for a European microfactory to be set up in 2028.

Maybe not. If sales boom here and they get the factory model perfected, they should be able to set up pretty quickly in other locations since they won't have to build a plant from scratch, just find an existing suitable facility.

This may be a nice vehicle for some, but for me it would not work as a family vehicle - not practical for all year usage. Also how does this vehicle go in the snow??? I would prefer 4 tires and AWD. Do they classify this vehicle as a car or a motor bike??? How safe is the Aptera if we got in a accident??? Doesn't look safe to me for city driving. How much would insurance cost on Aptera??? More than other cars??? Where would we have to take Aptera for repairs??? I am pretty sure there won't be many Aptera facilities in the US to take an Aptera to for fixes or repairs done should anything happen to it. It is too specialized of a vehicle with too many unique parts should it need replacing. This vehicle is more of an Exotic expensive summertime playtoy for those that like this kind of thing.

I've seen aptera drive in the snow live in Switzerland. Its perfect, even uphill ni slips, even without snowchains. It's technically a quadracycle in the US. Safer than the average car. Normal xars are very square, which makes them structurally weaker than fully rounded shell shapes. The original aptera had the highest roof crush strength of any vehicle. It has also been specifically modified against side impacts and has a rollbar and F1 style safety cell. Also, like any ev, it has double brakes snd a very low center of gravity, making it hard to flip. So should be safer than a normal car. Insurance should be much less than a normal car too because its technically not a car, it belongs to a cheaper category. Aptera believes in right to repair so it's designed to be repaired at home if possible. Regular maintenance and checks are like any other ev.

The width of Aptera as a car is not an issue in Europe. The problem is that it is classed as an autocycle and so can't be more than 2 meters in width. Is there a way to get around that?

Thanks for the brief but informative update. I think we're all a little jealous that you got to see it and ride in it but it sounds like you paid a price to do that so we appreciate it. Wish they could have had the solar on display as that is a key point of this vehicle but I expect they explained that to investors and had handouts as well. Hopefully a QR code on the handout that took them to the Aptera KZbin channel too.

Its definately wide, but I was nervous that it would be extreme, but its not, we have a lot of American cars around here that are much wider. It will work in 99% of europe no problem. Very old towns with tiny streets might be a problem, but they are a problem for all cars.

Is there solar technologie already working? If so, did you get any insight of how much it charged from sun in reality?
@passivlife
@passivlife Жыл бұрын
The solar panels are all working individually as expected. What we dont yet have is a full solar prototype. When the next and final prototype is released we should get official solar performance data along with it. The Solar is pretty easy to make work, the big question will be how efficient is the real vehicle? Because that will define the range much more than the solar.

That was a CCS2 connector (the one that is good for up to 70 KW DC fastcharging) which is standard in European countries. The CCS2 for up to 100 KW (irrelevant for the Aptera) is bulkier though.

Nice video! One remark though about the size. It will not be registrable as a normal vehicle in Europe. It is too wide for its vehicle classification in the L5e category. It will not be allowed as a normal M class car with less size restrictions. So this US model can only be registrable as a experimental vehicle with a maximum of 75 per country.

'They are close to mass production' It's easy to make one car. It's hard to mass produce cars. For a mass production Aptera need a factory and tools who can produce that many cars the can sell pretty effortless. A 100'000 car production per year might cost a billion dollar in advance.
@passivlife
@passivlife Жыл бұрын
Very true. Aptera are aiming at 10,000 per year with their current setup, which they can then scale up if needed. Thankfully 10000 is still technically small scale production, so the upfront costs are not as extreme as other manufacturers.
@snuups
