Did AQA for the first time ever (I am an immigrant, fluent in English but not as a subject) after having been 'taught' it for around 4 months. Never once have I understood how that exam worked, and I hated it with passion; got a 3. Then I look at 2.0 for my resit (new school) in November and I knew I liked it better on first sight. Less than a month of studying, and with your AQA help and my new teachers, I scored an 8. I have you to thank for that, because you taught English more than anything.

Totally agree - I’m in Y11 now and doing AQA for English, French and sciences and almost all the questions are terribly worded with nonsensical mark schemes that require you to be so specific in how you set out a question without telling you how to set it out in the question - therefore it doesn’t really matter how much subject knowledge you actually have. I do Edexcel for Maths and History and find it so much more relaxing and enjoyable

I remember I hated a lot of the specifics mentioned here about AQA during my GCSES, to the point where for my year ten speech I made a half hour long piece on why I hated the AQA English Language GCSE haha. What you've shown here does seem to be a great improvement. Also as someone who was constantly told to make a plan for the big questions but never did, hearing you affirm my thoughts that it was a bad idea was very vindicating lol.

Im in my 30s and decided to do my GCSEs this year. My friend, an English tutor told me to do AQA because it was "easier". I unfortunately didn't have time to research the different boards as the time for me to purchase courses was running out. I live abroad and didn't know Wales actually used Edexcel. Oh well. We'll see how this goes.

I sat 2.0 when it was first sat in summer 2022, my school had switched to it whilst I was in year ten. My teachers had zero clue on how to actually answer the questions, top-level students under previous exam boards were struggling to scrape a pass! Furthermore, at this time there were no revision resources avaliable, as Edexcel's revision guide was yet to be finished. Therefore, us students were left to guess how to actually answer the questions, as neither the exam board nor our teachers were any help. I got a 7 in my English Language GCSE, and I am glad I never have to do it again.

I failed my English gcse aqa in the summer of 2018 with a 3 with 10 marks off a 4, I always found the question pretty confusing and remember I never did them properly (been years now so can’t remember what would’ve been a good answer, but yeah never liked the structure question). When I retook it at college in November of 2018 I discovered pretty quickly that they did edxcel, so I had to learn whole new exam board and so, in a matter of a few months I got an extremely high 4 (pretty sure if I remembered I would’ve just gotten a 5 if I did the paper in the summer). I found edxcel questions were easier to understand and I love how they gave you two options for section B on second paper on the creative writing bit (still remember doing absolutely horrible on aqa one as I hated the topic on sports and still find it interesting it’s been 5 years and still remember the horrors 😂😂). Can’t really remember everything as it been 5 years, but I so much prefer edxcel layout and I probably would’ve gotten a 5 or 6 if I had bit more time. Still I don’t regret it and was able to go to university so worked out well in the end.

you don't need to use the word 'inform' to inform a reader of the thing you are informing them of. you have been informed of your exam results and it doesn't use the word 'inform' at all. oh and you can have something that is both informative and interesting, although that can be in the mind of the reader. a two page essay can be both informative and interesting if the reader is also interested in the subject, no matter how interesting a writer makes an essay about TV soaps, I'm not going to be interested in it, nor am I likely to be informed by it either, because I am just not interested in TV soaps.
