The Light Dome Mini II is great for portability around a studio, but I'll continue to experiment with it as a key light as I appreciate the larger light dome as the key. What are your thoughts, and do you have either of these light domes or either of the SL-60W lamps? How about that intro? Just had to laugh at myself...you can too.
@mitchfraser39214 жыл бұрын
That inner reflector for the light dome mini ii is so that your light fills up the dome evenly. When you shoot straight through the diffusion you will get a big hot spot and you really aren’t diffusing the light very much.
@KevinRossRN4 жыл бұрын
Right, appreciate you weighing in here....Do you currently have this light dome or looking to pick one up?
@mitchfraser39214 жыл бұрын
Kevin Ross I have two Light Dome Mini II’s and one Light Dome II; arguably the inner diffuser for the full size light dome doesn’t soften your light anymore. Your pretty much just cutting your light level when you use it. I usually just run the full sized light dome with the magic cloth diffusion but no inner diffuser
@KevinRossRN4 жыл бұрын

@KevinRossRN5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a great, and pretty simple setup. I do some minor editing for clean up since it's a condenser mic, but not much. I've podcasted for years (as well as recorded videos for years), so some of that is just honing voice inflection, diaphragm work, and a few very nerdy things I picked up over the years. 🤷♂️ Definitely experiment with your setup a little. Sometimes it's just a minor tweak here and there. Looking for a lighting setup for a studio?
@nextlevelwarrior5 жыл бұрын
@@KevinRossRN nope, that's where the irony comes in as I was curious how much of a difference the larger diffuser made. Just over a month ago I got the "nicefoto" 36" with the sl60 and its gorgeous for what it can do. Other than the massive amount of space it takes up. I've used it in my last video to give me that huge catch light. I'll definitely be playing around with the audio. I see that you kept the dead cat on indoors.
@KevinRossRN5 жыл бұрын
@@nextlevelwarrior Gotcha 👍 Yes, I did keep the dead cat on, especially since my environment isn't setup with panels or anything like that... @@KevinRossRN great - my space isnt optomized for any of that as well so ill keep it on. If I may ask - and making a terrible assumption that you may be using premiere pro - what audio clip fx editors would you suggest using in PP's channel mixer. Ive gotten some good results with very poor knowledge when tweaking with 4 or 5 of them, but its a bit overwhelming and im looking for simplicity for sustainable content creation as I progress.
@KevinRossRN5 жыл бұрын
@@nextlevelwarrior I actually use Final Cut...which honestly Premiere has better built-in capabilities since it is essentially Audition. I sometimes create a separate audio track that I edit in Logic Pro, especially for pro work or when I really need some help. Some of the EQ settings are tweaked based on my voice. I've got quite a bit of bass in my voice, so I do bring that down a bit. I'll use an expander to reduce some of the room noise, especially since I have a server that the mic is able to pick up. I'll either increase gain in the expander, or add a separate limiter for gain, but to also make sure I'm not peaking either. It's a bit of an art with KZbin videos because the platform seems to also want to "normalize" my audio as well, so I like when it sounds good on YT, but it actually sounds even better in my editor 🤷♂️

A Moment In Time Productions 1 second ago It looks cool, but i think the lights i use are more powerful, I use a similar system i use the Impact Octacool-6 Fluorescent Light Kit with Octabox (6 Lamps) Fluorescent Light Kit with Octabox (6 Lamps) It comes with 6 Fluorescent Light how ever i don't use Fluorescent Lights at all i threw them light bulbs away and installed the 100-Watt Equivalent A19 Dimmable Energy Star LED Light Bulb Daylight (2-Pack) 1680 LUMENS, so there is 6 of them inside the softbox, that is 600 watt Equivalent LED blubs they last a long time i installed these 3 years ago and they are still working. now Impact Octacool makes a Impact Octacool-9 that allows you to put 9 of these bulbs in there, and what's great about them light bulbs is they don't get hot so you never have to worry about them over heating and causing a fire.. that Aperture light dome, I'm not sure how much brightness your getting from that, it says SL-60W so i assume the max light your getting is 60 watts, so probably no where near the brightness that my light gives out, which for video the more power you got the better you are off. And you can place them further away to get more wide spread light, more evenly as well, and yes it has a Defuser and you can take that off or take the softbox off completely and it's a beauty dish under it and gives you even more hard direct light if you need it.. not sure what you think.. just the 1 light and 1 softbox cost $149.95, I bought the kit that comes with 2 of these with 2 heavy Duty light stands, for only $409.80, back when i got them it was cheaper i paid around $300.00 ish for that but it has gone up sense 2020.. And i have a total of 4 of these lights with stand and i must say they are amazing.. i have a video out on this you can check it out, let me know what you think.. the video is called Impact Octocool 6 Continuous Light & Impact FF-0F4 Octa 4 Light Review Donny

@@KevinRossRN My room itself is big enough, but I'm not a pro youtuber, it's for ocasional shooting. And I know myself - I won't shoot video just because I need to setup the light every time from scratch :) So I'm looking for a permanent solution, to place it over the table, close to the wall, and forget. So that it wouldn't distract me every day between recording sessions. And it must work like this - turn the light on and start shooting without any extra hussle. I was thinking about thin LED panels too. But I found them a bit clumsy, and they actually do not save space enough to be a better solution. So I decided to stop with Amaran COB d60, as it's tiny enough and more universal with all of these modificators. All I need it's just to find a good modificator for it - to make the light soft (covering my face, chest and table) and save maximum space as well.
